Progressive would be allowing everyone to have their opinions as long as it doesn't hurt anyone or hold them back.

But he's mocking the fact that this character has nail polish, mocking their preference.

And the opinion that men shouldn't wear makeup is damaging towards the males who want to.

The opinion that men shouldn't wear makeup is very damaging towards the males who want to.

Uh....there is no means in the game to change your character's body, just the face. So IF there was an option to change whatever you wanted on your character's body, I would not have made this post. Hell, I see males walking around all the time with nail polish, I don't care.

The fact is since you cannot change anything on your character's body I thought it was strange seeing the nail polish. I also thought Bioware did it again, you know the whole poor hand design thing.

I understand *your* point. But *he* was implying that breaking down gender norms isn't progressive and all that stuff.

There's a big difference between removing gender norms and just making it not taboo to go against them. Eliminating them entirely seems counterproductive.

You can only change your character's face, there are no body options.

Ah damnit, guess we're stuck with little alien elf bodies then. I was hoping to be able to beef him up a bit.

How would it be 'counterproductive'? Counterproductive to what?

Also, making it not at all taboo to go against gender norms IS eliminating them.

1)  It could be snot. Maybe the character has really large nostrils;

2)  It could be some other shiny liquid. Ah maybe the character was considering future romance possibilities.

If all female characters are forced to walk like an exaggerated cartoon stripper then the male characters can deal with a little nail polish :P

And? He's allowed his opinion. He's not hurting anyone expressing it. As long as he doesn't stop men from wearing it, it doesn't matter what he thinks.

It's more that you have very diferent opinions about the meaning of the word progressive to most other people.

And language works on what most people think a word means so yeah.

Progressive is the kind of stuff that once gained is rarely taken away, as they are seen as progress. Things like women's right to vote, black rights, gay marriage etc.

Gender is the next frontier on that front. If a man wants to wear nail polish, there's no reason why that should be mocked.

If men wearing nail polish is considered "progress" then I again restate what I said earlier.  We have very different opinions of progress.  If you're comparing women's right to nail polish on men I pitty you.  Maybe you're taking this out of context?

Its not the act of wearing nail polish that is progress.  It is the change to society that would allow it without a bigoted response that would be progress.
