So if you are one of the lucky people who is getting DA:I very soon I thought I could just make this thread for you to just show your first impressions of it. This is primarily for people like me who won't get DA:I on release, for one reason or another, and would like to see what other people on BSN think of it, so please no spoilers. If you think something even might be a spoiler please put it in a spoiler tag and if it is clearly a proper spoiler relating to the story please just don't put it in your post at all, thank you.

Please note that this is for first impressions after the first few hours of gaming, not a full blown review after finishing the game.

So feel free to post your thoughts (after you've actually played the game, of course)  :)

After playing for one hour (i know i know) the only major complaint is that tactics camera is pretty...wonky imho.

Other than that, the if-else tactics system is close to non-existent, which is a bummer to say the least.

Cutscenes are locked to 30FPS which looks more like 25FPS >_>

It runs well (all maxed, r9 290, i5-2500K), it looks great (except the facial hair which is abysmal), combat is fun and "punchy", skills feel and sound powerful.

Isn't the cut scene at 30 fps a Bioware thing?

It does that in ME3 too.

Not sure, but here it just feels too choppy for my taste.

I've been playing for the last six or so hours, a lot of that spent wandering around the first area (trying to avoid doing too much at once). I have some minor complaints--mostly to do with controls--but I'm incredibly impressed so far. Perhaps the most surprising feature, for me, was being able to respond to companions when they talk to you during adventuring; someone spoke to me, asked me a question, and I was given a prompt to respond while we were out and about. How cool is that?!

I'm very happy so far. My only regret is that I did not get the collector's edition.

Its graphical marvellous.  Still mad at EA/Bioware the collector's edition was not availlable in my country.  For the rest to soon to tell and still learning all the comands, but those graphics ooooh.....

Only big complaint is the wonky tactical camera so far. Optimization could be better, but there's drivers and patches for that. The controls for the tactical camera are just bad however, with KB+M at least, and it's way too zoomed in. I only really use it to check vulnerabilities, which is a slick feature, and because there is no auto-attack in normal camera for some reason.

How does that work by the way? Does a dialogue wheel come up or something?

Yeah. The wheel comes up. Sometimes the numbers vanish tho.

This game has a ton of content. I'm so glad I didnt watch the twitch stream of the beginning. It was so suprising and very interesting!

I spent about 5 minuites sitting in the menu listening to the music.

When zombie Shepard was announced I laughed. After playing the DA2 demo I knew the game was going to be a letdown. Having played DA:I for 6 hours yesterday I smiled and said "Now this is a Bioware game". If you like RPGs buy the game. It's that simple.

But they deleted the manual stat upgrades at level up :( to me that's dumbing down the RPG mechanics.

Not saying it's going to be a bad game btw, but it's also not a 'true RPG', in my book. True RPG's let you handle everything, including the basic stats.

No way to let you handle everything.  No game has that option :P

I'm with you but sadly they don't make those games anymore. This is the next best thing.

The Tac camera sucks big time so combat is bad and so is the user interface. Also why no auto attack when you are out of the tac camera ???

Looks like another good game killed off by EA, just like C&C and sim city.

Nightmare mode is thus far unforgiving but fair. Battles are made unnecessarily even more difficult by my chars ignoring orders given in tac cam which I've had to use extensively. Tac cam itself has some annoying issues, like zooming in on your characters each time you select them. This means to give orders to your entire team you have to click one, drag camera to enemies, click next, drag camera to enemies... ect. The tac cam itself feels ackward and if you like swapping in and out (as opposed to just unpausing in tac cam and staying in that view) you have to resect your character, realign the camera (it doesn't quite do it for you) and then come out of tac cam.

There's also some crazy bugs. Had a tutorial thing stuck on my screen forever... persisted through reloading, computer restart, ect. I had to remake my character... in that new file Cassandra did not give me the starting set of health potion she was supposed to give you. Great.

Saying all that I've extremely enjoyed my time in the game and say it was worth the wait 100%. Far far from perfect, of course, and there are a lot of annoyances. For example I can already tell the crafting (the actual process of putting the collected crafting items together) is going to get incredibly tedious. There's a video explaining why, and having messed with it myself I agree wholeheartedly. But they're just that; annoyances. The core game itself is incredibly fun and I'm enjoying the story so far, which has a nice prelude feeling to it where all the little tiny pieces add up to form a real plot. I know a lot of reviewers said the start pretty much sucked story wise, but I've read slower books so maybe I'm unique in that regard. Besides, Suikoden V had one of the darn slowest starts in existence and remains one of my favorite stories in gaming.

Really? I thought they deleted it only for the companions, you cant decide for your character either? I was so hardly avoiding spoilers I did not dig into game mechanics either, but that' s a no like for me:(

I've only played less than an hour so I'm not sure how meaningful my comments will be. My biggest concern was how the game would run because I meet minimum specs for processor and gpu (Intel i7 2.4 and GTX 765M), recommended for everything else, and the game plays absolutely wonderfully so far. My graphics settings are on Automatic and almost everything is set to High. I'll probably tweak those, but seriously, it's running much more smoothly than I had anticipated, especially with an nVidia card.

I'm not worried about the game eating CPU cycles or displaying crap graphics. I'll get into it a bit later tonight and hopefully get some quality time in before work tomorrow.

Edited to add: I want a key binding for screenshots but I didn't find one. I guess it's just the Print Screen key?

..

What do you mean by this, exactly?  Can we not program tactics like we did in previous games?

For example, "4+ Enemies Clustered -> Cast Fireball"

We can still do things like that, right?

@Dr - Yes, the dialogue wheel pops up when a companion addresses you. If you're using a gamepad, you'll have to 'activate' the wheel to give it focus, but it'll pop up (grayed out) to let you know the option is there. Then you simply choose a dialogue option as normal.

@Ashes - You know how the companions would banter between themselves in Origins and 2? It's like that, only now you sometimes get to join in with your own input. It's quite an awesome addition.

My first impressions?  I'm having trouble getting through the tutorial level because the game is crashing so frequently. (edit: nevermind, I reinstalled my video driver, and the game seems stable now nope, it's crashing again)

I'm also pretty unhappy with the combat controls (PC).  For some reason, I can't seem to issue orders to anyone while paused unless I'm in tactical camera, so I'm having to pop in and out of that mode constantly.  Actually playing in tac cam mode is rather painful because the fixed top-down view means you can't see very far, and the camera is way too aggressive about snapping to your characters.  You can't just move the camera over an enemy and command two or three team members to attack it.  Every time you select a new character the camera will reset on you, and it all adds up to a huge hassle.  It also feels really, really awkward because the movement buttons now move the camera instead of your character, which is how Origins did it.

Ahh the dialogue while walking around is awesome. I often feel like the party is static when playing huge open world RPGs where you can spend hours just wandering and putting the story aside for a time.

The one I saw was when Varric pointed out that my (human mage) PC had a Free Marcher accent. I had three anwers to that, from ''wow, you're perceptive'' to ''no ****, genius''.
