So... my tally so far is:

Next gen console players: love it!
PC players: game looks gorgeous, but controls/camera/bugs are wonky
Current/last gen players: looks like it was made in 2007
All players: Main story doesn't exactly suck you in, but companions are great and quests/optional content is through the roof.

That about sum it up?

Good summary.  Pretty much it.

Is this an old consoles thing? Or a Qunari thing?

I had plenty of scar options when I was creating my elf, even on default models.

It's a last-gen console thing. I KNOW. I thought it was a bug at first. "Where's the scar option for my Qunari?"

I actually abandoned that character - a mighty good looking chap - so I could do some tests. I found that in all the CC's race options, there was NO scar option. Just tattoos when they allowed it. Crazy.

So yeah, no scars on PS3 and Xbox360. All in all the game is really not meant to be on those systems. I'm gonna have to save up to get a PS3 eventually so I can play this the way it was meant to be played.

Switching the camera mode back works, though I've heen enjoying finding a path back up. Reminds me of driving the Mako.

So is a minor issue then, good.

My only real complaint about the Tac Cam is that it doesn't follow the characters when they move. If you click to.move, you have to move the camera manually.

I'll probably get used to that.

BG's camera worked like this... except for the WASD movement.

From what I'm reading seems that the PC version didn't really take into account the existence of keyboard and mouse...

Also, you can't select a character by clicking on him. You have to use the portraits.
*snip*

This is going to annoy the hell out of me... Well, I will have to adapt.

Thanks for the info everyone!

After a rebind of keybinds, I don't have any control/camera issues on PC personally.

Like it so far. Its kind of a cross between your typical Bioware title, your typical TES title, and your typical Korean MMO. It works well but I want more bioware flare to it. I'm probably just not far along enough yet.

I agree KB+Mouse is a mess, I remapped but still it didn't feel right.

My solution take my 360 controller and plugged in to the PC, now I'm enjoying this game.

The game looks so goddamn gorgeous, I can't stop taking screenshots.

Is there a screenshot thread yet? There should be.

I initially thought, that the game is quite easy on Nightmare (compared to DA2).

I was wrong.

I'm level 3, and I've just tried clearing out a Rift with level 4 demons. I got my ass handed to me, several, several times.

Terror demon is just an absolute beast. The name fits its abilities perfectly. That guy will murder you. Horribly.

Hope that's not a spoiler.

I think I'll need better gear before trying that again...

I definitely disagree with the last part. Side content is woefully terrible, it's my biggest disappointment. It's all MMO style collect-a-thons and is 90% exploration focused. Very little sidequest dialog, cinematics, etc., and no real designed encounters or setpieces. It's all wandering around collecting things and killing randoms. It's really a bummer.

Well, I meant the QUANTITY is through the roof. I very much expected the quality to be fetch-quest grade or lower.

PS4 player here.

So far has been excellent. Only a single bug related to the keep, but was fixed by making a new character.

Combat is fun as hell and makes me feel like a badass. (Speaking as a mage only can't say anything about the other classes)

Love the crafting

Game looks gorgeous

Alright, just finished up two hours after a work day and have to split for dinner but a few quick impressions:

Pros:

Game runs pretty smoothly on my 660ti (my CPU is pretty killer for this game though) after downloading the driver. I get some minor, almost unnoticeable stutters in the cutscenes.

I have no major issue with the keyboard and mouse set-up. Honestly I have not used q or e except in the tac-cam. I just hold down right mouse and w and go anywhere.

Tac-cam seems fine to me so far. Issued orders that were followed and it allowed me to go anywhere. I'll see how much I really like it as I get into the hinterlands. Still in Haven at the moment trying to see everything.

Game is gorgeous and I really like the npcs and the convos already.

Cons:

The having to move to the loot thing is wonky and I do often end up attacking chests. I expect I'll get used to this though so it's not a major issue.

Hair is as awful as in any BioWare game. Since Origins they've been unable to do little more than make it look painted on. Beards looked so bloody awful I didn't even bother! But it's a minor annoyance. I did set the mesh to HIGH so that avoided the "lego look" others have mentioned.

Load times are ridiculous and I experienced one or two freezes while in them where a scene would start and then lock up. Seemed to resolve itself after a few seconds and it wasn't with each load. They've got to cut down the wait especially when the game boots up. I started to panic at the first black screen but patience is a virtue and I was so relieved when I finally saw the menu screen.

Pretty happy so far. Looks great and ran pretty smoothly! Can't wait to get back into it tomorrow! :)

Overall, my impressions are positive and I am quite pleased. However, it's not perfect.

On PC...

Love:

-Blown away by the environments and exploration. I never much enjoyed exploration in DA games (it was never very good or nonexistent) so this impresses me a lot. The vistas are stunning; even the dungeons are neat and fun to explore. The freedom is refreshing! This is my favorite thing so far.

-Graphics are [mostly] great; love the objects, armor, and environments.

-I really enjoy treasure hunting and finding secrets and hidden treasures.

-Characters, dialogue and voice acting

-Crafting and armor - the armor is gorgeous and I love the crafting, even if it's basic (a good thing, actually)

-Music, sound effects (GREAT job on sound effects! Very immersive.)

-Classes/talents. They seem pretty fun to me and the magic/attacks look cool and it feels like they're really hitting/connecting with enemies.

-Surprisingly no bugs yet, just optimization/crashing issues.

Hate:

-Controls

-UI (though I generally like it, there are some major annoyances). I would count looting (UGH) as part of this.

-Poor optimization - micro stuttering, crashes during dialogue, etc.

-Character creation. It seemed great at first... It would be better if you weren't limited to how your character can look due to the fact that most of the options look awful (facial hair and eyebrows, for example).

Not sure yet:

-Plot; can't tell if it's good or not. Seems questionable. I never liked the previous DA plots - I thought they were shallow and predictable but I loved the dialogue and characters, which this game did a good job of.

-Combat; still trying to get used to it. Not sure if I like it or not. Sometimes fun, sometimes frustrating. Don't like tactical.

I'm loving it so far! It's so shiny and beautiful. <3 Seriously, the graphics are to die for. They are amazing. I've only played about 2 hours so far, but I think I'm going to like this game quite a bit.

So far I'm having a bit of trouble getting used to the new combat system. There are so many new/different mechanics. I hate tactical camera. I turned the difficulty down to casual so hopefully I'll never really need to use tactical camera. I miss the old way of setting companion tactics.

I miss all the mage skill trees. Magic seems more limited than in past games.

I don't like NPC conversations that don't go into a full cut scene. I can't hear the NPCs all that well, but I don't want to have to crank up the volume and then get my ear drums blasted later by combat or an actual cutscene convo.

The war room and missions set up seems interesting, but I haven't really explored all of that yet. But I'm loving all the new tarot cards.

Bottom line = this game is very different from DA:O and DA2, and, for me at least, has a much steeper learning curve than the past games, but the graphics are beautiful, and the story seems very promising! Combat is fun, if a little odd at first.

ETA: Forgot to mention I feel the CC is clunky, facial hair and eyebrows look awful, the range of hairstyles is very limited, and looting really sucks. It's so annoying to loot now. :( Also, the UI is not so great. I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually, but right now much of the design of the UI irritates me.

A few non-spoilerish screenshots from the Hinterlands. PC, between High and Ultra settings (the best my current rig can do).

My overall first impressions are that somewhere in the development of this title, BioWare was making a really great game.

Then someone came in from EA and told them they needed to make it work on five different platforms.

And after everyone stopped laughing and realized they were serious, we ended up with this....a game that is trying very hard to be great, but is not quite reaching it due to some slightly frustrating technical issues, wonky combat controls, and generic MMOesque side questing that tastes like stale bread when its being served up by a game that has this much potential.

Overall...not the worst game ever made, has room to get better and if they patch out most of the minor technical problems and do something with the PC control schema that works...it might just be a solid 4 out of 5 star release, which, to be fair, isn't all that bad given the slump BioWare's been in since DA2.

Let me get this straight....

You get the main story and companion quests like you have in every game, and in addition to that you get optional side quests to boost your power that include story and fetch quests.... And you call this game an MMO?

Come now people... Please tell me you're joking.

Honestly most complaints I have seen are issues of inconvenience. Most solutions boil down to "get over it".

Its just because fetch this/kill that quests are a common MMO dynamic, obviously DA:I is not an MMO, its just that it feels like the side quest content missed an opportunity to be something better is all.

They exist for a reason. They're just fluff to encourage exploration and help you grow your inquisition.

You still have the main story quests..... You still have your story quests. You still have your companion quests..

Is the extra supposed to be a con now? Not every quest needs to have complete significance to the grand plot.

If you are roleplaying a good guy...it makes sense to help people.

If you are roleplaying a douche,,.skip them.

I didn't do the chantry quests as an atheist cousland or the mage quests as a pro-Templar or whatever.... I don't get how it's a con.

Here's my first impressions of Dragon Age: Inquisition:

For this I'm only doing one character at a time (I know some guys who insist on multi-tasking and playing multiple playthroughs at once). Normally, on a Dragon Age game, I'd do mages, but I figured this time around I'd try out something different, A Human Male Two-Handed Warrior. I play on High Difficulty and do not mess with the difficulty (except for under extreme circumstances). Assuming the time next to my Save is correct, I've got about 11 hours into the Campaign, which means the remaining 8 hours was spent on the Multiplayer. Normally in these types of games, I choose to primarily stick with the story line, allowing myself to do only a few side missions here and there, though for this game, I am just taking it as slow as possible. Spamming the "V" button everywhere I go, making sure no chest is left unchecked and no crafting mat is left to waste. So far I find the combat to be fluid, tactical combat system is a bit awkward to use on the PC but I'll live. Graphics are phenomenal, among the best I've seen this year.

One thing I had to learn real quick is that the zones are sort of divided up by level. Wandering off into a distant corner of the map usually results in fighting the highest level monsters that exist in that zone (level 6 players vs level 12 demons = not gonna end well). But this is good, better than the Elder Scrolls system of keeping everything at the same level as the player, as it allows the player to really feel the progression.

Crafting works well in this game, I've managed to create some armor and weapons for my team as upgrades, but assuming the trend remains consistent, the way this game seems to work is that each zone gets 1-2 tiers of crafting materials (with the higher level crafting material being scarce) and by the time you're about ready to move on, you'll only have schamatics for the lower level tier, making gear found through other means (vendor, killing, etc.) much more powerful.

Haven't gotten far yet into the companion conversations and karma system yet, but I bet it's pretty interesting.

Very fun so far. Though I find myself overwhelmed by the quantity of side quests at times. Which, I personally think is a good thing.

Fetch this/kill that quests are a common RPG dynamic, and have been since the days of PnP.....

Not saying that they couldn't be better, but it's hardly an MMO thing.

I kinda missed out on the whole pen and paper thing because I was too busy making out with people at parties at that stage of my life. Not saying there's anything wrong with pen and paper RPGs, just saying I missed my introductory period due to other social activities and...while I understand the concepts, I don't venerate them as some kind of pseudo-religious dogma in reference to PC and console gaming.
