Im wondering can you change your part at all in what they use. I really like Varric as a character but im playing as an Archer and it makes no sense gameplay wise to have 2 of them in your party can i make him use daggers or something.
Question about part memebrs are they locked to one weapon similar to da2?

There is no weapons lock on characters. They can use anything available to their class.

except varrick.. varrick is the one exception he can use daggers.. but the only bow he can use is bianca.

Thats good since in da2 it sucked some what since i played an archer and varric was one my fav's but it was harder to play the game with him since i usually play on hard or nightmware where you need a healer, tank and correct dps.

How do the abilites work? Is it similar to da2 will he have specail ones for arachery or is no penalty for him using daggers and he has all normal dual weld abilites.

he can use normal archery and dagger skills like any other character.. the only difference is he will not use any bow other than bianca (because thats his baby and he would never think of touching another ranged weapon)

You can spec him as using dual daggers, but be warned that it's either him or Sera that's locked into using the artificer specialization, which is all about traps, grenades, and crowd control, and the other is archer, which is exactly what it sounds like.
