Horrible performance issues

Right off the bat, I'm noticing horrible performance.  I can put on the lowest settings and still have the FPS dip down to low 20's in certain areas.  That is ridiculous.

cut scenes always seem to lock at around 25 to 30 fps, which to me is poor; it starts to look like a slide show.  This again is regardless of settings.

In MOST areas, with graphics set to low, I get around 50 to 60 fps, but it goes up and down so much.

My specs:

ASUS G750 JW

Intel i7-4700HQ CPU @2.40 GHZ (8 CUPs), Turbo @ 3.2 Ghz

Nvidia 765M 2GB

12 GB Ram

windows 8.1

I can play a lot of modern games with no problem... including Shadows of Mordor, Far cry 3, Battlefield 4, Rome 2, etc. But the way this is playing is depressing.  Please tell me there's day one patch coming.

You're telling me,

I had 780 and the game was running 40-60 frames which is pretty unacceptable for me on med-high settings and the cutscenes were stuttering like it was no one's business, I got really impatient and went out and bought a 980.

FPS increased over 60 most of the time but cut scenes looks like powerpoints stuck at 30 and looks like it's 10 fps or something. It's really horrible, why are the cut scenes so laggy?

the cut scenes were a mystery to me too.  Usually they run faster than in game.  In this case, it almost seems like cut scenes are automatically locked to 30 FPS with Vsync enabled, even though it's not.

I'm used to games having performance issues on first day releases, but this is really disappointing; even on low settings the FPS would dip too much.

Maybe I'll hold off playing for a few days? I still have another 3:45 before the game unlocks for me.

Cutscenes are locked at 30fps as confirmed by Bioware, but the suttering during cutscenes is obviously an issue.

Yep. This was confirmed several weeks ago, much to the annoyance of owners of high end PCs. At least Bioware didn't go full retard like Ubisoft and try to claim that 30fps was more cinematic.

There is currently no Nvidia driver for the game, and they still haven't pushed one for whatever reason at the moment. Don't blame this on BioWare until Nvidia steps up and holds up their end of the bargain.

I want to know where you live that you can just go out and buy a 980... there's not a single place near me that can be expected to carry a decent selection of GPUs anymore. :(

blaming NVidia because your game isn't optimized upon release is a huge no no.  Nvidia can offer drivers that help... this goes far beyond just not having optimized driver support.

Actually, by most accounts the performance lines up exactly with what you'd expect out of the box in a new game built with a focus on AMD/ATI's Mantle tech on an Nvidia card with no drivers. Also, I didn't say the performance was definitively Nvidia's fault, I said you can't lay the blame at their feet when Nvidia hasn't published drivers yet. There's no way to tell what is or isn't DICE's fault. (I'll not be laying the blame for performance at BioWare's feet anyways because they probably didn't handle any of the optimization on this game.)

I do however think NVIDIA cares more about FarCRY 4 than DA:I since farcry uses gameworks

I think the fluctuation is the problem.  If your framerate is locked at 30fps, you probably wouldn't notice an issue.

Now that Bioware is making  their games Bethesda games with stories, Bethesda-like disasters at launch are to be expected. The game is a hot mess right now but it'll be fixed. (Obviously the Bethesda thing is in jest)

I think they are already working on the issues. I tried to restart the game and it won't let me open it, telling me to update my drivers. They know there are problems.

Will it? DAO has dozens of bugs that Bioware never bothered to fix. It was left to the mod community to repair the things Bioware left broken. Pity there will be no mod community for this game to tidy up Bioware's messes. Bioware make beautiful games, but QA is their Achilles heel.
