Does anyone share my opinion that DA:I is extremely clunky? It feels like the whole game was developed with only console in mind and you can't do anything properly on PC. I can't bind any of my mouse buttons, I have to spam clicks to auto attack/hold down buttons.

I really can't stand the combat system it's so clunky and sluggish. DA:O had amazing combat, DA:2 kinda simplified the game but it increased the pace of the combat which was very nice.

But DA:I the combat is much slower (very slow animation for 2h weapons) it feels like playing 2H on DA:O which was so slow I had to dual wield in that game. The animation takes foreeeeeeeever and I have to spam click to attack, a lot of times I forget to even auto attack because I'm so tired of holding down my mouse button and clicking.

Opening items is even tedious, DA2 you just click on chest and Hawke would run over even if you miss click it's not an issue. Now you have to run next to it and hope you click on it properly or else you have to wait 5 seconds because your character is now swinging his sword and you have to sit through the animation. WHY???? Also I'm really used to holding down both of my mouse button to look around in DA:O and DA:2 now all that happens is I have to wait 5 seconds because I just attacked and my character is swing a sword which has a long animation.....

The menus are extremely weird and clunky as well. It has a lot of content it feels like DA:O but extremely unorganized and difficulty to sort though because it had DA:2 menus and you have to wait to mine ores or pick up elfroots... JESUS!!! You never had to watch your character squat for 5 seconds to pick up elfroot, what's the deal??

All in all, it has been extremely disappointing. Dragon Age Origins was probably my favourite RPG, Dragon Age 2 improved on some aspects (Speech, faster paced combat, pleasing art direction) DA:I feels like a step back in every department except maybe the graphics are extremely good, if you can run it........ (You can't since SLI isn't supported yet)

Absolutely. I played DA2 just prior to Inquisition and combat feels miles better there even with crappy camera angles. How they could make it worse and clunky is beyond me.

I also hate inventory system in DAI. Maybe on consoles it makes sense but on PC it is so confusing and just painful to scroll through crap to find what you need or whats best.

Yeah, movement and interacting with the environment feels very "off" on PC.

Nope, you have to manually click/hold mouse 1 if you want to auto attack

It feels like they have limited what you can do so you can't be more efficient than you would if you had a controller. The tactical map is very good example, you can't change the angles, you can't zoom, your camera is always stuck behind something (because it's just impossible to do all of that on a controller, so they won't let PC users do it either). You can't force PC users to play like they have a controller with a mouse and keyboard. It's all very frustrating.

This.  A million times this.

It's incredible how they even took a step backwards from DA2.  Horrible.  I sure hope the story is good.

I do find it a little clunky, I really just want to be able to move while holding both mouse buttons.

The net effect is that I get lazy and only use the tac cam for the most difficult fights. Score one for even less strategy. I'll probably run nightmare the next character I do (sometime way into the future). I imagine I'll go insane after putting up with this all the time  . I also hate that I have to click or click and hold to do basic attacks, especially since basic attacks are even more important this time round than in DA2.

Does PC seriously not have an auto-attack?

Yes. And this is really annoying, especially for controlling ranged classes. I made 2h warrior my main controlled char because its kind cool to click and smash huge hammer. For all other classes- booring click click click.

Bioware if you reading it, add autoattack!!

This game needs auto-attack. Having to hold down mouse1 to keep shooting arrows is really annoying. Also interacting with the environment is definitely clunky.

I thought it was just me.

The action view as a warrior is ridiculous as I hold down R, enemy gets knocked back, and now I'm swinging my sword into air with nothing there. Tactical view is what I prefer anyway, but man! Also, after the fight, if you right click on loot and you're 1 tile too far away from picking it up, rather than running to it you will swing your sword in the air. Like what the crap is that.

My issues with tactical so far (playing only through the 'tutorial'  with the pride demon:

- I can't zoom out far enough, so I can't see what's going on. There is no view that compares to DA:O

- My characters switch their commands if attacked, or sometimes at random, if the command is interact. This was especially hurtful in the pride demon fight as my main character decided to stop interrupting the rift several times in favor of autoattacking, while other companions refused to revive

- My manually positioned characters just move back after I switch to another. Varric felt melee range was just right for him.

The whole thing had an incredible clunky feeling to it and I couldn't help but wonder I was missing something. It felt borderline unplayable with mouse and keyboard, and I had to lower the difficulty to hard because I lost so much time repositioning constantly and reissueing the same orders again and again, while trying to find a camera angle that actually allowed me to click the Interact button on the rift, which was constantly out of view.

And another thread where it seems appropriate, so I'll drop it in.

Just use a 360 controller like the console peasant EA wants you to be. We're in the age of develop for console, port to pc when it's convenient/the deadline looms. Or, since you were required to buy it on Origin, take advantage of that refund and get it on a console, where there might be fewer bugs and it will actually work properly.

I just have to say, if I wanted to use a controller or play it on a console then I would have bought it on a console. I don't think being upset about pc the controls is unreasonable when you pay $60+ on a game for the pc. Some people just don't like controllers, and that's not a crime. Even if they don't do anything about it, at least we tried to bring it to their attention. That's better than doing nothing and expecting them to read our minds.

Does PC seriously not have an auto-attack?

It does IF you are in tactical mode which is very clunky and trees/foilage constantly get in the way.

If you are in direct control mode it does not have auto-attack.

This isn't just a PC vs Console thing...this is one of many very bad design flaws that makes navigating the world a real chore.

FYI, im not a PC fanboy...but it is definitely  not  in the age of development for console. I won't argue that there is a split among some developers but Bioware is traditionally PC, they should have focused more on making their fanbase happy:) Check the numbers in terms of PC sales for Games and Hardware...they meet or exceed consoles...in recent years and are projected to be the leader again in the near future. I would post links for proof but you could just google PC vs Console sales and find them easily enough yourself:)

I really don't think the combat works any better on consoles either.

I should be more specific. A lot of what happens to feel like a problem on the PC feels like a problem because it is a step back in functionality that we enjoyed in DA:O and DA2 because mouse and keyboard provided a lot of functionality you can't get from a controller. Bioware removed that extra functionality. From the perspective of anyone on console nothing has changed, but for those using a mouse+keyboard, a lot of functionality we took for granted is gone.

I am ... extremely disappointed with this game so far, solely because of the combat. All the things the above posters mentioned are keeping me from enjoying the game and even dreading combat. I might have to return the game if I can't get used to the clunky controls. I don't want to play with a controller. I bought an expensive PC for a reason: so I could play my favourite games with the precision of a mouse and keyboard and the latest and best technology.

No matter how great the story is, if the game play isn't good, there's just no incentive to keep playing. In my opinion the game lacks BASIC things that should be in any RPG, things I took for granted in every game I've ever played. Having to constantly press the mouse button down is burdensome. There needs to be auto-attack. Also, it would be nice if you could simply highlight loot with tab instead of having to bend your thumb back and hit CTRL. Awkward. The UI is also not optimized for PC and the tactical camera is also much clunkier than DAO. Hoping some of these things might be implemented as they should be. They are part of basic functionality of a game and a game is not worth 70 bucks if you can't even play it.
