Really enjoying the game other than the few bugs and crashes (no sarcasm).

I've seen several people talking about DirectX errors (and display driver crashes) but didn't see any screencaps of the actual errors posted and on the off-chance this message actually tells you something useful, I thought I'd share.

It's a bit of a snarky error message, eh?

Good luck!

I'm getting this exact error as soon as I hit Play on Origin. DAI won't even load.
I have a GTX 670

Got this error after messing around with the graphics settings and restarting. Now I get the error every time I start the game. Tried deleting the DirectX folder and repairing the game with no luck.

I managed to get the game to load by going into my NVidia settings and in 3D Settings>Adjust Image Settings With Preview and changing it to "Let the 3D Application Decide"

We'll see how stable that is in a couple of hours.

Didn't work for me. Also tried deleting the Configurations and Levels folder and repairing, didn't work. So deleted the Configurations files, thinking that maybe it'd just auto config once I started, also didn't work. So I'm repairing the game again.

I might have fixed it, if you're having the same issue where you changed some settings and the game took a dump:

forum.bioware.com/topic/520264-directx-issue-fixed/

Screw it, I'll just quote myself:

I found the (or just a potential) fix to it.
1. The default save location for a lot of Bioware graphical settings is in My Documents, so for me I had to go: C:\Users\Micah\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age Inquisition\Save

2. There are two files, open ProfileOptions_profile as a text file.

3. This sucks as apparently when typing this out, no one thought to hit enter, but read through all the settings and if there is something that is greater than 1, change it to 1, and this will reset all your graphics to the lowest setting.

4. Get in game (Yay), reset everything to their defaults (yay), restart, go nuts with your Lesbian Qunari Rogue or whatever the hell you're doing.

If this doesn't work... then crap. This is how I got it to run for me.

Thanks for sharing, clopin.

I'm not having consistent issues, so I can't test it, but I'll pass it along to some people.

@Bioware:

I'm willing to share additional system specs or whatever if that will help in diagnosing/resolving the issue.

I have been getting this exact message.  Updated the graphics driver that Nvidia just put out and issue persists.  Followed instructions from a different Dragon Age thread to make some changes and issue persists.  At this point im going to wait a few hours and if they don't fix the issue ill just ask for a refund and play Middle Earth until they fix it.

Try installing Update 4 for Visual Studio 2012:  http://www.microsoft...s.aspx?id=30679

Just a good 101 for computer maintenance (maybe a bit advanced)

  • Install a free macrium reflect and make a image of your current installation in case something goes wrong http://www.macrium.c...eflectfree.aspx, also a recovery usb drive
  • ran cleanmgr on start menu and delete all temporaries. you may try CCleaner too https://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER
  • (optional) iolo system mechanic free may repair registry, temporaries , etc... is all in one tool. After a fresh install of windows 8 it finds many errors on registry, is a good tool
  • Unistall drivers: vga, audio, chipset (carefaul with this one), download most recent ones from manufacturer site, install and restart
  • Download most recent directx and install and restart

If all that does not solve, might be a corrupted profile, there are links on youtube step by step on the procedures

last case, reinstall windows completely if you have that option

Please don't do any of this. This is the most over-the-top solution I have ever seen. Chipset drivers? Seriously?

Why don't I just reflash my motherboard firmware and reinstall windows while I'm at it too?

I hope you're just an extremely bored and bad troll. Contrarily...

^^This is simple and sensible advice, and should work based on my past experience. I will give this a try when I get home from work.

Chipset drivers...ffs.

I'm just very cautious covering all the basics and you don't have to do everything, try one thing at a time.
