Tried a few different things, repairing the install, making sure my drivers are up to date, shutting down every application except for DA:I and Origin...it always freezes about 5-10 seconds on this title screen. I have a quad core and nvidia.

Rebooting seemed to give it some juice and it lasted 20 seconds this time. Long enough to get a glimpse at the Options menu.

I have a quad core and AMD card and it was doing this as well. I managed to get it past that point and put the graphics settings all on the lowest, and the game is still refusing to work. When I first started it up, it had all my settings on medium-high, so I know my computer is supposed to be good enough to handle it. There is something seriously wrong if it's refusing to work properly even on the lowest settings.

Update: I unplugged all extraneous devices (my logitech headset and iphone) from my computer and now it is not freezing.

Edit: Got an hour in (good times!) and decided to retest this theory. It is now still freezing at the menu even with extraneous devices unplugged. Maybe I got lucky once.

This has been happening to me too.

I just kill the process in task manager and then relaunch the game.  Looks like a bug when it attempts to reach the Dragon Age Servers, which is usualy the spot I see mine hang.  If I get to load a game or start a new one, it seems to work afterward, I have not experienced any freezes while in game.

This is what I'm running it on:

Core i5 2500K OC'd to 4.3GHz

8GB RAM

GTX 590

Hope this gets patched/addressed soon!

I'm able to set most settings to Ultra except MSAA and get 60fps in game.  Cutscenes are locked in at 30fps it looks like.

This is happening to me as well. I also got lucky once, after I repaired the game via Origin for the the first time. Managed to play about 10 minutes (basically only browsed the Multiplayer part) then the game froze again.

So far I've been trying to play this game for 4 hours and barely got past the title screen.
I also have several devices plugged in, will try unplugging them but even if it works, this is not the way it is supposed to be. This issue must the addressed asap.

I've tried unplugging my mobile and microphone. The game froze at the very second the title screen showed up. This is not good.

Same here. I'm not even getting a loading screen now. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. Shouldn't have to unplug everything to make it work.

Nvidia just released a driver specifically for this game early this morning. 344.75 I believe. I installed it and I was able to create my character and begin the game. At that point I turned up all the graphics and restarted.  back to square one. I get the freeze at the splash screen again....

Is there any word when this glitch will be addressed?  Its really frustrating only getting to log in once every 40 attempts

I would like to see if this works for anyone else. Play the game in offline mode (I just disable my network adapter in control panel). The game starts up, I click, it gets past the connection and never freezes. Runs perfectly, but I can't get to my world state...

This worked! Disabling my network adapter seems to not freeze the game. Not the ideal solution, but at least it's playable and gives an idea of the root cause for the devs.

Update: I turned off my firewall and it still froze. Seems the network adapter is the culprit?

Update 2: I spoke too soon. I tried it again with network adapter disabled and it froze on the title screen. This just seems to be a roll of the dice if it freezes or not.

Yea, I found later that I froze offline. Adding exceptions to both my anti-virus and firewall allowed me to start my game, find the graphics were too high, tweak, restart, find the character too ugly, restart... freeze. Now I just freeze again.

Tease of a game.

Same problem, GTX 670x2 in SLI and quad core i5 3570K. Tried running as admin, Tried all of the above, monitored my hardware and it doesn't appear that any is over stressed. all other (200+) games work perfect. does not seem to freeze in game once i make it in.

It's not video driver related.

The freeze is random. Sometimes right away, sometimes 30 seconds.

In order to play restart until it gives you time to New game or Continue.

Can take 15+ restarts before it lets you.

Nothing I have tried helps and I tried a lot!

I rarely encounter techinical problems with my games. Glad I'm not alone.

I agree this is not a corrupt video driver. Maybe a poorly written one. Im on the new 344.xx that was released for DA and other new titles. Problem was before and after the new driver was installed

I created a post on the EA help forum for DA:I, help give it exposure if I described this correctly:

I will try clicking continue as fast as I can tonight when I get time.

Thanks paraLogic.

I will try clicking continue as fast as I can tonight when I get time.

This seems to be the trick. I tried it a few times, clicking as fast as possible on Continue once it shows up, and I was able to play without it freezing. For kicks I exited back to the title screen and it froze after 10 seconds per normal.

Had this issue a lot before. Especially when it's trying to connect to the server or slightly after. I put the whole DA:I folder in my antivirus exception list and so far no more freezing at main menu. Dunno if it will work for you though, but it did for me.

Most likely it was just one of the times you were able to get in without freezing right away. I have no anti-virus, so that's not it for me at least.

I noticed in quite a few threads that a lot of users are having the black screen, menu freezing but they were using Win 8 some have tried using the duel boot an using Win 7 some said it fixed their issues an then complained because they couldn't use Win 8. Also I saw some had disabled the Turbo with their Intel processors and the game seems to run fine without issues.

just throwing some ideas out their from other threads I've read.

A user from the EA help suggested this as a possible work around:

As soon as the game starts, open the Taskmanager, search the "dragonageinquisition.exe", right click it, search "Set Affinity" and disable one or more cores. When you are in the game, do the same to enable all cores back again.

This is not black screen issue that is so popular. This is different

Seems disabling a core is reported to work via task manager (and re-enabling after you load game), going to try myself when I'm able.
