Got this when I tried to save settings.

http://cloud-4.steam...3813EE00A9E846/

Hard drive is definitely not full, and works just fine. The "My Documents" folder is on my D: drive, but when I remove the old Bioware folder and start Inquisition, it creates a new folder with a Dragon Age Inquisition folder inside, so the game clearly knows where to save. It just doesn't create a save file.

Looks like my issue had to do with my computer not seeing it's redirected my documents folder and setting it offline.  I resolved that issue and the save problem has not resurfaced.  Good Luck!

I have the same problem, and redirected my documents folder as well. How did you resolve the issue with your computer seeing the redirect?

How did you find out what to do? Can you explain what it was precisely?

Changing my "My Documents" folder back to the C: drive did fix the problem for me, at least I think that's what did it. Since that entire folder is basically just for savegames it wasn't a big deal to change it.

What I found was that while playing my network drives would go into offline mode and would not be usable. If I kept trying to re sync them they would come online eventually and allow me to save. Then they would go back offline. I'm thinking some sort of anti-cheating mechanism is blocking network drive access

I tried redirecting My Documents to C:\, the default location, still having the same problem. I have the game installed on a different drive, so I tried setting My Documents to the same drive as where the installation is, but also no luck.

How'd you guys set your My Documents back? I wonder if you're doing it a different way than I am (I set the location in the Libraries/Documents properties in Explorer).

I had this same problem runnning windows 7 64-bit and using an SSD/HDD. I found that even when you change the rederection within explorer/control panel it might not be changed within the registry. Therefore, you might have to manually change it using Run>regedit and navigating to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders322756

Then you have to change the "personal" tab to refer to its original state, whatever that was. It should be the same as the other entries e.g. %USERPROFILE%\Documents.

This worked for me, and has been a problem for multiple games that try to find default my docs locations. If you continue to have problems there is another entry in

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders that refers to documents, but frankly I don't know what it does and you might be better off googling how to redirect your folders.

It looks like the culprit for me was offline files were enabled for my documents.  I went to Control Panel > Sync Center > Manage Offline Files, Then clicked on disable offline files.  I had to reboot, but since then I have not had a problem with saves.

I would not think it mattered if I was using this feature or not, but it seems like DAI caused them to go offline.

Thanks, guys. I had to go the extreme route of redirecting the Documents path in Explorer like how I mentioned above including deleting any link to other documents paths aside from the folder, doing the registry changes like sleepofthejust posted, and run the attrib command for Documents in step 26 at this website: http://www.sevenforu...t-location.html

Sounds a bit extreme but it's finally what got it working. Why did Bio hardcode the save management like that? Over five hours of tinkering and making changes to my documents setup just to be able to play.

P.S. Thanks again for taking the time to post -- I appreciate all the help.

Second time finding a fix after changing my Documents on NAS by accident. You can have your documents folder moved to any network path, just make sure you use the URL of the path. NOT the FOLDER path:

DONT USE ex: (windows 8.1)

M:\3.BACKUP\Game saves\Documents

USE:

\\PANDORAS_BOX\Pandoras Box\3.BACKUP\Game saves\Documents

Step 1:

Disable offline files. Why? If your documents folder is massive or you simply dont want windows moving files BACK to your computer.

If disabled skip to step 2.

To disable:

>Press windows key

>Type "sync" and press enter

>Click "manage offline files"

>Click "disable"

> If popup mentions rebooting then reboot.

Step 2:

Find url link

To get the url link:

>Head to Computer

> Right click on white space, then click "add a network location"

> Navigate to your NAS or remote server where documents is at then click

> The url link will auto fill the box, copy it.

Step 3.

Change the path in documents location usin the url link:

>Go to your login name folder

>Right Click the documents folder (NOT the library document folder)

>Tab over to location

>Paste url link from step 2 in box

>Click Ok or Apply to finish

NOTE: If your documents folder is already moved then click NO when asked to move folder.

NOTE2: Windows should update the registry after this point. Step 4 is optional, but if the game encounters the save error still then proceed to step 4.

Step 4.

Check the registry pathing to documents folder.

>Press windows key

>Type regedit

> navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

>Look for Personal (Windows 8/8.1) or My Documents (Windows 7)? To make sure you have the right folder just look for “documents” in the pathing area. If the path is in a URL form already then you have an issue I have not encountered. If not change the path to the URL link from step 2.

Hope this works!

Just out of curiosity, are you hitting the 250 save mark? I saw a while back some people had found that Inquisition wouldn't let them have more than 250 saves - across all characters. Whether that's something to do with the capacity the cloud storage has, or something else, I don't know. But I hope your issues gets fixed soon if it's something else :/

This should work for most people:

Dragon Age Inquisition saves games in C:\Users\ArtfulDodger85\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age Inquisition, (substitute ArtfulDodger85 for your user name, also may be different for other versions of windows).  So here's a list of things to look into:

1.  Rule out the obvious -- Make sure your hard drive has enough space that you installed the game on

2.  Is the Documents folder, or any portion of it hidden? (this was my problem)

  • If unsure, hit windows key and start typing to search for "Folder Options" and under view, select show hidden files
  • Right click on Documents, select properties, and make sure "Hidden" and "Read-Only" are not selected
  • Do the same for the BioWare and its subfolders

3. Is there anything that affects your documents folder?  I.e. networks, permissions

If the game can't write to a file in that folder (i.e. if it is read-only), or if it can't even read from it for permission reasons, then it won't be able to save or possibly even load games, and none of that is BioWare/EA's fault.

I'd also like to add that this game is amazing :)

I just "upgraded" from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and am now experiencing this issue after the "upgrade. Mine is a bit more wonky though. My entire DAI folder has gone missing from my documents since the upgrade, and a search of my entire system shows the folder is nowhere to be found. I tried recreating the DAI folder and sub folders under C:\Users\xname\Documents\BioWare ( created C:\Users\xname\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age Inquisition\Saves ) and that did not resolve the issue. I ran a "repair game files command from Origin and that did not resolve the issue.

The game is loading up with my last save game, so the data is saved somewhere, but I'll be damned if I can find it to remap it. Any ideas?

P.S. I've had nothing but problems since the upgrade and would most ardently recommend NOT upgrading to Win 10 at this time. It seems they pretty much rolled a beta out to us all and expect us to be beta testers and work out the bugs, at the expense of our data and sanity!

Baroo5, I try to explain in my poor English and as a noob in software: I go to the specific map with my save games. Right click on it and choose "properties". Then to the tab "share". There click on one of the buttons (forget wich one) and select for home users "read and write" (default with me was read only). Should not be nessecery if you ask me, since only the user should be selected, but what do I know. It helped me. Hope it helps you.

Navigate to Documents folder (assuming your bioware folder is in there), right click Documents folder, select Share With> Specific Users...  and set HomeUsers permission level to Read/Write.

Nice, simple and sorted. Thanks Athena :)
