The first thing I noticed playing Dragon Age Inquisition is that you can't use your D-Pad to move around in the menus.  That may just be a nit picky thing, but for me I have always always used my D-pad for menus in any games.  The fact that it is all of a sudden not there is quite bothersome.  I feel weird using my analogs for anything other than movement and cameras (maybe a few gameplay mechanics you need for the game).  But completely no D-Pad support in menus seems like a weird and lazy design flaw.

I totally agree!

The most astounding thing is that they have previously done it right two times with DA:O and DA2!!!

What were they thinking? Did they even try the menus on console?

Seriously!

Agreed. If I persist with the mess that is DA:I on 360, then navigation for menus via d-pad needs to be implemented. I assume it's a simple oversight that'll be patched in.

This really irks me. After playing the first 20+ hours with mouse & keyboard. I decided to try my 360 controller after hearing that it was better. Only to discover I could not use the d pad to navigate menus. This was poor design by Bioware  and needs to be fixed, please.

Bah, oh well...you do get used to it though.

Still, I wish we could at least use the dpad for the start menu, I keep instinctively going to use the dpad for that lol.

Wow, my respect for BioWare as core mechanic and systems designers is just plummeting with this game. Consistency is why we can't even use d-pad for the frontend or in options menus? Do they think people are too stupid to remember which menu they have opened? 'Duh, why can't I switch between my characters!? Who cares if I'm looking at the sound options I thought d-pad meant I could switch characters!'...

I'm pretty certain I could go through my entire collection on 360, and be able to use d-pad throughout the menus on every single one. It's surely just standard practise - part of the culture of design for gamepads. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, BioWare. So many other RPG's can get by with d-pad controlling the cursor/select, why can't yours?

simple up/down/left/right menus should always be D-PAD it's just more intuitive, faster, and less thumb strain. I have fibromyalgia and tendonitis, it actually hurts going through menus like inventory and such because of the repetitive strain. speaking of that, keybindings are suspiciously missing... and there's seemingly no autorun for gamepad, only keyboard.
