I have waited since the pre-load began thinking that this would find some sort of resolution, but it has not.  I have sent bug reports and I even sat with EA customer support for hours only for them to lose me and stick me back into an hour long queue.

I am unable to install Dragon Age: Inquisition. The game is downloaded fine and all files appear to be in working condition, with the exception of C++2008.  My computer flat out refuses to install this file and without it, the game refuses to finish installation.

When using the Origin My Games page to try and install I get the error '(1603) VC++ runtime distributable package was not installed successfully. Setup cannot continue.'  This occurs at 27% of installation.

If I physically go into the files and find the vc exe and attempt to install I get error '907 Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.'

Now, I have tried many methods to fix this problem. I have uninstalled problematic windows updates (I'm using Windows 7 by the way, which apparently seems to be a massive problem with this particular file.)  I have tried making an entirely new user profile with full administrative privileges and making sure that nothing is running.  I've tried a clean boot.  I've tried registry cleaners.  I've tried mixing and matching uninstalling and reinstalling windows updates, I have removed all other C++2008 updates and software from my computer entirely.  I tried downloading the file directly from microsoft and replacing it into the Dragon Age file.  I attempted to trick it into using a different C++.  I tried deleting the thing all together.  I have tried reparing the game.  I've tried reparing the file.  I have restarted my computer more times in the past few days than I can count.

Absolutely none of these things has yeilded any sort of result.

The EA customer support had me disable all firewalls and virus protection and try again. Nothing. Then they had me clear the Origins cache by manually going in and deleting all the files from my user profiles in the app and appdata hidden files.  They also had me clear cache and cookies from all my browsers and run yet another registry check.  This also amounted to nada.

I know for a -fact- I am not the only person having this problem, as I have seen others asking about it online. However, what I do not see is any sort of fix.  I still remain unable to install the game because my computer just -will not- install C++2008 or any versions of it.  I can install other things just fine.  I manually installed C++2010 and 12 out of the vc folders without a hitch.  I can even double click the Inquisition icon within the DA folder and it attempts to load.  Of course, this ultimately brings me back to the Origin set-up and I'm back to the where I began.

Please, please PLEASE tell me that someone out there has found a way around whatever is causing C++2008 to not install upon Windows 7 machines.

Still can't install the game.

I am at my wits end of what to do.

I have two very unpleasant options left to me at this point.  I could possibly go out and buy a physical copy of the game and try to install it from disc (which still may not work) then ask for my money back from the digital copy that I bought.  This really does not please me as I will lose all the extras I got for buying direct and getting the Collector's Edition (of course part of that was the pre-load which -never- worked for me).

If it still does not work then I will be forced to return both copies which really really does not make me very happy.  I am a huge fan of DA and was looking forward to playing.  However, since I can't play it...I just don't know whatelse to do.  I've been trying to get help with this since the pre-load began and I'm wondering if it might be a lost cause. :\

So this took a while, but for people still having problems with this, I found a very tedious way to solve it.

Uninstall all Windows Updates from November 2014.  I have no idea what the problematic one was, but this did the trick.  Make sure that KB2918614 and KB3000988 are both uninstalled and then go through and start removing everything that was added to your computer in November.  Mine updated on 11/12/14 and I uninstalled all of those updates and then restarted my computer.  I then went into the DA vs folder and double clicked the C++2008 installer and BAM!  Installed in seconds.  Once it was done I went to the Origins Games Launcher and voila...took about 3 seconds to complete the installation of DA:I.

I hope my journey saves someone else some time and frustration.

Just a note: for those who have Windows 8 it appears that uninstalling KB2918614 and KB3000988 is enough.  However, if you're like me and you like having gaming computers built with Windows 7, then the above is the way to fix it.

Sweet mother of pearl!!!

You have just saved me so much headache and money (I was ready to do the unthinkable and upgrade to Win 8.1).

I uninstalled everything back to the beginning of October and it worked for me.  I've been working on this for about 2 weeks with no results and hours on the phone with support.

Seriously, tell me what kind of cake you like, because I'm baking you a dozen!
