Having a really odd sound issue.  The characterer voices are barely audible - sounds like they are in the back of a cave.  This only happens in cut scenes.  This  is only voices - the ambient sound is fine.

Very odd.  Anyone else having this issue?

I'm having this same problem. All the characters have muted voices during cut scenes. The voices are fine outside of cut scenes, with the exception of the Inquisitor, who's voice is permanently muted, from character creator to cut scenes to when I'm in free roam. Please help. My drivers are updated and I've played with all the audio options available in game.

im having the same issue, its almost like the voices are coming from very far off, and they are extremely low in sound. I haven't even got out of the cut scenes so idk if they work while playing. im trying to fix this bug before I play

I powered through the cut scenes and the prologue with the problem. Problem persists through out. Were you able to hear the Inquisitor's voice in character creation?

nope, well I can hear it slightly but its distorted. I played about 2 hours of the game, sometimes I heard voices and sometimes I didn't hear anything. im curious if it got glitched while it was downloading. I might try to reinstall it to see if that helps

I have the same issue...it doesn't help that the character animations seem to completely stop and they just stand their with stupid grins or expressions on their faces while talking (not that anything can be heard...). Hopefully this is one of the first things they will fix since it's early in the prologue and this is kinda an important part of the game (being able to hear the characters). The voice pack didn't do crap either.

Also having this issue. Primary complaint so far other than some minor stuttering during cutscenes. Though I expect graphical nonsense in the first couple weeks of any PC release. I wasn't expecting this audio stuff though.

I'm having this same problem no voices in any cut scenes I'm on a ps4 I've already seen YouTube videos of people playing with voices working fine(not sure what system they were on though? ) I could use the subtitles but I feel like you lose the full effect of the story and I didn't pay all that $ to read the game :( bioware please fix asap!

Well - this is frustrating - but it is a relief that I am not the only one dealing with the issue.

My issue is there right from the character creation screen.

I have been trying everything. I just updated my nvidia driver and plan to create a new character. One of the supposed fixes is to make sure your audio/sound card is switched to stereo mode however I can't seem to get that to work.

Same problem for me. Have a 5.1 setup and only to get voice echo through back speakers. Happens even in MP.

I'm using headphones and noticed that the sound didn't seem as stereo as I was used to. I found a setting to switch the sound from "speakers" to "headphones " and it seemed to improve. I'm not at my computer right now so I can't be more specific.

I've tried playing mainly male human and male elf and the game works perfectly fine until you close the first Rift. This is right where you are introduced to Solas and Varric and after playing an hour or two after the issue does not fix itself out of the "prologue" area.

The problem I'm having is that as soon as my Inquisitor asks the question "What did you do?" everything begins to get a bit wonky. First the characters no longer speak in cutscenes/dialogue moments (outside of this they do though which is odd) and it's not just one character but all of them. To make matters worse if it were just a simple issue of reading I could have managed to struggle through it but the character seem to freeze up and while the subtitle is completely out of context with their lip movements it's hard to really say what's at fault when the mouths of the characters or facial expressions do not actually change and they are frozen in cutscenes with stupid creepy grins. Sometimes it seems to loop as well a character is standing in one spot and then they teleport back to that location.

I recently updated my Nvidia driver (have a GeForce GTX 660 so that's not the issue. My sound card does not seem to be the issue either (I'm using headphones but it didn't work doing it the other way either). I have a windows 8 computer if that could cause any problems. I've tried changing every setting imaginable in game to no avail. I've tried restarting my character but the problem persists (although I've only tried the first male voice thus far and plan to experiment further to see if it might just be the gender or the voice that causes the problem...not sure how that would cause issues with the other characters not speaking though. I'm playing an archer rogue if that has anything to do with anything as well.

I've tried a lot of different things so if anyone has any idea of way to possibly fix this issue let me know. I've tried high to low for graphics settings to no avail as well.

I suddenly had this problem during a random cutscene in the prologue. It had been working fine through then and then...no sound. I went into the "audio" options, switched on subtitles and messed with the volume sliders and it's fixed now! Not sure why, or if it will cut out again, but that might work for some.

Gonna add to this I just tried it with a new character and now it seems to start right after the very beginning after being led outside for the first time...voices just disappear and movement and animations go weird. My Inquisitor even disappeared briefly at the very beginning and it wasn't until being given actual control that the sound came back to the characters...but whenever entering a dialogue or cutscene it just stops. I've tried both male voices as a human and have tried dual wield and archer thus far if it continues happening with other races and genders I'll continue to update about the issue.

I'll try messing around with the audio options what exactly did you do?  I'm on PC mind you and am having this problem. Nothing I do seems to fix it.

I tried it with an elf female besides the other ones and had the same issue it begins right as the scene changes in the beginning to cassandra walking on the bridge and telling the inquisitor that the people look for a guilty party or something. It has happened with every race, class, voice, and gender in multiple combinations and I have no idea what the problem is. I've tried repairing the game to no avail either.

I'm playing a female Dalish on Xbox One, so results may vary. The voices and animations went out when I skipped through a cutscene. All I did was open up audio, switch on subtitles, lower the volume for sound effects, close, open, and raise the volume back up. Fixed the problem for me.

My issue is there right from the character creation screen.

That's what I had. But I fixed it by changing my PC's sound settings. I think Inquisition was trying to use 5.1 sound, but I don't have that many speakers, and the voices were being sent to non-existent speakers.

I had my PC set to 5.1 so that I could use my subwoofer (I have 2.1), and there wasn't an option available between 5.1 and just stereo.

I changed it back, and the sound works fine (it even uses my subwoofer - I just can't adjust it independently now).

Yeah the only fix I've found so far is to force your sound device to use Stereo instead of 5.1 or any surround sound you may have it setup to do. Assuming this can be patched and fixed, but for now Stereo is the only option.
