The current companion AI customization is really a piece of crap. Like 5 options and I can't tell Varric to Long shot ranged enemies or tell a mage to attack clumps of enemies with AoE? I really feel like the combat in this game is now **** if you don't want a watered-down action experience (skyrim's combat was/is better on the action end and the tactical aspect of DA now sucks). If I am missing something on how to deeply customize companion AI as in past DA games, please let me know. Nothing would make me happier than to be able to actually create deep and customized party tactics.

sadly it is as it looks. They have stripped everything meaningful when it comes to tactics.. and the PC tac cam sucks as are the controls..

I agree on the tac cam, but have found it really helps to change A and D to move camera (left & right) instead of turn camera. Using this while holding RMB  to turn and zoom allows you to actually feel like you can move the camera where you want it some of the time.dont ever hit shift and pan the camera.

Or just use a 360 controller like the console peasant EA wants you to be. We're in the age of develop for console, port to pc when it's convenient/the deadline looms. or, since you were required to buy it on Origin, take advantage of that refund and get it on a console, where there might be fewer bugs and it will actually work properly.

Completely agree.  The tactics were the reason I kept coming back to Origins and DA2.  I loved pre-planning every aspect of my character's combat behavior and then watching it play out in real time.  I don't want to pause and micro-manage every step. I like controlling a single character and then having everyone else work on *my* script.

Yes it's changed but you can still kick ass. The trick it to spam BARRIER and have your tanks set up with GUARD. That effectively gives you "extra" health.

 

I also expected a better AI using a custom TAC list....

I do indeed, because it's the most apt. Every issue presented thus far is resolved by that statement. Use console controller, resolve PC control scheme issues flawlessly. Not saying it's right, just saying it's true.
