Well, I'm afraid I have to add to the many problems I am seeing here. My copy was the Origin PC Deluxe Edition (if that helps).

PC specs:

Win 8.1

AMD Elite Quad-core 2.0ghz (.5 lower than the min requirement, big deal?)

4 GB of RAM

AMD Radeon HD 8550G graphics with up to 2158mb of video memory

So when I boot up and get into the main menu, everything is working fine. I get into the character creator and proceed to create my character, still fine. Thinking nothing of it, I proceed into the game only to be highly confused. The opening little cutscene where you reach out to that green-ghost looking thingy plays and I see myself fall to the ground afterwards with the soldiers running to me and everything. However, when that finishes. I just spawn into a random area. I have no idea where I am at (the map telling me I am in Frostback Mountains). Assuming it was part of the game, I walk around. And walk. And walk. Nothing. Take a peep into my journal, nothing showing. All I see are rocks and mountains around me (can't even walk towards them). I have no idea what I am supposed to be doing. I have no quest marker leading the way, nothing. So, conflicted with myself, I take a look at the prologue on youtube and I find out that after the little soldiers surrounding me part, I was supposed to wake up to a cutscene in a dungeon with Cassandra and Leliana. However, I can never get to that part. I've restarted game and laptop multiple times, created multiple characters, and tried other things. This keeps happening, leaving me bewildered that I can't even GET INTO THE GAME YET!!

Anyone else experience this?

It might be worth repairing your install if you haven't tried it already. Just right click on your game in origin and select "Repair Game".

I may give that a try. I have been sitting here for 2 hours now reloading and remaking a character hoping it was a glitch. I am soooooo disappointed.

Thanks for the suggestion, btw, MasterPrudent. Hopefully this helps, as I am still on hold with teh Live Chat help. I imagine they're swarmed with people reporting stuff like this and other weird glitches.

I am suffering from the same problem and I have more than enough to run the game... I am also getting horrible FPS drops in benchmark even on medium settings.  lol...

The same thing is happening to me! :( I've tried making two characters and am afraid to make a third as I spent most of the past hours just maiking the characters.

I had this same problem earlier! I ended up in a last ditch effort going back to the Keep, and editing my world state, changed my Hawke to a more recent playthough, and now I can actually play instead of being stuck in that area. Not sure if its a fix or just a coincidence, but try editing your world states with the Keep!

Maybe the file's corrupted when downloaded? Mine is on PC (Deluxe edition too) and it works fine.

I have this problem too, but I found a workaround I think. Launch the game through a desktop shortcut and NOT the icon in Origin. I hope this helps you guys out.

Edit/Update: Using the 60fps in cutscenes trick seems to break the desktop launcher in the same way. Remove that if you added it and see if it helps.

Edit/Update #2: Pretty sure it's the 60fps thing that's breaking it for me, unless it's just coincidence.

Repaired the files. No luck.  :(

I also have the Digital Deluxe which I pre-downloaded yesterday. I don't think I set up a shortcut icon so ugh.....

Sorry to hear it didn't work guys. Given that this bug seems to be hitting a few people I'm sure they'll be a solution in the not too distant future.

Try checking your world states guys, someone on reddit had a similar problem, told him to try messing with the Keep and he found that not using his world state let him through, while changing mine worked for me. Repairs and restarts don't seem to do any good.  :(

I used just the default world state in order to avoid this mess, but it's happened to me too. I thought it was part of the game that I was in the frostback mountains but I've spent already four to five hours trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. I'm so mad that I don't even want to touch the game anymore today...

The Inquisitor in the character creator isn't even displaying for me. I just went ahead to see if that was the extent of it, but like a few others, all I can see is a splintered, jagged, flashing mess of the Fade. Dialogue wheel shows, but no Cassandra.
Tried Repair in Origin and restarting. Graphics set to Low. Tried starting new game with default world state instead of a Keep import, same problem. (Preordered the Digital Deluxe via Origin.)

I have more than enough space in GB.

I'm hoping this can be remedied with a patch, instead of investing in a graphics card... which I may have to do. I've been trying to work around this for 4 hours...

Tried everything help told me too. Mostly involved clearing my Origin cache and running CCleaner on my PC.  Then of course everything in my Origin had to reload so I went to sleep since it was 4am.

Nothing worked. Back in the queue.  :(

shot in the dark, but have any of you updated your graphics drivers? These sound like issues that could glitch if not updated to most current, especially the flickering and whatnot. Might sound weird, but those drivers fix some odd issues, even if you don't think its graphic related.

good luck all!

I updated my graphics drivers yesterday and still had this bug happen once. (Out of only two times I was able to test, mind you, so it's not exactly a large sample size.) There's probably something else causing this.
