Honestly, I've played this game for 2 hours and i already hate it, just dont want to play it at all, bcuz im afraid i will crash my computer - so much it drives me crazy!

1. Please give us back to walk with the mouse buttons! WTF guys, how do u suppose i can walk with WASD keys and press spells/abilities buttons at the same time?!

Why to change perfect movement control of DAO/DA2 into a mess???

2. Right now pressing the LMB/r makes the character to attack an empty space - WHY?!? WHY lol?!

3. Zooming out camera automatically triggers tactical window, need an option to disable that.

4. The looting system is .... awfull. Please make it the same way as before, i just want to right click on the item and see my char automatically run to it.

5. IN previous DA i used to walk with pressed TAB button 90% of the time (excepting the battles) to highlight all click-able items to make sure i dont miss important ones. Now its just.. PING?!

--- These are the first complaints after 2 hours playing, i wont play this game until i can normally walk with my mouse, NOT WASD.

This is completely absurd. I feel that Bioware owes us a patch to make the controls more like DAO.

Everyone here needs to stop overcomplicating things. Bioware here is what you need to do:
You know those controls from DA:O and DA2 that everyone loved? Make that happen. Not sure why you put the game out in the sorry state it's in, but you need to fix it. In all honesty it probably requires even more zooming out than those games since the battlefields are larger.

Also fire whoever decided it was a good idea to take a giant dump on the PC users that made bioware what it is, all the while promising them things would be different.

Like OP said, for me it's this :

* "Tactical Camera far from perfect; not enough zoom; resets zoom when switching characters;"

I really liked Dragon Age 1 controls, and was expecting a lot from the tactical view... except it's unusable as it is...

You can't see anything except your own nose with the max zoom out... and when you finally manage to find an enemy, selecting a character centers back the camera to your start point...

If only those 2 things were improved it would actually be a far better experience for me.

I think I'll pause my playthrough and hope they do somethings about this in a future patch...

The tactical cam is blatantly unfit for purpose. They don't really need to be told this, as it should be immediately apparent to anybody who has ever played a game or used a piece of software with a 3D camera before.

I've messed about in the prologue using both controller and M&K and tbh both are an exercise in frustration. Some things work better on controller and some on M&K (overall I actually preferred M&K, simply because pause doesn't fill the screen with a massive radial menu), but the laughably bad tac cam is the deal breaker. I have zero interest in playing any further with it in its current state.

-------

The real solution would be a complete overhaul of Tac Cam, but there are a whole bunch of should-be-quick fixes they could implement. It is currently MUCH easier and quicker to see what's going on with the regular camera pulled right back than with the tactical camera, so we need to try and replicate as much tac cam functionality back to the regular cam as possible. There's no gameplay reason at all for some things to function in one view but not the other. I would suggest:

*Enable auto-attack in regular view. Make it a toggle in options. This shouldn't even need saying.

*Get ALL of the companions action bars on the regular view simultaneously, once weapons are drawn. They can go right above your own action bar (they don't need to be quite as big as your own), all along the bottom of the screen, or with small icons right beside their character portraits - they only have 8 max after all. This would allow you to click their skill and then click on an enemy (which iirc is how Long Shot etc. functions if you don't have a target selected) without having to switch character (or double click the skill to use it on their current target). This has the advantage of not having to keep reorientating yourself and the camera when you want to give a command.

*Hold <companion hotkey, F1-4> and left click an enemy to order that companion to attack said enemy, without switching to that character. Hold <companion hotkey> and right click to issue a move order, without switching to that character. Hell you could even make it so that if you Hold <companion hotkey> and hold left click it pops up a small contextual radial menu of their skills.

The absolute key thing here is to be able to do as much as possible without constantly switching characters and camera angles to do it. Whichever character you have selected (and most likely you would idle on a ranged character to try and maximise your view of the battle) should be able to quarterback the whole thing from their own viewpoint.

I am having a weird problem in the PC game.  There's a rift in the HInterlands that my character can't physically reach no matter where I stand.  I get the hand icon, but it doesn't turn gold indication that I have come in contact with the rift.  The rift at a waterfall somewhere near Redcliff Village.  Has anyone else had this issue?

You probably try to reach the Rift in 3rd person cam, try Tact-Cam you char will move to it when you Right click it.

1) When I take my finger off a movement key, STOP MOVING IMMEDIATELY. I don't need my character to skate/drift/skid to a stop. That's horrible.

2) The camera is a wreck. When you hold down RMB to start controlling the camera, it immediately JERKS the camera based on where your cursor is relative to your character. This is insanely disorienting. Don't move the camera until the user moves the mouse AFTER holding down RMB.

3) Allow key bindings to mouse buttons.

4) More ability bars. Go play an MMORPG if you don't know what I mean.

5) Auto attack option.

6) Some kind of stick lock on for melees so once you lock on your character automatically moves to stay in range.

7) Massive inventory overhaul. We need to be able to see more items, for example.

8) The whole search/looting system is just a disaster. Having to constantly spam search isn't epic. Having to constantly pan around looking for whatever pinged is lame. Give F a huge range - at least as large as the search, and allow an auto-search.

9) If you click on a lootable item, walk over and loot it. And give this huge range - like the range of your search area. And again, see above: F should auto loot anything in range.

The TAC camera is completely unplayable for PC gamers, this is clearly made for consoles.

I have played the game for about 5 hours and I just want to keep this amazing thread going.  I truly want to LOVE this game.  All the PC control issues listed by the previous posters are spot on.

My main ones are:

  • Auto highlight in search the spamming the search key is yes, ruining the emersion.
  •
  • Auto track to loot and things clicked on.
  •
  • Auto attack and tracking the target.  I use Varric in fights so I can just keep shooting arrows while my main character who I would "like" to play keeps swinging away computer controlled.
  •
  • Tactics are lame.  Really dumbed down from DA:O.  I gotta be frank, it does seem like it is the way it is to optimize for game pad.

Look, the game has a lot of potential.  The graphics I think are nice, the story is developing (although misses for me on a personal level, I do not feel like "I AM" the inquisitor like I felt like I was the warden, but I digress).

Patching the PC controls I think would be enough to make this game what it is.  After that, anyone who didn't like the game can chalk it up to "not their cup of tea", but let's not let the controls get in the way.

I need my character to move forward when I click and hold the left & right mouse buttons.

I need to be able to move the camera view by clicking and holding down a mouse button and moving the mouse.

But most importantly, the click to loot needs to be fixed ASAP.  The game is borderline unplayable if im tasked with using wsad for all of my exploring and looting.

The fact that the camera doesn't zoom out far enough and the ancillary mouse buttons can't be used are lesser flaws in my eyes... but  are still things that require a fix.

#3 is something I was worried about ever since Mike Laidlaw announced that the getting to the Tac Cam on PC was, 'as easy as scrolling out on your mouse'.

Initially I was thinking, OK, ease of use.  If we absolutely have to have a redundant ' tactical mode' on PC that doesn't really do anything new, I guess we might as well have an easy way to enter it.  Well, if Tac Cam is so freaking terrible I never want to use it, then allow me to disable the function to go into it, since I will be using the scroll wheel at all times!

Another much needed fix.  If the Tac Cam would use the same camera system as regular Cam, it wouldn't matter, but because Consoles, we MUST have that ground cursor!

It baffles me that in the tactical cam on PC there is that cursor on the ground which is your navigation and move around with wasd, which pretty much screams that it was made for console / controller.

its like there are 2 cursors, that cursor you move with wasd and your mouse cursor.... get rid of wasd cursor!!

I think I agree with most people here. My biggest complaint isn't really the bugs(at least so far) but the way it plays. I played a bit of the ps3 version, which is awful. I decided to buy the pc version which is much better but still has issues. I think the biggest issue is the no auto-attack or auto-pick up loot feature, the "ping" instead of a toggle for finding loot, the camera angles when you zoom in and out. There are probably more but these are my biggest grips. I think if they implemented some of the features closer to DA:O, many people would be happy, at least for PC.

I was so excited for this game,  Origins is one of my all time favorite games.    But the controls in this are garbage,  completely ruined this game for me.

My suggestions

Please give us "classic mode" controls we know and love from DA:Origins

- DO NOT autocenter on character when selecting party member during fights

- Edge scrolling

- Over the shoulder view has to be there (more zoom in please)

- ability to select entire party

- ability to tell the entire party to hold fire unless told otherwise

- point and click moving / moving to loot, currently I need to move close to loot to get it, disable character kneeling to open a chest....takes too much time

- loot all items by default....it is tiresome to click loot all, all the time

- please enable auto attach outside of tactical cam, if I right click an enemy my char should attack instead of standing and watching

- tactical and normal cameras should auto-switch, when ever pause is engaged tactical camera should be on by default, whenever game is not paused normal camera mode should be used (basically like it was in Origins, I don't want to use separate button to switch)

- ability to zoom out further

- I would love to switch to 1st person view when camera zooms in (for Oculus Rift in the future)

- I would like to have DA:O dialogue type (make camera closer like it was in Origins)

Isn't that what the 'hand' button does on the right side of the toolbar?

Dammit, that is right, I had forgotten exactly how that worked in Origins (probably because I've spent the last few weeks in Kirkwall).

Why did they not just utilize this same exact functionality in DAI???  It's clearly the perfect solution.  This would eliminate the problem of accidentally going into this mode when you want to zoom out the normal game.  It would streamline the way you approach combat, tactically planning movements and abilities.

Or am I missing something here?

In theory, yes. In practice, no.

Thing is: You CAN click 'hold', but it's very wonky. I haven't really been able to identify a pattern behind it, but especially in boss fights it's utterly infuriating how at every opportunity ranged characters that you have carefully positioned on the outskirts of the battlefield suddenly decide to rush into normal 'side by side' party formation only to get mauled and swiped and deep breathed at etc. I cannot even begin to describe my frustration with the last two boss fights I was in (one a dragon, one a big-ass demon).

I think the DA:O control is fine, simpler and easier for PC user. Although, I can tolerate with DA:I control on M&KB, it doesn't bring the best experience to PC users. And yes, the tactical camera zoom is not far enough. Together with the "console" movement for the screen, it's really spoil the whole experience.

I think Bioware should just bring back the DA:O control for PC users or at least, patch to something similar.

That sucks.

So they take away the much simpler and easier to use 'Select All' as well as the click to move functionality, and replace them both with a single button that does neither.

Great job, Jimmy

And by 'Jimmy', I am referring to the random entry level Bioware programmer who designed the above system and made that specific choice.  You fail and deserve to be serving me Happy Meals and french fires.

After some thinking, I doubt there will be a patch for click-move because that would make jump useless, defeat the purpose of climbing ladders. DA:O has no ladder, u can't jump, there are no mountain scaling, etc. Regardless, they should at least fix the tactical camera to enable zooming out and in and scrolling the screen with mouse. The panning feels clunky and clumsy. But really, why are there 2 'mouse' at the first place?

I'm not sure I can follow. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, a hugely successful and rather well-known game called WoW allows players to jump, to climb ladders etc and still provides the standard click-to-move/attack control element. I don't see how one would invalidate the other...

Like countless others have rightly said, I wish game producers would stop trying to reinvent the wheel when sometimes, you have the perfect wheel just lying on your front doorstep. By all means, create a great car... but just use the advanced technology called 'wheels' we already have available...

What a mess.  Yea, in terms of the click to move, jumping has always been a stupid idea IMO since it was announced.  Which was primarily because at the time we still thought there would be a Select All function, so group jumps would be possible.  Ladders add another element that would have gotten the same reaction back in Sept.

Regardless, if there is a way to include click to move and still retain those elements, it would be a huge surprise, I agree, because those things just don't seem to flow together.

Terodil, I have never played Wow, do you have any kind of clip that shows how that game handled this?  I'd be interested to see it, and possible try to use it to provide possible suggestions to the patching team when it comes time.  Thanks.

-Add the ability to bind to mouse buttons

-L/R MB together should run foward. Why in the world would I want the ability to attack thin air?

-Zoom distance is so small that it hurts. Also, there is no reason why you should auto switch to tactical view when you hit max zoom

-Allow mouse use over WASD in tactical mode. It bonkers that this even needs to be said.

-Zoom distance in tactical mode is pathetic as well. The camera is finicky and unwieldy. It needs to be looked over again from the bottom up. It's just displeasing to use.

-When you select a character in tactics mode it zooms over to them. Making giving out multiple commands a HUGE pain.

-AI will cancel rift disrupts or revives if you swap to another character. This shouldn't be a thing.

-Bring back highlight objects. This radial search spam is just annoying. Who could think that this was a good idea? Who?

-We need a take all items button. Why this isn't just pressing F again is completely beyond me.

-Featureless minimap is stupid. Take a page from pretty much any other game with one and add a basic terrain outline.

-The lack of tactics is a big issue. The AI is can't even be trusted to perform basic tasks on its own and the tactics menu barely, BARELY allows to alter the way they play. You pretty much have to micromanage there every action on nightmare. Not because nightmare is difficult, but because you will get things like the AI chain casting CC on an already CC'd target, or randomly swapping targets, or archers running into melee range to shoot people at point blank, or characters mindlessly standing in persistent AoE effects

Et cetera. All the "PC first" comments were straight up lies. It certainly looks nice on PC, but this game was clearly made with consoles in mind and with PC as an afterthought. Like, it boggles my mind to think that someone during development could have looked at this **** and thought: "Our PC players will enjoy this".

Honestly, I'd take a refund in a heartbeat if I hadn't already owned the game for over 24 hours.
