Druffy... Unkillable? Bug?

So in the Hinterlands, there's a spot where you encounter some black wolves.  Right after them is a large, bull-like creature named Druffy.  Level 12.  I keep fighting him down to low health, but then he goes invulnerable and won't die.

I've wasted a long time trying to kill this damn creature, and there's no hint in the game as to why I can't kill him.  Numbers keep popping up for damage I've done to him, but his health won't go any lower than about 5% or so.

This is really frustrating and very poor game design.  There should be some hint as to why I can't kill him.  Is this a bug or just bad planning on the devs part?

iirc some enemies got shield thingy on them which u need to break with some mechanic? like pride demon fight.

Nope, nothing like that.  And the pride demon fight was very straight forward.  They shouted at you during the fight to let you know what needed to be done.

At this point im convinced Druffy is either bugged, or is a poorly implemented creature gate to bar you from going to far where you're not supposed to.  Another really out-dated mechanic I've noticed so far.  There's a lot of them.

are you sure it's not just building guard? i've seen the thing killed on streams/youtube but it takes forever because it's level 12 and builds guard constantly. guard is the grey slashes over the health bar.

Yes, I'm quite sure.  I get rid of all the guard armor, and take it's health down to 10% and it won't go any lower.  I fought the thing for literally 30 minutes, using all my potions on Cassandra, and periodically it would build 4 guard, and I'd remove it, and just sits at 10% health.  Damage numbers keep popping up, but it won't die.

Maybe Druffy belongs to someone who you have to  complete a quest for so atm it is immortal ?

Which, if it is the case, is a terribly old and poorly designed gaming mechanic.  Completely immersion breaking and out of place in an RPG.  If it's a quest mob, it either shouldn't spawn until the quest is started... or you should be able to kill it and loot the quest item even if you haven't gotten the quest yet.

I agree wholeheartedly...

Between the texture bugs, awful keyboard & mouse interface, archaic game mechanics....My decision to wait for the All-in-One / GoTY edition, complete with patches and discounts, is definitely looking better by the minute...

Yeah it is definitely either bugged or he's been made unkillable until you get a certain quest or something.

For those asking about armor and such - it is very obvious with him, he builds a LOT of guard but it is also very obvious and you can keep wearing him down until he has just a sliver of health at which point he no longer loses health, even though you see damage numbers. Occasionally he'll build more guard and you can quickly knock it down but again his health refuses to budge down to 0. Ridiculous :(

In that case it should never be aggro because our PCs and NPCs aren't immortal.

It didn't attack me as I walked right past it.  Are you sure you didn't shoot it first?

I just fought Druffy for 10 minutes while it was at 1 HP. There are so many better ways to handle quest mobs(assuming this is a quest mob and not a bug), making them friendly/not attackable is my first thought. This is so immersion breaking I almost want to quit playing.

I just encountered this too and it's really annoying.  It LOOKS like some named mob that could be some random mob to challenge yourself on for fun/loot/whatever.

Then you find out you can't kill it.  Then you're alt+tabbing to figure out WTF is going on.  Then you read this thread.

If the mob is for a quest and is immortal, it shouldn't be attackable.

Hardly the end of the world but it's pretty stupid.

If it can't die, it shouldn't be subject to attack at all.

Druffy is associated with a quest. I'm surprised that he spawns if you haven't pick up the quest...

... Really?! Thats why this thing wont die?! I kept getting cheap 1 shot killed by it after getting it down to a hair for over 10+ minutes and I literally watched it circle the world 3x before I could move a inch with FADE STEP!!! He was across the map aggrod and instant killed intire party when he couldnt do that entire fight! none of my people could move! It was like being magnetized to the floor so the boss could attack! Start move and suddenly, everything haults and like the Flash, he takes you out before you can blink and already cooked and ate dinner while you blinked! One I find that stupid quest, I will roast him slowly... over and over again!! So pissed!!

I knew something was up when my Antivan Fires would erase themselves off the map without liting the ground and kill my sound!!

Druffy horribly murdered me as well. I could tell he was high level but I was wearing him down with no problem. Then all of a sudden my entire party was dead in 5 seconds. Fortunately it restarted me right next to where he was because I realized I hadn't saved in awhile. The combat up until that point had been so easy my characters rarely took any damage at all it seemed and I'm playing on normal.

He won't attack you as you walk by, problem is there are those wolves and you might accidentally attack Druffy as you fight those wolves. If you manage to kill the wolves without attacking that Druffy guy, you can just walk around.

But it is rather irritating, it's one of the things I hope BW patches...

Yeah, even if you don't flag the quest, he's sitting in that little grove / cove thing. I usually try not to kill the ram/druffalos lmao they're the Bioware versions of the Zelda chickens. Evil little jerks.
