So I spent the last few hours mulling things over, after reading stuff about the last gen versions on the board for a while. Bioware didn't care about my console, the port is a complete rush job. If they actually put some real effort in, it would have been great. But no, they were lazy. I know the devs have said they hate us saying that, but it's true. They were so focused on the next gen that they put in the smallest amount of effort into the last gen as possible. Why do I say this?

1. textures seem to be of lower quality than DA2 on consoles

2. the hair is crappy and shiny, even worse than DA2 or even possibly DAO

3. the game apparently has slowdown and lag

4. the character creator is flat-out missing features like scarring

5. I clocked the load times using Youtube at a minute and 15 seconds between major areas (and I thought DA2's 30 seconds was bad...)

6. the lighting wasn't even slightly optimized, faces look like they have a weird orange glow in low lighting

7. the graphics themselves are substandard. And I don't mean compared to the shiny new consoles, I mean even compared to other games in my collection. DA2 is better looking, DAI has DAO level graphics or worse. Console version DAO at that.

You can't even make an argument that it's because "your console is so old and outdated that you should be happy it ran at all!" because of the already-mentioned other last gen games that look leagues better than DAI does. If them having worse hardware is the reason, it's only because Bioware used it being worse hardware as an excuse to throw together the crappiest port they could with the least amount of work they could possibly not put into it. I know the PS3 and 360 are capable of a lot more than DAI doesn't show us.

In my case, I was looking forward to Kingdom Hearts Remix 2.5 that comes on on December 2nd. But money is getting tight, and a few weeks ago I decided DAI had more hype from me and thus was the one I would choose if I had to pick just one to play for a while. Now my priorities have changed. If I figure out my money and realize I only have enough for one... KH gets higher priority than DAI. This shouldn't have been the case, but Bioware didn't try nearly hard enough on their port to make me want to play it. My urge to play DAI has gone from "can't wait" to "maybe I'll get at least a little enjoyment out of it...".

If it's any consolation, they don't seem to care about PC users either.

Can't speak for PC owners, but that doesn't surprise me. It's obvious Bioware only cared about the next gen consoles at the expense of all else. God, this is like "PS3 version of Bayonetta and Skyrim" all over again.

Or they weren't given enough time, so they allocated most of their energy to next gen consoles.

Here is a visual comparison of what we got on the PS3 versus gameplay shown on youtube of the same scene.  Talk about texture detail being left on lowest of low for the PS3.

I'm on 360 and I will be honest in saying that the graphics look better for DA2. There's something very strange happening with the 360 graphics. I'm confused.

That's what I said in the opening post. This game on PS3 and 360 look worse than the PS3 and 360 versions of DA2. That isn't my console being too weak, that's a company not giving a damn.

I feel someone said, "Okay, for the last gen consoles, let's just lower the quality of all the textures so that it can run without too much lag."

I'm not either. I thought it would look crappier, but still holds its own as one of the better looking games of last gen. Instead I got graphics that look like they came from a 360 game that came out in 2005 or something.

There is a reason why the texture quality is so bad: 256 MB VRam

You need a lot more Memory when you have an open world. Either cut the texture quality or have 5 m draw distance.

Well, lets face it, last gen will be phased out eventually. Its the PC port (yes, its a port) that im worried about.

I'm not sure what you expected? PS3's and 360's can't handle anything better than that, and even if they could, Bioware obviously wants to spend their energy on current gen resrouces. Honestly it's a God damned miracle they even bothered releasing the game for 360 and PS3 in the first place.

Eidt: Also these too images are not comparible since one is a HD screenshot and the other is a photo taken of a screen, of course it will look way worse.

Skyrim was open world, which I own on both the PC and PS3, and the texture quality on the PS3 did not suffer this badly, it was almost up to par with the pc.   I feel like they could have cut the draw distance.  Taking away texture quality makes the whole game loose quality.

Except no, GTA V on PS3 looks light years better than this. That game is even more open world than DAI. Like I said, you can't make an argument that it's that the consoles are too weak, because any argument you can make will fall flat.

.  Taking away texture quality makes the whole game loose quality.

Then buy more powerful hardware. Sheesh!

Maybe they could've avoided this "Don't care about last gen" after releasing it on last gen by not releasing it on last gen at all. Meh!

NUH! I have many open world games for both those consoles that make DAI's last gen ports look like the dung they are graphically. You are flat-out wrong.

It doesn't even look that bad, so I really don't know what you're pissy about

You said it sarcastically, but I agree. If they were going to make this shoddy of a port with this little effort put in, I would have preferred they just ignored last gen. That at least wouldn't feel like a slap in the face. They shouldn't have bothered if this was the best they were going to do.

From what I've been reading from people who actually own the PS3 and 360 version, it looks loads worse in person. There is no excuse for DA2 looking better, open world or not.

I expected graphics that were better, if not at least as good as DA2. I am upgrading my pc to run games with max texture detail, but I thought I could deal with normal graphics until then, so I bought a copy for the PS3 to play in the mean time... but the quality?  It's horrid.  I keep hearing people blame the console, but both of these consoles have handled games with extreme texture detail just fine in the past, so why would this one be any different?  This isn't the console, it's the texture detail being left low for these consoles by the devs.

Woah, what is anecdotal evidence and how does it work? /s

That is a 1080p recording right there, look for yourself.

I agree, I would have just bought the PC version and played that until I upgraded to better hardware, but I thought the PS3 would have better graphics than my pc would on low settings.  Obviously I was wrong.

I've watched it. And pretty much every single person who's played those versions have said the texture quality is bargain bin material.
