So I spent the last few hours mulling things over, after reading stuff about the last gen versions on the board for a while. Bioware didn't care about my console, the port is a complete rush job. If they actually put some real effort in, it would have been great. But no, they were lazy. I know the devs have said they hate us saying that, but it's true. They were so focused on the next gen that they put in the smallest amount of effort into the last gen as possible. Why do I say this?

 

1. textures seem to be of lower quality than DA2 on consoles

 

2. the hair is crappy and shiny, even worse than DA2 or even possibly DAO

 

3. the game apparently has slowdown and lag

 

4. the character creator is flat-out missing features like scarring

 

5. I clocked the load times using Youtube at a minute and 15 seconds between major areas (and I thought DA2's 30 seconds was bad...)

 

6. the lighting wasn't even slightly optimized, faces look like they have a weird orange glow in low lighting

 

7. the graphics themselves are substandard. And I don't mean compared to the shiny new consoles, I mean even compared to other games in my collection. DA2 is better looking, DAI has DAO level graphics or worse. Console version DAO at that.

 

You can't even make an argument that it's because "your console is so old and outdated that you should be happy it ran at all!" because of the already-mentioned other last gen games that look leagues better than DAI does. If them having worse hardware is the reason, it's only because Bioware used it being worse hardware as an excuse to throw together the crappiest port they could with the least amount of work they could possibly not put into it. I know the PS3 and 360 are capable of a lot more than DAI doesn't show us.

 

 

In my case, I was looking forward to Kingdom Hearts Remix 2.5 that comes on on December 2nd. But money is getting tight, and a few weeks ago I decided DAI had more hype from me and thus was the one I would choose if I had to pick just one to play for a while. Now my priorities have changed. If I figure out my money and realize I only have enough for one... KH gets higher priority than DAI. This shouldn't have been the case, but Bioware didn't try nearly hard enough on their port to make me want to play it. My urge to play DAI has gone from "can't wait" to "maybe I'll get at least a little enjoyment out of it...".

 

All games in this Industry keep getting developed for last gen consoles, and yet you still whining about your console?

There's many games that doesnt even available on PC yet. And you still asking for more?

 

I guess some people dont want to understand somethings.

I've watched it. And pretty much every single person who's played those versions have said the texture quality is bargain bin material.

 

Well I'm watching it too and it looks like 360 graphics to me, so again, I dunno what you expected. Invest in a high end PC or a next gen console.

Even at shitty quality, I wish I COULD PLAY THE GAME AT ALL PAST FIVE MINUTES IN BUT INSTEAD IT JUST FREEZES ALWAYS AND FOREVER AT THE SAME PLACE.

 

At this point, quality of the graphics is the least of my concern. I just want to play.

When it's a shoddy-ass port that I'm getting charged full price for? A shoddy port that I thought would at least be acceptable? I'm not going to go "oh thank you Bioware for blessing me with any version of your game, even if it's abysmal" when I was led to believe that it would at least look good for last gen... Which it doesn't.

Like I said before, the fact that the games are even available for 360 and PS3 is a miracle considering there are two completely new consoles that have been on the market for about a year now. Of course Bioware focused on the higher end graphics first. The demand that the last gen graphics should have been anything more than last gen quality is condescending.

You know, the more I post in here and the more I think about it, the less I'm wanting to buy it. Bioware has 2 days, which is when I was going to buy DAI, to get a patch out that will make this game at least of last gen standard... Or I won't even bother checking my financial situation, I'll just save my money. Right now the game is so awfully playing and looking that I feel like I should be the one getting paid for playing it, instead of paying them to play it.

If this is a miracle, I'd hate to see what you call a disaster. And no, it's not ridiculous. I knew it was a last gen game, so I expect last gen quality and was willing to pay full price. Now I learn it's not even last gen quality. You damn well better believe that I'm going to have issue with that.

You took the words out of my mouth. I thought they would be better graphics than my pc on low so I got the PS3 version expecting the graphics to be like DA2.

Ok. So, people who are actually playing last gen versions of the game, would one of you being willing to compare what you're experiencing firsthand to what we've seen in PS3/XB360 gameplay videos on Youtube?

The graphics don't need to look good, but to find any type of footage of the game in last gen has been non-existent.  I have found footage on youtube recently and the graphics don't look bad to me from the environment to the combat.  What is funny is that the texture on the characters look worse than DA2, with textures popping in and out.  I am no graphics snob but I would have expected some better facial textures than this. 

 

 I think this thread is important to me because it is literally the only information besides that article I read months ago you posted and the youtube gameplay vid that came up two days ago.  I think the current gen game and high end PC looks great and I am happy for those that are enjoying those versions!

Also, as I keep playing, I notice that the texture starts out super blocky with no detail on some scenes, and increases as the scene loads.  I won't mention the load time for big scenes...

So next gen players didn't get as good looking of a game as they could have because of the last gen versions, and last gen players get a really bad looking game for its own generation because of next gen versions. Yeah, Bioware shouldn't have bothered if this was how they were going to do it. At least then I wouldn't have gotten hyped and held out hope for a game worth owning, I would have just sucked it up and moved on. I wouldn't have had expectations to hurt.

It's bad. I am not a person who gives a crap about graphics but if it's bad enough that *I* notice, then it's BAD.

We plan to hopefully upgrade to the ps4 version in the morning which means buying a ps4 about a year earlier than we'd planned.

But I have no idea what deal we can cut with Gamestop to make this switch since the game was already opened.

In truth, I'm feeling stressed and very angry because I spent three years looking forward to this game. I assumed the graphics would be DA2 quality or slightly better. But they're so bad that I feel like I'm constantly squinting at my tv. I might've sprained my face just trying to make heads or tails of the textures.

At one point my inquisitor looks down at her hand and her fingers look like they're made of pixelated playdough. I was actually missing those scary crypt-keeper hands from DA2.

My stomach is churning. I'm pretty upset. This game cost *70* dollars. I'm tired. I'm headed to bed. I'll fix the immediate issue in the morning (which will be all of our Christmas money) but BioWare has lost a loyal fan today. (Two if you count my husband.)

 

I almost entirely agree. This is an inexcusable mess. I'm very, very glad I decided to not buy on release day. Better to learn this all now before blowing 60 or 70 bucks on it. I don't know if they "lost a loyal fan with me" yet, because I'm giving them a day or 2 to patch this mess. If there's no patch... Then I'll be buying DAI years from now for the PS4 once I own that console. And I'll be buying it used, so Bioware won't see a cent of that purchase. They want my 60 bucks from buying new, they better fix this fast.
