It's official: Bioware didn't care about the last gen consoles.

Wait... You installed a patch when you booted the game up? Could the update be at fault? Do a big favor and delete the install and play offline so the patch doesn't happen again and so you're not connected to the internet. Being online can cause problems and patches can cause problems, and you can check both for us.

Please?

It was an "update require to play the game" kind of update.  I can delete it, but I can't play the game without the update.

I downloaded my copy. Don't know about all the downloads specifically. I got the Deluxe Edition so there were a few things, and when I fired the game up for the first time a patch downloaded as well.

So the one person who's DAI PS3 version looks good also happens to be the one who has the digital version... We need more than one person though. We need this thread to get more people, it could just be a coincidence. If a second person who has a good copy also happens to have the digital version, I'm going to start heavily suspecting something.

Oh, it's that kind. Damn. So far everyone who has the physical copy has a bad looking version of the game, and the one guy with digital has a game that is actually to standard. But don't jump to conclusions yet, we need to hear from at least one other digital copy owner.

By the way, in case it turns out to be that the digital version is good... How big is the install? I'm worried about space. I'm assuming you own the PS3 version.

Yeah, I'm super curious now too!  If it does happen to be that the digital copy is up to par, then maybe it could be something that an update patch might fix on the hard copies....

Please bioware is a serious subcompany that made mistakes this is what happens when you create software. There is no way to not make mistakes we are humans and things happen give them some slack the attention to details to make a game perfect is to much for a human.

That's why I said I'm giving Bioware a few days. It's possible it might be fixed or I'll just need the digital copy. I just asked in the comments of that PS3 video if their video was the digital version or now. Hopefully they answer.

The game is 16.6 GB large.

When they delayed the game to fix this crap very few people went off...and the ones I saw that did, did so because they had scheduled time off work.

I'm on the PSN right now and it says 16.6 GB.

Normally I hate buying digital anything, but I'm seriously considering just going for the digital now.

Same here. But like you are alluding to, if the digital version actually looks good then it's the one I'll get.

The major reason we need more responses about the digital versus disk issue is that Kaiser might be off. Not saying that as an insult, keep reading. Some people are more sensitive to bad graphics than others, and I've seen times before where one person thinks a game looks great and another thinks it looks terrible. It's possible his/her copy is just as bad and simply doesn't notice. It's just a fact of things, some people just notice bad graphics more than others. That and needing a decent sample size, are the reasons I need more than just a single point of evidence before declaring the digital copy to be okay.

Isn't there an option to install the whole game on your HDD?

There could be a problem with streaming textures from the disc. The BD-drive in the PS3 is pretty slow, only 9 MB/s.

No. PS3 games have never allowed it, and the 360 version of DAI uses a unique way of playing that makes you unable to install if fully to the disk and it must be streamed off the disk. That last part is why I'm getting the PS3 version, if I get it at all.

I don't see the option to install from the disc menu before I launch it...  I'm going to see if I can mess with the size, since everything looks pixilated as if it was in a smaller resolution than it should be...

*snip*

In my case, I was looking forward to Kingdom Hearts Remix 2.5 that comes on on December 2nd. But money is getting tight, and a few weeks ago I decided DAI had more hype from me and thus was the one I would choose if I had to pick just one to play for a while. Now my priorities have changed. If I figure out my money and realize I only have enough for one... KH gets higher priority than DAI. This shouldn't have been the case, but Bioware didn't try nearly hard enough on their port to make me want to play it. My urge to play DAI has gone from "can't wait" to "maybe I'll get at least a little enjoyment out of it...".

I'll tell you why this game looks worse than DA2 on last-gen systems.

There's a difference between squeezing every last drop of power from your target system (DA2 scenario) and scaling your game down to match an underpowered system it wasn't built for (DA:I scenario).

That's it. If we're going to look at it a different way, then yes, you're correct, next-gen was their focus. But you have to remember that all last-gen ports are now being developed from a 'top-down' perspective. That is to say, they are developed on the basis of next-gen tech, before being scaled down to accommodate last-gen hardware. It's a different (and convenient) approach from how things were pre-next-gen. And for many developers out there, it's here to stay until last-gen is phased out for good.

If DA:I was developed primarily for PS360 like DA2, you wouldn't be seeing these graphics (again, for the same reason).

Hope this makes sense.

Except this is the worse looking cross-gen game I've ever seen. I said it before, the last gen versions of GTA V look much closer to its next gen version.

But GTA V wasn't a next-gen game, whereas DA:I is. I don't see how that relates to the argument I made.

Whether or not this is the worst-looking cross-gen port you've seen is irrelevant. The main point is for what systems the game in question was primarily developed for.

Right now though, if you've read the thread, things are a bit... Unusual. We all agree that the PS3 version is that video looks great. None of us have a problem with it. And yet so many personal accounts are saying the game looks as bad as I've stated and that theirs looks much worse than that vid of their same version. We're thinking it might be that digital copies actually look good and are the horrific mess the last gen versions appear to be are disk copies. We're trying and waiting for more people with the last gen digital copy to join in and say whether their version is actually up to standard with that video.

I just checked on my amazon account and notice that my pre-order of the PC deluxe version is in In transit as we speak. The estimate day I will get the game will be on Thursday, November 20, 2014 by 8pm. Reading these comments is making me extremely nervous.

And what model of which console do you own? The only way to test if my guess is right is to start figuring out how old each person's last gen console is. And by old I don't mean age, I mean the actual model.

I suspect it has more to do with the person's own interpretation of what is acceptable to him and what not. No matter what PS3 you have, it should look exactly the same.

Also, i've noticed a while ago, stuff always looks better on youtube than on your own TV. I guess video compression makes imperfections less stand out.

Well, I'm downloading the PS3 digital edition right now. I'll post what I think of it when I get there.

I'm not so sure. If anything, I've always found Youtube to make everything look worse than it does in real life.

That's fine. They shouldn't have said they used the last gen at their maximum potential then.
