Just started up the game and changed the PC controls to gamepad.  Gamepad not detected, tried reinstalling official xbox drivers for the Xbox One controller, didn't work.  (this same gamepad works on every controller compatible Steam game, just sayin)

Tried disconnecting and reconnecting, didn't work.

Disabled HID device gamepad in device manager, restarted client, didn't work.

With the current bug you have that shuts off the keyboard when a gamepad is selected now I CAN'T DO ANYTHING BUT LOOK AT THE "PRESS START BUTTON" SCREEN!  Please give us a guide or patch this asap.

Did you check if there was a firmware update for your console? There definetely is one for the PS4 which is mandatory for playing DAI

Firmware for the controller?  If that's what you meant then yes, I just updated this controller to the latest XB1 has.

FYI - I'm using a XB1 controller on PC.  Can't continue past first screen.

Go to documents and find the bioware/dragonageinquisition/save directory. There are two profile files you can delete but you'll have to start over from the beginning and play with the keyboard/mouse until someone figures this out. Hey BIOWARE, what's up with this?

Actually I figured this one out. It's being cause by an overlay program that tracks fps or Raptr's tracking feature. You have to exit out of all of these programs or you will not be able to interact with the game.

For my own information, are you running single monitor or multi-monitor?

I personally run NVIDIA Surround and those who I've encountered are also running Surround.

Hope this helps.

Single monitor 2560x1440.  I'll give that a try.  Really need keyboard functionality as well even when gamepad is default input device.

Nope, didn't work, closed out most of the running programs in "notification area" only Origin and necessary system software is running.  Once again I'm stuck at the screen after you confirm to change the controls over.

I'm not that far in so I could delete the local save data but this should be a nuclear option not the only way to troubleshoot.

I need a dev to give some feedback soon or I'm going to request a refund for this game, this is ridiculous!

So I found a fix for, at least getting control of the game again. I can't get the gamepad to work (Rock Candy) but at least I can play.

Go to documents/bioware/save/ open up profileoptions_profile with a notepad, search for gamepad, and change the value from 1 to 0. This should give you keyboard control back.

Here is how to fix this, there are two options:

Option 1: Disable Origin overlay completly for the game. It has been guranteed to work 100% of the time for me. Disabling this should allow the programs I have listed below to work. I personally have Raptr (tracking only no overlay) and FRAPS running with no problems. By far this is the best solution.

Option 2: Disable overlay programs that show FPS, take screenshots or other social stuff. This includes but isn't limited to (ie there could be more) FRAPS, Raptr, EVGA Precision X, GPUZ and possibly Overwolf, which comes with Team Speak 3. This is the hit or miss solution, sometimes it would work first time or I would have to crash the game relaunch for it to work. The only benefit to using this one over the previous one is that you can use the Origin overlay.

Sorry I didn't mention the first option when I previously gave a solution. It was a long night. Also, you do not need the Origin overlay for multi-player or any other additional content that requires the Dragon Age Server. The game only has to detect that Origin is running. If you get told Origin isn't running the first solution is reinstall Origin and it could fix it, after that I have no other suggestions because I didn't need to look into it any further.

Game on!

Still not working... I shouldn't have to resort to stopping other programs to get the gamepad to work in this game... I have never had to do this on Steam.  I'll be asking for a refund.

PC is a marvelous system, isn't it?

I've yet to experience a single crash (not counting the one where I left the game running in the background for hours, forgot about it, then got back in it and got a crash :P), gamepad is detected automatically... and I pretty have much have none of the problems other people have, except for the micro stutter in cutscenes, which is something everybody has.

I had trouble getting my xbox 360 controller working.  To test if is recognised go start --> in search type joy.cpl and hit enter,

This will bring up the Game Controllers window, I'd installed the W7 drivers and the controller seemed to be working but it didn't show up in Game controllers.  So I unplugged the controller went into device manager and uninstalled everything that mentioned the 360 controller there were 2 separate references to the 360 controller in my device manager.  I restarted then once I'd logged back into windows plugged the controller in.

Windows did it's usual installing hardware thing and now my controller is recognised again in DAI.
