Or some reviewers think DAI has an average story. Twelve of one...

Bioware's strength has been in it's characters more these years. Kotor had that great twist, as did Jade Empire, but...most of Biowares games are driven by its excelent character writing, not the plots. Those tend to be decent to average imo. The characters...memorable and genuine.

Uh what's all this talk of the game not having subtitles? The streams had subs, so what are people on about?

The fact is, we gamers are some of the worst kinds of customers out there. Nobody has any idea how games are made, and yet we expect everything to be perfect right away, or GIVE ME MAH MONEY BACK.

And, working in retail just makes me more patient. So to me, just because a game is buggy at launch does not make it bad. People need to chill out. Day 1 Patch will be out today. TODAY is day 1. Not yesterday, not two days ago. Today. Chill out.

yeah that' cool, except for the part where the day one patch won't fix any of the problems that people are complaining here... it will just fix some minor bugs spotted by the reviwers

Well the PC controls are indeed awkward, managable but awkward, and the start of the game doesn't give much of depth of gameplay.

What breaks it is the no English text option, like, seriously ? who tough it would be a brilliant idea to not have English text with English voiceover ?

Urm... I have no issues with this, in the options you can select whether you want subtitles for only main conversations or conversations + ambient.  It's under the Audio category.  Or maybe it's because you are using a different language version and choosing English VO?  In any case, I can confirm I can see all subtitles.

A car has to keep you safe or else you end up dead. A game has to entertain you. If you don't like it, then move on. (I don't mean you, I mean this in general.)

Ok let's try again. TVs. I have no clue how they are made. I expect my TV to work flawlessly the day I buy it.

Game has to entertain me, Tv has to entertain me. Better now ?

There are subs, yes, but not in english in a lot of regional versions. So far there's no way to make the game work in english text if it didn't include one from the beginning.

If the TV simply won't turn on that's one thing. But if there is a corner of  the TV that doesn't display anything, and you can get a patch to fix it, that's another thing. If DAI doesn't turn on, then yeah complain. But if you can play it just fine with a few hiccups, and you know you are going to get a patch to fix it why call for developer's heads? If the issues aren't gamebreaking, like AC Unity's framerate for example, moaning on a message board and making demands about things you don't understand is silly.

I have played around 8h (mind you havent even hit the hinterlands yet, still trying to figure out which of the 4 inquisitors i made im going to go with for full first playthrough). Im playing on PC.

And it seems to me many people are complaining about stuff that its only happening to a few. Some bugs can be completely overlooked, others not so much. I only found 1 bug so far in the dialogue options where u cant choose which one to go with using the mouse, but easily fixed if you just pick the dialogue option you want with the numbers on your keyboards.

The problem about shiny hair, beards, lag etc is all due to graphics i believe. All those problems people are complaining about visually can be fixed if you play in High settings, the problem is High settings are quite demanding, and most people dont have a PC that can cope with that without hindering the performance of the game. I myself am playing with a mix of low and medium settings, with only Mesh on High quality so i get good looking hair/beards.

The other problem i see, is the game plays very differently from DAO and DA2, and i mean VERY differently. Takes some getting used to. My first couple hours in the game i was actually having bad feelings about it as many people are having atm, but just give it time, play around with your keybinds to make sure everything is to your liking and just hold on until you get used to the mechanics.

I also hope Bioware releases a patch soon to fix the major bugs (havent found one yet tbh but many people seem to have them).

Im really enjoying it. I havent even left Haven cause im lifting every rock and looking behind every tree to find materials to get the first crafting missions done :P Just haven itself, while not having "much" to do, is big enough to keep you entertained a couple hours or more. Companions / Advisors to talk to, sending agents to do missions, doing sidequests etc. Mother Giselle must be fuming already for she's been waiting for quite a while since the advisors sent me to her... Must... Complete... Haven... First...... I want my requisitions to start rolling before i venture into the "big world" - Hinterlands.

PS: Make sure you download the AMD driver for Inquisition, might help a little.

Go check Origins. There's a DLC there with the English Language Package. It was release today only i think. Just check your game tab and look under on the list of dlcs.

You know what is even sillier? Telling people off for voicing valid complaints, people have a right to complain about a product they payed good money for, it is called feedback and without feedback how do you expect a company improve their goods and services?

Not sure what is so outlandish about expecting something you bought to work and to have a certain level of quality control?

Are you having the gender-race issue? If it turns out that's only for a few people, I'll probably still make my Qunari Male, but if it turns out its for everyone, I'll probably just go with a Female Human until the Patch fixes it!

The problem is people have no patience. It's the same song and dance for everything. The developers have been working their asses off for years making this game. And the fact is *most* of the complainers go overboard. Instead of being calm, instead of being constructive, they rant, rage, flame, and bash the game incessantly demanding a fix NOW. The developers are HUMAN. Give them time to fix things instead of demanding a refund.

Games of today's age are a permanent work in progress because of what goes into them. The bigger the title, the more of a work in progress.

The horrific comparisons in this thread are hilarious.

Simply put, DA:I is good. There's some rough patches, but it's good. I mean there's around 200 hours of content, and it hasn't even been released for 12 hours in most places. And I doubt it's been out for 200 hours anywhere (minus developers/reviewers).

Give it a week or two and we'll see what unfolds, and what's patched right away. People should complain though. Let's Bioware know what to patch up first I suppose.

Also Quality Control is subjective. The game runs, and the game has a higher level of quality than DA2. That's plenty to dwell on for now.

I've played about 10 hours now.

Games pretty demanding and performance is a little shaky. Still perfectly playable though and looks great on ultra. I'm not sure what the experience will be like for people closer to min requirements but I'm sure drivers will remedy the worst issues. I have yet to experience a single ctd.
The only bug I've noticed is that sometimes the mouse won't highlight speech options for a few seconds.

Controls work fine and just take some getting used to, will be a little jarring if you've recently played DA:O/DA2.
They could certainly of been better, but it's only a minor issue.

Tactical cam feels badly implemented and is practically useless outside of nightmare. You have to hold shift or both mouse buttons to pan with the camera and you will spend a lot of time wresting with the camera anywhere that has a low ceiling. Also companions rarely seem to follow orders. It's clear the game was supposed to be played over the shoulder.

Can't really comment on story or anything yet, but I can say that the game is gigantic and throws you in at the deep end.

I see it now, but it's only Voice Over pack. It makes spoken dialogue to be in english, but not subtitles or codex text or ability descriptions. None of the things butchered by inconsistent translation are fixed by it

Here's the thing. If a car doesn't work properly, it can get you killed.

If a game doesn't work properly, you wait for a patch, but it doesn't harm you. At all.
...
A game is 100 percent luxury item.

Right. And people rightly expect a certain minimum quality from a luxury item that they pay consirable sums of money for. If not polish then at least a decent level of usability, without showstoppers and without in-your-face sloppiness or senseless, myopic restrictions.

I am hearing-impaired and have to refer to subtitles on occasion even when wearing headphoness. Guess what? I'm not a resident of an English-speaking country, and I won't know until midnight tomorrow whether the game I paid 70 € for will show me usable subtitles or not. Quite apart from the fact that the game may not even offer English voiveovers. I contacted support several times before buying the game but they didn't deign me with an answer.

Also, why can the left mouse button not be configured like the other controls? A completely superfluous and avoidable restriction.

Both flaws will affect usability/enjoyment of the game for the entire time, both are entirely avoidable and stupid. We tend to forgive the games we like a lot of problems, unless we are the victims of a showstopper. But it is very difficult to forgive the incredible half-assedness of some things vs. their long-term effects on us.

P.S.: did I mention that I spent the first couple hundred hours of playing DA:O cursing pretty much continuously? The fact that I continued playing anyway is a testament to its awesomeness, but it didn't ascend the throne of all-time favourite game until I was 300-400 hours into it.

That was when I had I learnt to apply automatically and subconsciously all the little workarounds for getting over the top step of every flight of stairs, navigating around invisible pebbles on the ground, and remembering things like invisible walls, invisible cul-de-sacs and unwalkable surfaces on apparently plain walkable floors, and a gazillion of other little things that my fingers remember even if I don't...

Because a good chunk of the people complaining are doing so in a way that is neither constructive nor helpful. That's the problem.

I can understand being frustrated and saying "Hey, Bioware, this is a problem."

The "I want a refund, this game sucks shame on you Bioware" is not constructive.

My main gripe is the tactical camera and the fact that you can't zoom out to a decent distance with it as I was never a fan of the action oriented combat that was introduced in DA2. Other than that, not that many complaints. English subtitles works perfectly fine for me, bought in a Spanish speaking country.

World is bigger than english speaking solely.
I have no issue understanding english even if rom another country.

subtitles however I should expect to be there for anyone not getting the voice over.

My hype died completely about month ago, what I read now in these threads is what I already noticed before, in streams and videos.

It is now on level with other average games out there, going to play it when it hits the bargain bin.

90% percent of gameplay elements I was excited about in DA games are gone or redone the oppsoite way. All there is left is the story, and the story alone is not all that importnat for me in computer games.

Mechanics > Gameplay > Story. First one is borked beyond any repair. Second one seems not any better now that I am reaeding about it. Story alone isn't worth to me more than 10$ and that is the price I am going to wait for.

so what are you doing playing the game on launch day? obvious troll

if you really didn't like the gameplay why waste your time and buy the game on release day at full price?
just so you can come here and complain and whine and ******
