Whenever I try to launch the game (downloaded with Origin), there's just a black box, then a full black screen with just a cursor, then it crashes. I meet the minimum requirements and the only people I see encountering this issue have dual cores. I have a quad core and I'm still having this issue?

I am having the same issue. Repaired, re-installed and still will not launch. Huge disappointment.

Is there a way for you to change the settings outside of the game? Try running it windowed or using DirectX10 instead of 11. These things have worked for me in the past when games are acting up.

The problem is it seems the file preferences like windowed mode are generated after the point the game crashes - so there's nothing external to change. I tried mocking up the folder structure and the profile file, but no luck.

You can try the suggestion there for manually creating one - I had no luck with it.

This happened to me last night. I fixed it by.
1. Cussing a bunch
2. Running repair
3. Updating my gpu driver (which I hadn't done in a very long time)
4. Cussed it one more time then it started right up.

The game acts up the least for me if I launch it after a reboot. I've been able to play it for about an hour on medium/low settings, but if I try running it after any other game, or running it a 2nd time, it acts up and freezes on the main menu.

I'm using it on a:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz
Video Card: AMD 6870 1GB
RAM: 8 GB
OS: Windows 8 64 bit
