Denuvo is for preventing cheating, not preventing piracy.

To clarify, people have long used hacks of the .exe and coalesced in ME 3 MP to give themselves free credits, thus bypassing the need to purchase packs (BW/EA income) or play the game to earn the necessary tools at the normal pace (a pace designed to be slow enough to prompt many gamers to purchase additional packs.)

 

Denuvo prevents that practice. Or, at least, will curtail it significantly during the game's early life in order to maintain a high income flow.

 

At least one developer has actually addressed that issue, although the clarification regarding MP cheating is my own.
