Game launches fine, but freezes

I pre-ordered the Dragon Age: Inquisition - Digital Deluxe edition on Origin for PC some time ago. I had the game preloaded before release. Right after the game released I tried playing it, but I was having some issues. I know of some issues people are having where the game crashes at or right after launch, BUT my DA:I game launches just fine. I can get to the menu screen, but after 5-10 seconds it freezes. I've tried going into the options & starting a new game to get off the menu screen (and the motion there)... Usually freezes before I can click on "New Game", and I can get into the "Options" but then it freezes again on me shortly after. I have to get out of it by "Alt+Tab"-ing out and launching the Windows 7 task manager - where I'd expect it to say "Not Responding", but the game reads like it's still running fine. So I exit by Ending task/program. I tried rebooting my PC and going back into the game - got the same freeze(s). Tried reinstalling DirectX & C++ manually & restarting, still nothing. I was then wondering if maybe something went wrong when I pre-loaded the game, so I completely uninstalled the game, & got the download/installation process started again (early this morning) just before I went to work. It finished & everything appeared to be fine, but it still gives me the same freezes... PLEASE HELP. If anyone has any help or advice to offer, I'd appreciate it. :)

Btw - all my hardware meets the minimum hardware requirements BY FAR, and even the Recommended (except the amount of video ram for recommended - I have 2Gb GDDR5 instead of 3Gb). Should be able to play everything at least on high graphically from what I've seen & heard. For a processor, I use an Intel Core2 Quad - Q9450 (2.66GHz standard clock) that I usually have overclocked to about 3.25GHz... I even tried running the game with the CPU at normal speeds, but I got the same results (freezing at the menu).

HW specs:

~ CPU: Intel Core2 Quad - Q9450 (2.66GHz standard clock, OC'd & stable @ 3.25GHz), .45nm

~ RAM: 8Gb Corsair Dominator

~ VIDEO: MSI R7870 Hawk - Radeon HD 7870 GHz edition [2Gb GDDR5]

~ SOUND: Creative Labs X-Fi Fatal1ty Champion edition 7.1 24-bit sound card

~ HDD: 1Tb of internal hard drive space

~ OS for gaming: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit w/ DX11

I am having the EXACT same issue.  My rig exceeds minimum specs also, but it freezes on menu screen before I can click anything.  Can't figure it out.

I have a similar issue. To click on anything in the menu takes 5 to 30 seconds of waiting before anything loaded. after clicking on something I would wait then be able to click on something else each time taking around 20 secounds. I don't think its my hardware and I already updated drivers though apperently Nvidia is releasing/released some new drivers today so I might try that when I get home...at work unfortunately :(

I did read someone had some luck updating directx and c++ so you might try that.

I7

GTX 660 Ti

16gb RAM

To be honest, this is quite good news for us peons with dual-core processors.... it looks like the issue isn't simply a CPU check, so it might actually be fixed....

Have you tried rebooting the machine, and then starting the game? That is the only time I can get it past the main menu.

This also may sound crazy but be sure to have your machines administrator regional setting set to english USA if that is where you are located as this can cause the game to lock up.

Same issue as well, but it only affects the main menu. If I go straight into playing the game, I seem to have no problems and can then access the menus from there...

I have the same issue.  I've been able to play, but about half the time I launch the game it freezes on the main menu, it also froze when I went back after playing.

Having the same issue. Here is the silly part... It run perfectly well when I disable my internet connection. Go ahead and try this, it is something that's trying to connect.

Yeah, seems like I'm stuck with these freezes - either until they release an update/patch to fix the issue (pretty sure it's the game), or AMD comes out with better drivers for my graphics card (already at the latest stable drivers that work). I want to play this game SO FREAKING BAD! :P lol

There is beta driver for Radeon cards for DAI.
http://support.amd.c...leaseNotes.aspx

For me this didn't defeat the menu boss.
Reading over the EA forum, it looks like it's a problem related to the CPU and effecting mostly Duo and Quad core systems.

I had done literally every suggestion that I found yesterday since it crashed 8 times to the point that I almost threw my PC out the window.  I double checked the C++ and Nvidia and restarted it computer and was able to play it for 40 minutes without crashing before I went to bed.  Not sure if it'll hold up, but I found out that if you disable origin in game that people didn't have the crashing/freezing issue, so I'm hoping that works for us too (haven't tried it yet; need the monies from job).

Nice. Might try it with Origin disabled & see if that helps :)

Nope, didn't work. Still freezes w/ Origin In-Game disabled. Also tried disabling my network adapter to lose internet access - didn't work either.

I think it is the Radeon drivers (or how the game uses them). I bought a Radeon R9 280 3GB, and performance was almost as bad as with my original Radeon 6870 1GB (game was passably playable if I could make it off the main menu). Took that back, and bought a Nvidia 660TI 2GB, all/most of the settings defaulted to high, and the thing runs smooth as silk.

Try this fix.

Worked for me, as I was having issues with the game just freezing after getting to the main menu. But so far disabling one core at launch via task manager has worked.

So every time you start the game you have to tab out and disable one core? I have the same issue, quad core i5 750, and I have also noticed that CPU usage is almost 100% when in the menu. I hope they address it in the coming patch.

How in the world can people experience driver issues with the  company Bioware worked with? I'm not doubting you at all. It just seems messed up

No idea.

...but when I saw this, I plugged in my old Radeon 6870 to see if it worked, and, YUP!, main menu no longer freezing. Also, that main menu is sweet!

Nope... that's a negative. This isn't working for me either. Thought is was working at first, but it froze like before - just made it a couple seconds longer. Even if it did work, it wouldn't be a permanent fix either - this is something you'd have to do EVERY TIME you went into game.

Yeah, this "fix" didn't work for me the first 2 times I tried it but since then its been working.

But like you said, its annoying since you have to do it every time you load up the game.

I played 5 hours last night after work and it only crashed once instead of seven times (like it did Tuesday); I can't remember exactly what I did, but after it crashed I went into currently installed programs and checked out the C++ stuff.  I noticed that I had 9 of them for some odd reason, but it was for 32, 64 and 80-something, with years 2010-2013 associated with it.  The 2013 C++ 64 (which matches my windows) was last used on 11/15/2014.  I clicked on it and it automatically updated and I was able to play for four hours (with about four cut scenes to boot) without it crashing.  I'm sure that doesn't make sense, but I can post screen caps of it when I get home (after testing it out again in case it decides to dash my hopes and crash again).
