Fortunately most of these issues are fixable.
The core of the games so far seems pretty intact and good (imho).
After 8 hours of playing, I'm disappointed

I don't want to repeat myself, but the scanner is not the only problem. The loot is not very visible to start with. Did you play DA2? What piece of loot in DA2 did you not see? It was all easily visible. Would it really have been that hard to do the same for DA: I? I want to spend my time playing the game, not squinting and rotating cameras to find the loot.
You don't need to be condescending when I'm trying to offer advice. Yes I have played DA:II. No I don't share your opinion.
Good luck to you.

The worst mechanic in the game literally is the loot scanning
Yeah, that is also a ridiculous mechanic.

The loot scanner is admitedly a bit annoying. They took a page from Witcher 2 here, and improved it a bit because at least we don't have to stand still and it has a short cooldown time, but good old pressing TAB to reveal items wouldn't be too much of a luxury. Oh well, minor complaint.

Ah, the first 8 hour. When I played with DA2 I want to finish it after 8 h.... But, I didn't and I am happy I don't. Yes, not the best game, but it was good for once.... Patience, my friend try a little more. DA2 loot... it was ugly, I really don't want to see anymore. Dx Good luck and (I hope) Have fun!
Off: Am I the only one who don't hate the Mako in Mass Effect? I hate the Tresher Maw.... really >.< (and Ashley)

Im not worried about loot scan at all since I refuse to grab all the weeds, rocks and other crap they literally pour at me

If people REALLY have so much issue with the PC controls, they can always just grab a USB controller and stick it in. Also, Origins was in no way perfect with side quests, most of them were completely irrelevant to the story and usually fetch quests.

You don't necessarily know they are weeds and rocks until you see them, and part of the problem is that even with the scan, you still can't see what it is some of the time - you could rotate the camera over and over and just not see what the hell the scanner is referring to. So you could be looking for 30-60 seconds only to discover the rock or weed and then realize it was a waste of time. This is why the items need to animate and have a noticeable, constrasting glow like the previous games did.
Showing the stuff on the minimap after a scan might also not be a bad idea either.

I agree RE: Origins. I kinda wonder if people really remember the non-critical quests in that game. They were fetch quests, or some variation thereof. And who cares? You need a reason to do **** in an RPG, and for the most part, you're going to be doing stuff for somebody else (the dreaded fetch quest) when you're not doing stuff for yourself (the storyline). So, what the hell?
But I don't agree that people ought to have to go buy a controller for their computer to enjoy their game. The keyboard/mouse interface could have been better. I don't really give a crap about the loot scanner because it's the same as the old tab key (and you can even map it to the tab key, whoopee!), except you have to spam it instead of holding it down. Whatever.
Also, hellbiter, I'm totally picking up what you're laying down in this thread. Keep up the good work!

Well my pc system doesn't allow me to easily play the game at all so it will be many months before I can. The upside to all that is, by then there'll be mods out making it more pc friendly and hopefully something to help with the loot scan stuff. You all are so lucky to be able to play! ![]()

I don't have a controller and I don't want to buy one for one game, on top of the 70 bucks I already spent for the game.

You could alter the keybinding and solve most of your problems - it's not that hard, and I do it all the time to adjust controls in games to my taste on the PC fairly regularly. Try playing an MMO without using keybindings as you level up, and you will quickly regret it once you have 16-20 abilities that you regularly use.
As for loot highlighting, gee, so many people wanted more realism! Well, I guess they got it because in the real world, piles of loot and plants do not actually sparkle and glitter to let you know that you can loot them. At any rate, I thought you could still use the tab key to highlight lootable items? If not, I guess that was outdated/inaccurate info.
Still, I'm pretty sure that since keybinding would probably sort out most of your issues, the loot scanning doesn't exactly seem like the end of the world. Didn't love planet scanning, but it also didn't bother me all that much, so I guess it probably won't be that annoying - still waiting for my CE, so I'll have to judge the annoyance level after it gets here, heh.

Origins has a crapton of fetch quests, I'm really not sure where this ''MMO inspired quests'' thing comes from.
Lothering had its Chanter's Board quests (kill those bears, then those bandits, gimme elfroot), and three other ''give me X things'' quests.
Redcliffe had all the quests to prepare for battle, which amiunted to ''go there, find X''
Brecilian Forest? Find my wife, play matchmaker, heal that Halla, fetch my acorn
Orzammar? Smuggle that lyrium, gimme gold for chantry, find my son, go tell the Circle I exist, find this book that proves my lineage, etc.
Circle of Magi had almost none, admitedly. It did have the Fade sction however.
And don't get me started on the many quests of Denerim (Slim Couldry, Master Ignacio), the Chanter's Boards, Blackstone Irregulars, Mage's Collective, and Favors for Interested Parties.
People speak of fetch quests like it was a new thing or that WoW invented it or whatever. It's been an RPG staple since the very first, and Dragon Age had a ton of them since the first game. At least those in Inquisition give you something beyond token amounts of useless gold.
well the difference is DA:O had like 15 fetch quests? DA:I has about 80%-90% fetch quests . DA:I really reminds me of a empty MMO you walk around collecting points of interest (like in a ubisoft game) can't talk to many people and you just walk from one uninteresting quest to another... anyone played GW2 when the server was empty? That's DA:I(but GW2 has more interesting skills and you can switch weapons in combat)

Except almost all of DA:O was a huge fetch quest? Honestly, I'll never understand the prescription on those rose tinted glasses needed to see DA:O as the gold standard all rpgs should be compared to, but then ignore the fact that it has all the problems you all complain about.

I read everything, but I need to come back to this:
This argument has many holes and I'll tell you why:
1) PC controls are fully adjustable, customize it however you want. For example, I binded tac cam to my space bar, and inverted the swivel.
2) The areas are absolutely enormous but you can pretty quickly dart from one objective to the next if you remain focused and undistracted.
3) Loot scanning automatically highlights all the loot easily, and actually doesn't require multiple scans.... in fact the range in your surrounding area is quite far. Certainly no less button pushing than TAB in prior games.
4) People are quick to judge a game feature they haven't fully explored, because there is an auto-attack. Granted, it's contingent on being in tactical camera mode, but you can essentially adjust the camera to any height or field of view you want very quickly once you've played around with it a little bit and understand how it works. I've found this to be preferred since I can simply enter this mode for any fight and not have to worry about continuously pressing buttons to get my character to attack. I just flip on the attack command, and watch the battle play out if I really want.
--------------------
The only thing I won't fight you on is the last part because I don't know what "paper dolls" even means. But I agree the Inventory UI needs a little work; particularly changing weapons out and comparing stats.
Sorry, but did you even play the game? 1) bullshit. 2) Uhm, nope. Even with a horse (that awesome mouse und keyboard support.. ffs.) the areas are just for time sinking. 3) Of course you need more if you have more loot!? Because there is no area loot, you just can't pick it up fast enough. Maybe you're a wizard, dunno. I can't.
4) Haha, you are really talking about the auto-attack? It might be fine for console players, but the overall movement and attacking with keyboard and mouse is pretty ****. Sorry BioWare, console port went pretty bad.

Uh.... #1 --> Keybindings
#2 ---> Learn to set navpoints
#3 ---> Use your looking eyes when you press the button
#4 ---> I'm explaining the feature exists, and explaining what I do in-game

Baldur's Gate was full of fetch quests. Fetch quests have been around since RPG's have been around. DA:O even took the mick out of killing giant rats it was such a RPG staple.
