Let's invite and ask some experts on walking what they think about it:
Obviously we NEED THIS urgently, in order to..."staying alive". I agree! ![]()

Why do i get the feeling that we aint getting walk with the keyboards, sure by now some one on the bioware staff would post ''Walk key is on its way just be patient'' but nooooooooooo no one even says such a thing, becouse they are not sure themselves.
Welcome to PC gaming, the step child of gaming...
Yes, we need walk button! I spent minutes in key bindings searching for walk toggle. What the hell???
Any news about when we will get a patch for this ? Don't they understand we want to play ?

Maybe they found it puzzeling that people really stop playing because of this, waiting for a patch.
But that would only mean that not a single PC player is left among the employees of Bioware. Which would be sad, very sad.

Well, truth is: I don't want to spoil my game experience with this; and as far as I know myself, I'd be trying to enjoy the game for some hours, but would ultimately give up out of annoyance of this tiny, little, nagging issue and would uninstall the game for good. (Yeah, I'm weird like that)
So, I wait. For a patch to fix this. If it comes, great, I can continue to play. If it doesn't come, also great, since I saved a lot of frustrating play time before coming to the conclusion that I cannot a game with that issue. So, I'm weird, but efficient at it. ![]()
I got refund just because of this. Fix game plz.
Please, it seems like such a small thing, but this is a real issue for me. Please fix this. Running everywhere is horrible.
It's not a small issue, it's a major issue. Like driving to drive a car with 3 wheels. "Oh but it's just one wheel, it should be fine". Errr, no.
You need to immerse yourself with the world and without decent controls you simply can't. I still can't gain a sense of direction ingame either and with certain areas where you can't use the map I find myself lost and out of tune. This is essential to player experience.
There is a video at YT from Bioware, in the title something about "build by pc gamers for pc gamers". If you wanna laugh (or cry) go watch it.
Yes, I watch that video and I want to punch someone in the face.
Based on the posts by Bioware on the PC community concerns thread, it would seem that this issue was an "oversight", even though they had PC gamers in their team.
If that is the case then I would recommend they either:
1) Encourage more of a mix of generation X and Y gamers for their QA team, I can't imagine ANY previous generation gamers such as myself not spotting this issue sooner. For generation Y or Z however I can see how it would be an oversight - they don't know better, besides they can just plug in a gamepad. Old school gamers like myself, pure PC gamers - may not be able to use gamepads effectively (I know I sure can't)
2) Use a closed beta pre-release to squish bugs and allow feedback so their games won't recieve so much backlash (Seriously if they did this on ME3 and delayed it, it would have avoided such a PR disaster)

You do realize that unless you got a refund directly from Origin, you're only hurting yourself, right?
Returning your game to a retailer does nothing to spite Bioware.

Truth is, they did not and do not have PC gamers in their team, or this would NEVER have been such a sh*t storm.
Not trying to troll or anything, but is this really that big of an issue? Whenever there is a walk toggle in games I mess around with it for the first 5 minutes and get bored. I just want to go from A to B and I really don't care for walking because it is extremely inefficient. It's not even like the character doing that weird "Tom Cruise run". I think the run is just perfect, because it's fast enough that you can opt out of mounts (which I do) but no so fast as to be crazy immersion breaking.
It messes with immersion everytime a situation would - to one who actually tries to roleplay that is - demand walking. Like when I'm presented as the herald of Andraste right at the start of the game, the crowd gathered. So I step out and...run. *head --> table*
Or when you're in an interior or dungeon and walk through a small room. But you're not walking, you're running. If they really meant it they should've added some "slams into the wall with full speed, smashing the face" animation, at least that would've been funny. xD For a while...
It is, and walking isn't just for getting from A to B it's for immersion. We want to feel part of the world, running around like a goof during a party standing out like a sore thumb isn't immersive and breaks the whole ROLE-PLAYING experience. Not only that, but your character should feel like your right hand, for the controls to feel immersive. Now imagine your hand can't precisely move where you want it to go, that's exactly what it feels like playing DA:I without a walk function.
Not only that, but running around also robs you of gaining a sense of direction and location. In a game where one area has multiple routes being forced to run around destroys any hope of getting a sense of your immediate environment.
Can somebody at Bioware at least say something? Get an ETA or why the fact that adding a control mechanism for animations that are already in the game is taking so long? I mean i pre-ordered this and I can't continue until this is patched, and I'm dying to play this game.
On the PC community thread someone from Bioware did make a comment and they responded positively to the idea of a walk toggle. All we can do is wait unfortunately, just how it is.

Yes, they respond, but it is always cryptic. What happened to simply being truthful and up-front with customers?
It is this approach of saying something and at the same time absolutely nothing, that angers people the most.
I think we can safely go bonkers if the first patch comes out and still no walk function.
For now I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they're hard at work fixing issues so we can get a patch ASAP. I'm like that, I'm nice ![]()
Still my patience would definitely be tested if this feature isn't implemented ASAP considering console gamers/anyone who uses a gamepad can walk so it's an easy enough change for PC accessibility. I just hope it is, I want to get off this forum darn it!

I was watching my girlfriend play with a controller over the weekend, and her character was walking and I was greeeeen with envy!

I find the notion of cassifying players who role-play by their choice of movement quite hilarious. It's a game, you can't pick your nose, you can't brush sweat from your brow, you can't slap an NPCs @ss. To me roleplaying is acting as my character would in situations that require different approaches. I find it hard to imagine that running into a room and walking into a room are something I would roleplay. If the situation demands walking then I would walk with ALL my characters, thus rendering it's roleplay value close to zero.

Alright, let's give you an example then of something that may be a little less hilarious to you:
The practicality of being able to traverse a dungeon with less speed in order to navigate with more ease and miss less loot or points of interest. Or avoid falling off a cliff when trying to pick up a shard.
Now it may not be relevant to YOU that some people want to WALK through a certain situation in order to immerse themselves in the intended atmosphere, or walk cautiously through a dark cave, but why are you making the effort to mock people for wanting that level of immersion?
If it is not important to you to be able to walk your character through small interior spaces, then great! But we don't all enjoy playing our game like this. To some of us it is a very real immersion breaker. Savvy?
