I'm hopeful we'll get it in the first patch, but I'm always optimistic. Maybe it won't be in the first patch, but the second..or third...
Regardless this situation sucks. I had to resort to switching between M+K and Controller for my first playthrough. M+K for mostly everything but then switching to controller when casual situations arised and I NEEDED to walk. It's amazing how many PC gamers don't have issue with sprinting all over the place in an RPG like this.
It's seriously one of the most immersion breaking things you can do in an RPG.

Only PC gamers special enough they can afford a controller can slow down and enjoy the countryside...

I hope it's in the first patch, too. And that that patch is next week. Or at least we get a timetable of some sort. lol. I'm tempted to try with a controller but I'd rather wait until at least the first patch to start playing, hoping to dodge some bugs.
About switching between M/K and controller - do you have to change the input settings every time you switch? Does that require exiting to the main menu?

I was definitely disappointed that they did not include this in the PC version. It's such a small thing and someone over at bioware must have realised that the demand is there.

I'm angry. It could be such a great game, but it just lacks some fundamental things that make RPGs work. This is one of them.

Yeah, they totally forgot it over their pro-pc-marketing-campaign. xD

Yup, had to go to the main menu.
It was a pain in the ass but I'd prefer that to not walking.
I hate controllers but I don't mind using the joysticks to walk so I'd only use them when there were non-combat situations.

Well that sucks.
Here's hoping we get walk toggle in the first patch.

I will not play with a controller. I'm a PC gamer, not a console gamer.

Bioware: We have PC gamers too and they have no problems, so I don't know what you are talking about... *plays with controller*

I'm kinda sick of trying to climb walls and jump across gaps whilst still running....I want to be able to walk along a high wall that's taken me 5 minutes to climb up without running off the edge and having to do it all again to get to a shard etc.

But yeah, PC patch on the 9th, other patches in validation with MS/Sony most likely, no fault of Bioware on that one, so very soon folks. No news on what's exactly been fixed, but this is the best news we've come across thus far.

How much should we bet that a walk button won't be in first patch?
Unfortunately I don't think Bioware sees it as a very important issue, and will likely take their time putting it out, despite how simple it would be to fix.

If not Patch 2, it sounds like it'll be addressed in the next one.

I have to agree it was one of the early things i noticed missing, and wish I had a lot in some of the smaller rooms, and when picking up items ( Tap, Tap, Tap Finally I can pick it up ) Oop's I ran past it ![]()
I remember I could mouse over something across the field in the other Versions of DA and click on it, and My character would run over there and pick it up, no problem. Now I have to be right on top of it, and the dooors say open, when I am not close enough... Took me awhile to get use to that :/
