Haha immersion and rping ...so overrated!

You need the walk button for exploring and having to navigate at tigh spaces. Positioning yourself and trying not to fall of a cliff or something is really annoying here in this game.

Stormpyre's post explains it quite well, and I'm under a similar understanding of the situation.

We had a small discussion about it here:

http://forum.bioware...ncerns/page-267

Besides, Mark on twitter mentioned they had to pull it from patch 2 due to issues which a member had already guessed on the above thread. Either way I'm sure we can expect it for patch 3.

Useful, thanks!

However, they failed to implement a CORE gameplay feature for PC gamers over a period of 3 years in development! Frostbite was never meant to be able to deal with 4-legged creatures, and yet they managed to get that working (because they absolutely had to have mounts for example - nothing more than a marketing gimmick that turned out to be absolutely useless in the game). I'm no programmer, but I would say that something like that should be much much harder to do than a simple trigger for walk/run.

This yet again proves beyond any doubt that the entire PC version of this game was a lazy afterthought amidst the lie about it being the lead platform for the game.

And THAT is what angers me the most!

And then there is not a single dev with the guts to face their fans.... that's just pathetic!

Okay I get it, gamepad input is not the same as keyboard input (who knew, right?). Isn't it still a bit stupid to optimze the controls for gamepad even on the pc and then talking about "keeping a pc legacy" in the promotion video? Maybe "stupid" is the wrong word. How about "dastardly"?

What's done is done though I guess, it's quite sad, and my time off to play the game is soon over. Shame that alot of it was spent on this forum instead of the game. Should have planned my holiday next year during March.

Well when the game is to be released on 5 platforms and pc players being able to use pad as well, they seem to have tossed kb+mouse design to the bottom of "things to do list"

And when we're being totally honest and reasonable, then this makes sense.

BUT...then they made this pc features video and praised how good it was adapted to the platform. They simply lied to us (possibly to themselves).

I am really dissapointed to see that the latest patch didn't bring the two most requested features: walking and character appearance editor. :(

Excuse me but i had a question,

Can someone explain me what is this "party banter problem" a lot of people have ? As i haven't played because of this walking problem, i would like to know if i will encounter it. And as i am not an excellent english speaker i don't understand what it is...

I have not encountered it once I don't think - then again, I always play with Origin offline (which some have reported to cause the issue) so I don't know.

Since patch 2 however I've noticed companions ARE talking abit more however, but maybe I just got lucky - who knows?

Just in case Bioware is still slightly uncertain about making the effort to add a walk toggle to this amazing game...

Last night I decided "OK let me give them the benefit of a doubt" and I plugged in my XBOX controller and played the game for about 2 hours like that.

Now, for most part, playing this way feels absolutely rubbish to me compared to using KB&M. I feel completely disconnected from the game, the combat is about 100 times LESS visceral, accessing potions and menu options feel like a chore being used to pressing a single button to down a potion or accessing my journal or map or whatever, on KB....and those nasty big XBOX button prompts? No thanks! Talking about being in your face....FUGLY as hell!

I really really tried to find the positives in using this controller, but I simply can't do it. Some games (Like Assassins Creed) feels natural using a controller (on PS3 anyway as far as my experience goes), but DAI simply does not! I sat there feeling like I am no longer playing Dragon Age, but instead some generic fantasy game. It is just my opinion, but it completely changes my gaming experience and not in a positive way.

But there was ONE thing: being able to WALK! OMG!!! Being able to just slow the f*ck down is like coming up for air after nearly drowning. This tiny little inconspicuous action makes a MASSIVE DIFFERENCE! Why oh why can the CREATORS of the game not understand that fully, enough to have made sure it is properly implemented at launch?

It really is the one thing that will make or break this game for me. Should Bioware come back and say they are not adding the Walk toggle for KB&M, I will simply complete the game and uninstall it from my PC.

But if this function IS added, I will be playing this game again and again and again.....until the next one swings around.

PLEASE, BIOWARE! Make this happen! It is a VITAL part of the gaming experience!

You're lucky, I have never owned a console, nor can I play with a controller - my attempts always fail miserably at mates' houses, and no intention to get one - so I have never experienced walking except for that one standout scene pre-Skyhold where you walk for 5 seconds.

Oh well, at least we know it's on the way.

It is truly glorious! Let's hope we get it soon....

You know how when you aren't in combat, your party members talk to each other?

For some people, they NEVER TALK, and since some quests depend on these talks, people are getting frustrated.

Oh i see, you mean you walk around and they discuss... I understand how frustrating it should be. As far as i know they do it in my game but not so much

The only people who banter for me are Bull and Varric or Bull and Solas, but they're always the same conversations!!! I took Sera,Dorian and Cassandra with me and they had nothing to say for themselves ....which means I never get past trying to get her to talk about her brother, she just says no,another time perhaps.

Bit OT but does the romance with Josephine ever progress beyond her taking me to the garden for a kiss????? If not she's getting dumped for Sera as I bet she's a right little vixen ;)

I really hope they work out these issues. I don't care if it's a toggle or hold to walk...As long as I can walk while using my Keyboard and Mouse.

I hope they can figure it out before the next patch...and that next patch is before christmas. I too find it hard that a major AAA game developer is having so much trouble implementing a very simple function, but oh well. As long as they don't give up on it.

Adding my voice to this. I've been holding off starting the game because of the constant sprint-mode, which is a shame because I really like what I've seen of it so far.

This would make that one quest in the Hinterlands where you have to walk around the statue a whole lot easier!

Hey guys, I've been a pretty vocal about getting a walk toggle and improving PC controls - which I still think they should be for those who need it. BUT  I ddin't want anymore so I bought a 360 controller, plugged it into my PC to try and oh hell how good it felt - the game feels amazing with a controller, and I wouldn't switch back even if they fixed every issue with the PC controls. The only thing is if you play on higher difficulty the tactical cam is still a bit clunky sometimes, but if you're like me, playing on normal, without using the tactical cam very often I really recommend you to just try it if you can. I completely changed my mind, and perhaps you will too. Game of the year easily for me, havent enjoyed myself this much in a long time. Just a tip for you, hope it enlightens somebody else too.

To everyone else, good luck, I hope everything get's patched soon.

There are only two ways for me to ever get good enough in this game with a controller:

  1. Training, training, training. Stop enjoying the actual game and use it as a training simulator
  2.  turning down the difficulity to medium or easy

Both would ruin the game for me. But hey, on the bright side, I'd be ready for the next Dragon Age game.

I don't have a whole lot of time to keep up with the many threads on BSN, but if there are any updates on this matter or the matter of the third patch, an update on this thread would be greatly appreciated by me and others I'm sure!
