Guess using Frostbite 3 does have some drawbacks afterall, mh, BiowarEA?
(Hint: you would likely not have these problems if you had used the Unreal Engine like in the Mass Effects... plus UE4 can actually do decent hair. *snickers*)

Someone find a way to "trigger" that action for mouse+keybard user since it was already coded for gamepad on pc.

I was waiting for something like this. The final straw that shows the sheer incompetence of a developer, beaten by modders. -.-

I HAVE to see this... *downloading*
EDIT: Tested and working ![]()
An unofficial walk toggle on an "unmoddable" engine that the developers themselves are having so much trouble with.

Hurrah!!! A thousand thanks for this! I have more faith in modders than the actual devs! Great work.

It seems a bit complicated though and if it's some kind of memory hack there is no way to tell its longtime influence on savegames or the game in general.
What it does though - and I'm not an expert, but it strongly seems that way - is trivial. It limits the input the game receives to under the threshold for running. Same as if the thumbstick is only pushed halfway.
Why can't Bioware do this?
This is so stupid and frustrating.

For those who wish to map the C key to something else:
1) Open the script, and find this number:
</AssemblerScript>
<Hotkeys>
<Hotkey>
<Action>Toggle Activation</Action>
<Keys>
<Key>67</Key>
</Keys>
<ID>0</ID>
</Hotkey>
</Hotkeys>
2) Change this number to whatever you want your key to be here using this reference:
http://www.mods.com....l Key Codes.htm
For e.g., I wanted Z to be my toggle button so I changed 67 to 90.

Well apparently they said "serious issues", "state change", etc etc... lol
I'll play for a few hours after work and see how "serious" these issues actually are, as I tested it in dialogue (no problem) as well as combat (automatically runs), so no problems thus far.

Thanks! Works like a charm. The game is much more enjoyable now.

I gave this a quick try and even tried to break it, looking if it can mess up my savegame:
I started and used the cheat engine, then disabled it with the "walking" still active and the game running. Ingame I was still only walking with no possibility to turn it off, since the cheat-engine was disabled.
In this "broken" state I created a new savegame. I exited the game and started it again. I loaded up the savegame and everything was normal. I was able to run around with keyboard and only that.
So the cheat-engine seems to only influence the current active memory and nothing of it goes into the savegame. It is harmless as much as I can tell.
No guarantee though and I'd so like Bioware to pick this up and implement it before christmas. I realize this chance is slim to zero. Sucks.

Very well done script if that's the case, I'm going to start my Qunari over (thankfully I saved right after character gen) and immerse myself fully since I've forgotten about my main thus far waiting for the bloody patch. All this kinda makes the situation a bit of a joke, a whole team is struggling with the engine and implementing basic walking on PC... that one person manages to do with a mod lol.

Can someone explain how this works? I followed the tutorial on the first page and can't get it to work.
Do I need to launch the game through cheat engine or something?
Edit: Nevermind I figured it out. Awesome.
Now I just need bioware to get this upcoming patch out with a real version and a performance fix. I'm still in shock at how much they damaged performance(980, 4820k) in the latest patch.

You are gorgeous and so are the modders who made it. I was actually thinking the other day 'I hope they add a walk toggle to cheatengine'. ^^

Had a go last night, the mod works flawlessly. Abit of lag with its response from time to time, but it has made a WORLD of difference!

Posté 22 décembre 2014 - 06:54
Agreed. I played for three hours straight with it. No problems despite the lag in response sometimes, which also means that it seldomly does not switch off and you need to hit the button a second time.
Best part is the auto-switch-off when a fight starts. But I guess that's a game mechanism, as you simply cannot walk - even with a gamepad - during a fight. It just shows how the game is basically ready to receive the walk feature on pc, everything is in place, even the damn walk itself via gamepad. It is by lack of determination it isn't in, not by lack of technical possibilities, I'm sure of it now. ![]()

Exactly! Really makes you wonder, doesn't it... For Bioware, it is something "really problematic" to implement on an engine they have 4 years experience with. Not to mention that they also have direct support from DICE - the people who built the engine.
And still, they can't get it working more than a bloody month after release?! And then we get modders with 3rd part tools being able to implement it within weeks or days
(don't know how long they tried before succeeding)
I call serious b*ll sh*t on that one, Bioware! It is beyond belief! Nah, I think they simply dropped the ball and am making lame excuses.
But now I can't help but wonder if Bioware may throw in the towel with their efforts to give us a properly optimized game for PC...I would not be the least surprised if they have the attitude of "let the modding community do it then". Guess we'll see...

If the cheatengine modders could also "fix" it so the ability menu isn't locked for reassigning abilities during combat if they did then it would also alleviate some of the worst problems with the 8 ability slot restriction (really only 6 since having barrier is almost mandatory and you need to have one focus ability on there too in order to gain any focus at all).
The final item would probably be adding a script to manually trigger party banter by making the random number come up correctly and allowing us to bypass the banter bug and/or the really rotten random number generator controlling it.
If these two things could "fixed' by cheatengine as well than the modders, not Bioware, will have corrected the most glaring and troubling issues, aside from the underoptimized UI that I have with this game. .

I'd love to use this mod, but I get really weird behavior in-game if I alt tab even once. Flickering textures and depending on the scene I'm viewing the fps sometimes drops from 60 (capped with vsync) to 30. Isn't anyone else experiencing this?
I play on fullscreen (as fullscreen windowed gives worse fps) with the game's own vsync and triple buffering. I also tried forcing them from the nvidia control panel, but that gives me screen tearing.

Can I anti-sign? One of the most useless features ever. If even 5 seconds is devoted to adding this as opposed to fixing the numerous other graphical, gameplay, and technical errors it will be a mistake.

I was also able to (finally!) take some screenshots without any UI intruding on the picture and walk around Skyhold while wearing armor not PJs.
Glad we're getting support from *somewhere* if not the devs.
