Same, imagine what a lousy port they did if they can't put walk toggle for keyboard in they're own game. It's tragic.

Aparently Bioware did it: http://blog.bioware....-patch-3-notes/
The funny part is, that they're still ONE STEP BEHIND the scripter who managed to give us walking AND jogging before christmas. Keep it up Bioware, one day you will probably master your own code. One day...

Signed.
We need a walk toggle for PC.
Having just finished my first playthrough, I really missed the RPG immersiveness of being able to walk when running was not needed. I realize it might seem to be a rather small thing, but to those of us who have signed this post in the hopes of having it, clearly this is not trivial to us.
Unrelated to the walk/run toggle, my quickie review would be:
Positives:
Many more than what I have listed here...
Thanks for the overwhelming amount of content, the game world is much larger than I expected.
The graphics were excellent, including the landscapes, armor and weapons models, and very well-done work by level designers.
Much better crafting system than Origins (I admit I never bought nor played DA2 after the demo, don't know what crafting was in it, DA2 demo was ... just... too.... painful).
Great voice-over by all fo the actors. And there was much rejoicing. Yaaayyy...
Negatives:
Few, and most (but not all) of them are not critical...
Constantly seeing characters' teeth when they are not talking is... weird. Call me OCD, but it just looks wrong. The sync of the voice-over is also off. DA:O was better than this. I suspect this is just game engine limitations though.
Really needs the same PC mouse+keyboard control UI that Origins had (constant clicking on targets had me focusing too much of my attention on my current target and not having enough time to make tactical assessments and check-in's on my companions).
Maybe I am the only one who hates this, but really hate having to traipse around the wilderness for hours just trying to find a path to climb a hill or such. It's not fun, really, and more than that... there is nothing rewarding enough to support the effort. I work for a living, time is precious, my precious, and if I am going to waste it climbing hills or mountains I want something worth that time and effort.
Bugs... I almost broke my keyboard over 3 hours straight when my companions kept tripping-up the Temple of Mythal puzzle tiles (when I order my companions to HOLD position... they better damn well HOLD position). Other bugs exist, but this one was the absolute worst for me, the other were tolerable.
The music/banter bug. Thanks to those who discovered that travel only via the war room table solved this. Because it does, despite what any devs might say to the contrary (even if it is not by design, it plays much more immersively with the music and banter happening more frequently that travel via war room table provides).
Uhm... the Hissing Wastes do not appear on my war room table world map, only way to travel there is from another locale. Odd.
Some of the spell and elemental graphics effects in combat were too dominant... at times I could not even see my opponents which made it difficult to determine next tactical moves, let alone missing out on some of the combat weapon graphics.
I really miss the finishing moves from Origins; I think a hybrid model could be included where some of them would not take so long to complete (as in get rid of the bullet-time, and avoid lengthy moves) but still provide the thrill of a big kill.
My favourite moves from DA:O were two-handed sunder and pommel strike moves, those I do miss in this game. Yes, I know we have pommel strike but the character moves at light-speed when doing it, sort of lose immersiveness there...
Really though, I am nitpicking on most of my gripes beyond the combat UI, and Oh yeah, a WALK toggle would really be great...

Now I am challenged... so I want to start my second playthrough now... or do I want to play more DA:O? Damn that is a tough one....

The only problem is that I and over 2000 others (so many downloads did the latest version of the walk script accumulate) already got used to be able to walk and jogg for over a month now. Call me ungrateful, but I'm not impressed with Biowares work. I would probably not ****** as much had they not bragged about the pc version so loudly prior to releasing the game...

For me it's not the jogging, its having BOTH toggle AND hold functions.
Bethesda have always implemented good ideas into their patches; Large Address Aware, FreeLC with Hi-Res Textures. And even Skyrim incorporated many Oblivion mods; companions, visual change with harvesting, etc etc.
Bioware... *sigh*
Sure, I'm happy Bioware is finally releasing the walk function after over two months. However, like Godzilla, I'm just not impressed. If the patch has other fixes to the PC controls such as mouse look/ mouse button rebinding / option to disable tactical camera automatic angle change / tactical camera zoom / tactical camera functions such as reviving to work / queuing of actions to compensate for the removal of AI tactics / hold functions to work without teleporting/bugs... then ok, I would be more impressed.
However, my attention is now shifted to the modding community completely to fix the PC controls before TW3 comes out.

Well, it's still a victory. They recognised that the absence of walk toggle is a problem and fixed it. Which means this unfortunate situation won't happen again with new BioWare games (hopefully).

Anyone having a bug where if they hit whatever they set as the key for walk toggle, you're unable to stop walking?
Kind of ironic, now that I can walk...it bugs and wont let me stop walking.

BTW...the walk script / mod still works flawlessly as far as I can tell. Just saying...this is pure satire.
Nah seriously, not funny I know, but satire is meant to be biting after all. *duck & cover*

Ok they added walk toggle, but when you toggle on walk, sprint does nothing.. Like in multiplayer.. i guess its kindve the same thing, but.. Used to walk, run, and sprint..
I give up!

So we can still use the mod? Just jogging isn't working in walk mode?
Thanks for beta testing folks, I'm holding off the patch for a week at least until I have more info. Just have to shut down my net to play.

Good job Bioware! You added in toggle walk but it doesn't even ****** work unless you have to play at 30fps. ****** liars. "Made by PC gamers" my ****** ass.

You can safely patch. The new walk-toggle in patch 3 is disabled by default (the key is unbound). So you can simply ignore it.
And then continue using the walk-script because it works exactly like it used to be.

Even if you do bind a key (like Alt) to the walk toggle feature in-game, the mod still overrides it. Because it is superior in performance and features.

So... Bioware's walking function having a simple walk toggle, confirmed...
2flower's walking toggle + hold to walk + jogging mod still working flawless in patch 3, confirmed...
Saw a post on the community thread, a suggestion to Bioware to add a hold to walk/run function in their toggle, *sigh*
They had a chance to impress the community, why didn't they take it? Maddening!

The reason they didn't is because they don't care enough about their fans or their game for that matter. They have become complacent because look at all the GOTY awards coming in....why make an effort?

I sure hope its not the case of their own hubris.
If it is the case, they definitely should play their own game, cause... what is the most powerful demon in DA Bioware? Yup, what demon?

Well, I can confirm the Patch 3 walking 'fix' is still broken. If you implement the framerate fix to deal with cut scenes stuttering and crashing, all the walk 'toggle' does is lock you into always walking (INCLUDING IN COMBAT) until you leave the area, when it resets to always running.

Does the framerate fix really counteract crashing? Never heard that before. I thought this was just to let cutscenes play out more smoothly.
I think everyone should be aware that Bioware recommended not to use it, since animations are tied to framerate in cutscenes. People still use it, but at their own risk. It is not supported.
I know that isn't very helpful, Bioware needs to fix cutscenes actually stuttering and if crashes happen they also need to fix that. Still, the framerate fix is a workaround, not an actual fix and they will never actually support it, hence they probably also wont fix problems associated with it.
