UNDER INVESTIGATION??? There is nothing to investigate, this get it done! I am no programmer, but I am pretty sure this would take a "Competent" coder no more than an hour to implement.
It's a stupidly lazy oversight that should never have happened, Bioware!
They probably assigned the task of Pc controls to a junior developer who has no experience playing previous DA games. and by doing this....by giving us a pathetically flawed PC control set, the ENTIRE GAME EXPERIENCE is ruined to hell!
This gets me so angry because it is like running a marathon, being in first place and 10 feet before the winning line, decides to stop to take a dump.
I agree the phrasing is kind of annoying but you gotta understand, Mike can't just say "Yep! That'll be in a patch for sure!" He's not necessarily the one to make those decisions. As simple as it seems, everything that goes into a patch for a game like this has to go through internal testing and get 'certified' that it's okay to go in the patch. At least that's how I understand the process goes from following many different developers over the years.
It definitely will be an easy fix, because it's there for consoles and has been in both past games. Lets keep this thread going so it doesn't lose attention and hopefully they'll add it in eventually.

It is mind bewildering that we even have to complain about things like this...
Indeed.
Oh look, an epic moment in the game....I'll just run through here like a head-less chicken. Yeah, that'll ruin it every time!
I can handle clunky controls, even a broken Tac cam, but this here - THE INABILITY TO WALK IN AN RPG GAME - totally insane!
I've been playing it on PC since release day, and I'm pretty sure 'G' has always been the walk toggle. At the very least, it is working right now.

Wait, WHAT? Are you saying there is a walk toggle? O_o
Nope, "G" is for auto-run, not walk toggle.
Well, I have been posting in this and related threads since midnight on the release date and I'm kind of sorry to say that after computer gaming since 1977, I just went out and bought my first ever gamepad!
And know I realize how much better the PC interface could have been! (well I knew that since I have played through ALL the Bioware games (and the Bethesda, and 2K and, and...)
Anyway, I really hope this gets patched up soon. I know patches take a lot of testing if the company wants to keep its reputation (oh, did I say that I am a coder? - actually I'm a hardware engineer who spends 80% of my time writing firmware and software for the hardware I design).

Ugh!
Agreed.
Not the end of Thedas, but would be nice to have.

Some people seem to be happy with running through the entire game.
but this is a BIG ISSUE for me. The very first thing I always do when starting a new RPG or any 3rd person game, is figure out the walk/run toggle key - and DAI is the very first game I have played that does not have that option.
So yeah, it really is the end of Thedas.
This thread needs to get sitcky'd.
Another +1. Seems awkward to do a 20m dash into every casual conversation.
I once swore that I would never play an RPG on PC that has no "walk" button. Well...I guess in the case of DAI I would make an exception, but it is still disappointing to see this feature missing from a game that allegedly received special attention for the PC version...
Please Bioware, pimp my DAI! ![]()
Yes, I very much want a walk toggle for PC. I make heavy use of walk toggles in every game I play. In Bioware games, they should really be an expected, standard feature at this point.
When watching the pre-launch twitch streams, I was really impressed with the walking animation, too. I couldn't believe it when I heard that the PC version had no walk toggle.

Huge deal for me as well.
I'm just really surprised absolutely no one at Bioware was like hey I bet PC gamers like to walk too, lets give em a button to do so!

I completly understand your position. We all have different opinions. I do want a walk option, just not as much as some. For me if the SLI support was bad, that would be a big issue for me. I am sure most users would not care. May be SLI vs Walk is like comparing apples and oranges, but that is my thing.
I fully support this. Running is tiring. It is not the default mode of movement. If I go on a long journey I will probably walk.
Since running takes more effort and concentration than walking there should, if anything, be a "hold this to run" button rather than making walking a chore.
Just noticed that PC Gamer has brought this issue up in an article, which is great news for us. The more attention we bring to this issue, the more likely Bioware will add a walk button in a patch, and sooner too.
For the sake of myself, and everyone who has posted, I'm gonna keep this thread alive and up top to make sure there is attention brought to it. Spread the word, send this thread to people who care. The more people that we get, the more likely we'll have a walk button/toggle.

Here's the text in case anyone wants to read it. c: I don't know who this Tyler Wilde person is but they seem like a real mensch.
And here's the link to the article. Nice work keeping the thread up top and hot, everyone. Viva la walk toggle!

I could cope with sprinting past my worshippers, barely. I could cope with sprinting down into dark, creepy caves. But now that I've found some really gorgeous zones, I desperately need the walk button. Almost tempted to just stop playing until its implimented, however long that may be. I wish Bioware gave us a touch more information on the subject ;_;.
2 things I need for awesome screenshots/gifs:
- Walk toggle
- Hide UI button
Amazing Origins and DA2 had both, yet not the greatest looking environments.... Whereas Inquisition...
'The **** is goin on.....
