Wait there's no walk toggle???

Huh, I actually feel a bit better about not having the game yet now... It's such a small thing, but such a huge rp feature to me.

Maybe if I'm really lucky they'll have patched it in when my new computers ready and I can actually play the game.

To be honest, the game seems grossly unfinished as the PC version has innumerable amount of bugs (some are game breaking; I won't spoil).

The whole control system has gone FUBAR.

  • There is no auto-attacking
  • No Right click movement to object/person/action
  • There is this "pain in the rear" ping-scan to identify loots/objects
  • Inventory system is a mess
  • Crafting/modification sounds GREAT in theory; its implementation is bugged (in few areas).
  • Tactical view has become a nightmare for me in the closed arenas. And camera is cranky at best.

I am not gonna talk about the graphical glitches - it's all over the internet now!

My fingers ache, after playing for a while.

My suggestion DO NOT buy PC version, go for the console versions; Bioware has optimized the game for the consoles, specifically; the pc-fans are the neglected ones. Judging by the attitude of the devs and publishers - I am not exactly expecting any patch/updates anytime soon!!!

So many people citing the tac cam as a problem.....

I really wish they had been reading the forums back in Aug when they announced it. I and many others talked about how pointless it was on PC. Lo a behold, they could have totally scrapped it and had way less to deal with now.

I know there's a tech somewhere trying to convince his team lead "It's still a good idea"

Agreed.  And it would be nice to be able to click on something, and interact with it, loot it, talk to it...but NOT shoot it automatically, unless already in combat.

Unfortunately I just opened an other thread with a similar topic (I searched the Forums for "hold & right & mouse &button" etc.)

However. I`d really like such an Option. Right now I created an option to have this featue with "Autohotkey" - the problem is, that this woraround naturally interferes with the right mouse button for any interaction with the world.

Anyhow if you are interested in the Autohotkey workaround:

Download Autohotkey and create and run the following script:

F1::Click Down Right ;Press F1 to hold down RMB

F2::Click Up Right; Press F2 to release RMB

Of course you can Substitute F1 & F2 through any other key you like.

Best regards

After playing a bit into the game, I start to really miss the walk feature. Plus it is not only needed in terms of immersion. No one at Bioware could honestly tell me he played the game with mouse and keyboard in one of the smaller interior places. Like the one in the tutorial when you take the mountain path, then there is an old cleared out building.

Being in a room, 3 x 3 m wide, it is unbelievable stupid to RUN. I expected to smash from one wall into the other because that's what normally would happen. We need walking.

Then finally, after awaking in Haven, going outside through the people standing there...there is the immersion-factor again. I don't want to run through there, I wanna walk. Oh this might actually make me stop playing. Damn. :(

Add me to the list of people longing for a walk toggle.

When I started playing the game, I was (and still am) amazed at all the new possibilities for character creation. I mean, the scar feature is amazing, I spend two hours only tweaking my character's scars and those were two very enjoyable hours. The first cutscene was beautiful (great face textures, best looking skin I've seen in a game!), wonderful lighting.

Then, I step out in to the daylight, see the beautiful scenery and start to move... And stop, because my character is running, even though she's just been sitting in a cramped position locked in a cell for hours (?) and before that, she's been hurled around. I'd imagine you'd be a little sore after that ordeal. I check the keyboard setting, it says there's a walk/run-toggle - relieved I return to the game. The toggle doesn't work (apparently it's only used for mounts). I change the keyboard setting (maybe there's something wrong with my keyboard?). Still doesn't work. Realizing the amount of handholding practized in modern games, I think: Maybe I'm just not there yet. The game wants to teach me it's features on it's own time, maybe I'll be allowed to walk after it has shown me how to move or fight or told me that stuff I pick up goes to the inventory.

So, I start running, run all the way to the first boss fight (thinking all along how stupid it is to run on a narrow frozen mountain path or in a possibly trapped and dangerous dungeon). Then I awake in the village, the prologue is over... and I still can't walk. This was the point when I stopped playing and started looking on the internet.

As others have said, DA:O and DA2 had a walk-toggle, ME1 had it, ME2 had no toggle, but at least you could keep a button pressed to walk, you could walk in ME3 (not sure if it was a toggle at the moment, but you could walk). You can walk in games like Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, and also in Baldur's Gate, the Fallout series and Planescape. And you can walk in DA:I, you just have to use the "right" platform. :(

So here I am, really hoping that this will be adressed as soon as possible. Please, please Bioware, fix this. Even though creating characters is great fun in this game, I sure would like to let them out to play in the sun at some point. Gotta show those amazing scars to the NPCs!

It's starting to get more annoying the longer I play. Every interior location is rediculous. It's always like my charakters gets ready to start a sprint, then stops dead after one or two meters. She's "walking" like this through the houses, the tavern, everywhere. Stupid, stupid, stupid! -.-

Basically signed up to add more support to this, and a plethora of other issues. Between my character constantly wanting to book it everywhere and getting a negligible amount of party banter, I've decided to stop playing this game at the moment because it's killing my immersion. Hopefully they get that patch wheeled out soon and are able to address most of our concerns as there's likely a rather fantastic game hiding beneath some of the annoyances and bugs.

Thanks for taking the time to say something. I hope it helps!

Not that I've heard. I hope there will be at least an update Monday or Tuesday, but who knows? I'd expect to see any news on a PC patch here.

Signed.

Let me know once you patched it in; will continue the game then. Not fun or immersive when always running...

getting a negligible amount of party banter,

Is this a bug or something on the PC version? I feel like I hardly ever get banter, yet watching a friend play on PS4 I hear it quite often.

I absolutely adore the game, but as all of you are saying, it is incredibly immersion breaking. I've stopped playing the game now, just to wait for a walk patch, and it sucks to not being able to put the free time I have into it right now!

Personally I would like 3 different, run, jog and walk, or in a perfect world, being able to scroll to increase walking momentum. Either way, I hope this gets fixed very soon!

Would also be awesome to be able to draw my weapon without attacking.

Thanks for the game Bioware, with som of this added I'll finally be willing to return to Thedas.

Sure, different paces would be awsome, especially with scrolling to increase momentum. But I think trying to implement a complete movement overhaul in an already released game is a recipe for desaster. Perhaps for the next game though? Would be great.

Hopefully allowing a walk toggle for PC users playing with a keyboard is a matter that can be patched in relatively easy, as the walking animation is already in the game and even the toggle is already there (for controllers).

I really hope Bioware shares some new information (beyond "we're investigating") with us about the matter soon. As many others I've stopped playing for the moment (just fiddling around the the character creator at the moment and periodically checking ingame, if I can stand the running yet - so far, no "success", I still hate it), so I hope, this gets fixed in the first patch and said patchs gets released soon.
