Any advice to people who haven't played yet? (no spoilers)

Anyone got any similiar advice of things you'd wish you'd known ( SPOILERFREE of course) before starting a game? Us Europeans would appreciate it.

Definitely go easy on makeup, I agree with that one. You risk looking very clownish.
On PC, I wish I'd thought to re-bind the keys to something more familiar immediately, but I was just too damn excited to get going. As mentioned elsewhere, my inquisitor hops around when combat starts because I keep confusing spacebar for the pause key. Funny.
I've had no crashes, but do save often. The CC, the prologue, there are a crapton of early cutscenes before you're cut loose and you don't want to have to go through all that again unnecessarily.

I want to add that I didn't experience any crash at all (my PC stats are here on the performance thread: http://forum.bioware...ost&p=17790478)
Just one bug where everyone referred me as "she" or "her" instead of "he" and "him" and had to start over.
Cheers!

If you are like me; someone who cares too much about every single detail of how their inquisitor look. Make sure you are absolutely happy with how you look before proceeding.

My computer doesn't seem to like all the sparing recruits around Cassandra and Cullen's area in Haven. Quicksave frequently there.

- Spend as long as you want in the CC. You're stuck with that character for the next 50-100-150+ hours (unless you like the default, then more power to you!)
- Try not to get overwhelmed; two hours into gameplay and I had had a ton of side quests (seemed to get more early on than Skyrim, for a comparison) in my quest log and I had no idea which one to start first. Good thing about the side quests I felt like the meant something/had good rewards.
- Set up all camps first in a map. Made traveling around places/restocking much easier (in my opinion).
- Save frequently (more of a precaution rather than me noticing crashes).
- Plan out your class and your companion's classes with some thought (in my excitement I didn't do that with the companions and got killed a lot)
- Tactical Cam will save your life.
- Run from Bears
- Enjoy everything!
This is only from the early access; can't play the full game for another 5 hours but I learned a lot nonetheless
Hope it helps!

There's a bug where NPCs will refer to your Inqu as the wrong gender even though companions get it right. Apparently you can eliminate this bug by switching genders back and forth a few times when you load the CC.
There's also been some Keep import bugs noted. Towards the beginning of the game you can ask Leliana and Varric stuff about DAO and DA2: pay attention to what they say and if something seems off you may have to start a new game and reimport.
Both of these bugs means recording your CC stats somehow to make it easily replicable is recommended.

I found this advice from a lovely user on another thread. Seems like it would be appropriate here:
If you're on PC and the 30fps is bugging you, here is a handy workaround to unlock it:

Take it easy on the eyes too. I thought I was getting a deep read with some violet around the edges. Turns out I got neon fuschia all the way through. ![]()

Female Human makeup defaults are hard to see (for Head 1 at least) in the character creator. I spent 40 minutes making my Inquisitor and IMMEDIATELY had to restart because as soon as I got into "outside" lighting, I saw the white around her eyes and super pink lipstick. It was extremely garish and the white eyeliner is hard to see in the character creator.

Wait for the upcoming patches is my advice for myself.

I'm disappointed to hear so many people have issues with the lighting in the Character Creator distorting the in-game appearance of your Inquisitor.
When BW included the Black Emporium in DA2 it seemed like they'd finally woken up to the fact that there's all-too-often a need to be able to change your character's appearance after his/her initial creation. I dared to hope that they'd learned their lesson and would include a similar feature in all future games, so it was surprising to hear them say that they weren't including anything of that nature in DA:I because this time it wouldn't be necessary. It's a shame. They create such wonderful games but insist on spoiling them for the proverbial ha'porth of tar ... Oh well, maybe the Black Emporium will return in time for ME4!
Anyway, thanks for the feedback on this one, guys. I won't get my copy until Friday, but I shall certainly be extra wary of the CC when I do!
