I don't know if anyone else agrees with me or I am just being picky but here are just a few reasons why Dragon Age Inquisition is really hard to enjoy so far...

1. The looting animation is a waste of time and slows down the game unnecessarily.  The loot method in DA2 was really nice, quick and easy especially with the loot key being bound.

2. Combat feels clunky. It looks great, but feels awkward. I also don't like having to hold down an attack key just so my
selected character doesn't stand there being useless while I am watching the fight to see how it(the fight) is progressing.
before I need to pause next.

3. I don't know if this is just my system.. but not being able to rebind my mouse buttons is really annoying.

4. If I accidentally click my left mouse button, even out of combat I just start attacking nothing.  I am unsure of why this
option is even in the game.  This wouldn't be such an issue if I had a choice to get rid of this ridiculous feature and go back to the DA1\DA2 of mouse movement.

5. The search, or "ping" to highlight loot is not fun, its very irritating having to constantly hit a button while I am trying to look around.  Even when it does find something, I am constantly spinning around just trying to find what it pinged.

6. Not being able to edit my own tactics is awful.  I have to turn off AI Tactics on most spells because they use them terribly.  Cassandra will stop tanking something, only to turn around and taunt something that is not even attacking the party.  I feel like whoever designed the tactics for these characters had a 1 week deadline to get them done so not much effort was put into it.

7. When in pause screen, the only way I can switch targets without un-pausing is in tactics mode.  Is there a way to turn this off?  I shouldn't have to be in tactics mode for this.  It is extremely annoying.

8. The menu (and most of the game for that matter) feel like it was designed to make life easier for console's.  While it might be nice for them, for PC users, at least me anyway it sucks.  There are too many back and forth menu options to deal with to get where I wanted to go.

Taking the best game play features of DA1 and DA2 and combining them in DA3 would have been much preferred to this new
gutted DA3 game play.  Losing the ability to edit tactics, left clicking as a targeting button instead of being forced to hold down to attack,
un-pausing while switching characters, the awkward and slow combat and looting and the many other issues I have read through these forums has really made this game hard to fully enjoy.

I have only played for 2 hours, initially thinking I could just re-learn this(which I should not have to) and treat it as a new type of game did not work for me.  I was planning on making a list for the first day or so but after 2 hours I noticed my list was getting quite long.  I am going to tab back in a give it another shot but I have a feeling at this rate I don't see myself playing too much, which really sucks because I have been such a huge fan, I really enjoyed DA1 and even DA2 and hope I can add DA3 to this list.

Hopefully BioWare reads these posts and makes a patch to fix all or most of the problems players are having, even if its just adding in an option to revert back to the old play styles and give us our options back again.

Please leave comments to let me know if I am crazy or anyone else agrees with me on these, or even If i missed some other large issues...

***NOTE***  Game play should not be this much of a problem in an RPG.  DA1 and DA2 did not need a complete overhaul.

If only I could experience the loot scene.

I think the game not loading for a significant population is a bigger problem.

Looking forward to gameplay problems in the future 8-)

I agree with all of your points. I ended up taking a few minutes to rebind many of the keys, just to make things more comfortable to use with a mouse and keyboard, but I still can't get around the attack issue. And, you know, it would not bother me so much not to have a lock on target attack during action mode, if the tactical mode wasn't so clunky.

What I dislike about Tactical Mode:

1. You have to use the keyboard for panning, instead of moving the mouse of the edge of the screen.

2. When I switch between characters, the camera centres onto that character. I haven't been able to find a way of disabling this. It can become quite annoying to have my screen switch from the heart of the battle to the outskirts where I positioned my ranged characters.

yea i agree i wish they just had the mechanics of previous dragon age games. i actualy wished the combat was more automated and tactical. the combat on this game reminds me of diablo 3 but worse because camera sucks maybe its just pc problem.

I agree.  The loot function is very frustrating.  I'm not going to give it away for anyone who hasn't yet been able to get the game to work, but at one point, Cassandra was yelling at me to go activate something.  I'm trying to rotate my view as well as click it with my mouse pointer, but I can barely see the pointer in the busy enviornment and the screen swings around like a drunk on New Years.  Meanwhile, my teammates are getting the crap kicked out of them, and Cassandra just keep yelling.  I keep hoping I'll get used to it or something, but I don't remember having this much trouble in DA2.

If you hold the middle mouse button, shift or left and right mouse buttons it will pan with the mouse.

If your screen is swing it's because you are moving it...

There is no indicator for the installation proggress. I pre-loaded the game. I can play SP, now, just fine and I appreciate the pre-load for that. However, I can't access MP, yet. And there is no prediction of when I will be able to. The PS4 doesn't show it on downloads and neither the does the game.

Shadow of Mordor showed the percentage of the installation. How I miss this. Not knowing when and not even being sure if it's proggressing is driving me crazy.

I agree that tactical camera certering on the character you pick is annoying, specially when you want to queue actions from different allies to attack the same target.

The other things didn't really bother me. Overall I'm utterly loving the game. Think it's gonna be my GotY.

Many PC folks can't get DAI to run long or at all! There are some nasty directx calls that should have been identified in a BETA test!

ESO had a similar problem with conversations locking up -frustrating but it should be fixed soon.  DAI's issue seems to be related to the directx system calls when changing scenes.

Another item for your list is control lock ups near ladders -very frustrating!  Apparently, this happens when there are options for ranged attacks with a height advantage.

In general terms, the game is sluggish (? on a silicon drive?) and I agree that code optimization and improved data manipulation is needed in many areas.

I can't run the game at all (PC). I envy those who can. Even if you aren't happy with it, you can at least get to play what you've paid.

There are 2 Nightmare modes in this game... the controls and then the actual enemy Health bars and damage.

As for the combat, you really have to hold down an attack key to attack an enemy this time? Does that mean attacking is no longer automated (after ordering my character to do so) just like it used to be in the previous DA games? If you release the key, your character just stands there doing nothing unless telling him otherwise? If true, I am not buying this for sure because I do not want to play a light-on-tactics "awesome" button masher disguised as a DA game. And why they scrapped one of the best tactics system is beyond my comprehension. Awesome button forever, dumbing down for the masses continues. And it was right with DA:I that I honestly thought that Bioware could redeem themselves by at least partially coming back to their shiny RPG past and bring us another memorable party-based RPG. Well, thanks Bioware for all those earlier years.

I agree with most things said here, so I won't reiterate point by point.

I really like the overall atmosphere, music and art direction, but the KB&M controls are very clunky and are seriously hampering my enjoyment of the game. My main gripe is tactical cam and regular cam seem to be two different systems and you can only do certain things in each system, instead of having everything flow smoothly across both.

Granted, I have only finished the prologue, but I felt I was fighting the control scheme in addition to the enemies. I had a great deal of trouble just closing the final rift.

@Martanek. Yes you have to hold down a button. There seems to be no autoattack: neither in tac cam nor regular view.

BTW... I finally found a way to check the proggress of the download. Go to the PS menu, then go on the Inquisition logo, press option and go to information. It will tell you the download proggress. I'm less mad, now. :P

__________

I tried to post this solution on the MP forum. There is a thread specifically about this. But for some weird reason I could neither reply, nor start a topic there... not even read older topics. Is it just me, or is the Combat Straget of the MP section not working, now?

If you can post there, please post this solution on the respective thread. It might help easing people's mind.

If you have time to write a complaint post about how the default keybindings are too inconvenient and horrible for your delicate tastes, then you have time to remap them to suit your needs.

Quit bitching and solve the problem yourselves...

Oh my bad, where's the click to walk keybinding again?  Or the autoattack one?  And the one to fix the camera from sucking?  Thanks.

They realize they fucked up with the first one and have acknowledged it and are going to resolve it.

There is no autoattack feature and there is no way to autoattack at the moment. Maybe in the future? I dunno.

You can fix the camera from sucking by changing appropriate keys, as mentioned in several twitter posts by the devs.

Quit crying, fix the problems that can be fixed, and enjoy the goddamn game instead of letting small **** ruin it for you. Jesus...

Twitter, there's an official channel, I did not know that, thanks.  I'm at work right now so I can't play anyway atm, it's just nice for people to feel that they're not alone in the problems they're finding.

I agree with OP on all points, especially 8. And to think they had the cheek to say the interface will "make use of the PC platform capabilities". Lol, this is one of the laziest console ports I've played in terms of user interface conversion.

To add some points of my own:

It's downright absurd how you can't switch between walking/running. I remember my questions regarding such a feature were stubbornly ignored when I was asking them during twitch streams. Wonder why.

No control over the distance at which npc will follow you, combined with pathfinding meshes that ignore objects such as tables and barrels, brings us scenes like the screenshot. I refuse to even comment on objections accusing me of nitpicking. This is supposed to be a role playing game. When I want to run I should be able to run. When I want to walk I should be able to walk. It's that simple. Also, my party members should not be trampling over corpses of dead inquisition soldiers, they should walk around them, and this functionality costs virtually nothing,

I'm too early into the game to comment on its writing, story, quests, etc. I think I'll write a full review in Metacritic eventually.

All points agreed.

In general we need more keybinds for PC. Like a "Take All" key in the loot menu. I'm sure there are others but that's the first one I miss from previous DA games. We've got them, so let us use our keyboards.

edit: oh yeah...the menus are clearly designed for gamepad and not mouse. Having to highlight an option before you can move a slider is pointless with a mouse. Also, more condensed menus would be good, having 4 options on screen at once is kind of silly when you're sitting 3 feet away from the screen. I guess should just sigh and be happy it was ported at all. :P
