Posted something similar in the Scuttlebutt section, which had info on controls that are different or not known about.

This is my thoughts and suggestions to Bioware on what could/should be improved.

General
Cannot bind mouse 4 and mouse 5 buttons (the 2 thumb buttons on most mice). Thats really annoying as 99% of other games let you bind them!

Cannot bind key combinations like Shift+E.

Mouse wheel scrolling and double clicking work where you expect them to. Good.

Cannot drive your character by holding both mouse buttons because left is bound to basic attack.

Ability tooltips dont show any info on them unless your in the skill tree. Really annoying when your out adventuring and want that info quickly. (detailed tooltips mod please!)

Annoyance: I dont know what is junk. Lots of "valuables" , but i dont know if they will be useful later.....im a horader :)

There seems to be a lot of slowness to the game. A delay before tooltips show up, waiting for the looting animation to finish before you actually loot, turning speed is slow etc. All these are annoyances and could be instant. Right now they slow people down and gets really annoying fast.

Animations

Having to wait for the bending animation when looting gets annoying really really fast.

It seems to me that you have to wait for an animation to finish before that action registers or you can do anything else. Example is the looting, and in combat animations have to finish before you can move again.

The movement and movement in combat feels very sluggish and unresponsive because of the turning(even when strafing), accelerating and slowing down animations which are very slow.  Especially notable in combat when needing to move quickly out of harms way......

Looting

The V key searches for nearby loot and highlights it.
The highlight does not stay on screen for long enough, and it highlight is so subtle you easily miss items.....forcing you to spam the key.

Personally i much preferred the previous games method of holding a key down.
At the VERY LEAST the highlight needs to stay on screen for longer and the highlight needs to be MUCH more obvious.

Right clicking or pressing F collects loot. But you have to be standing next to the loot. It will not walk you over to the loot like previous games.

On the loot screen you have to click the take all button or single items you want.

There is no take all key like in DA2. (Spacebar loots what is selected...so hover over an item it will loot just that....hover over  take all it will select that.)

Personally the F key would be better as it is also the loot key.

Tactical Camera

For me the tactical camera doesnt scroll out far enough. But thats just my personal opinion.

When in tactical cam view, selecting a party member jumps the camera to them.........would LOVE it to be a toggle as i would rather it not jump.

Tac cam can get stuck on objects like boxes. Also on building roofs.

Could do with an option that disables the mouse wheel going into Tac cam mode when scrolling back. Occasionally i have accidently gone into Tac cam mode when i just want to scroll out.

Occasionally i exit Tac cam and pause mode when i pan around .......and i dont know why that happens.

UI

There seems to be a lot of slowness to the game. A delay before tooltips show up, waiting for the looting animation to finish before you actually loot, turning speed is slow etc. All these are annoyances and could be instant. Right now they slow people down and gets really annoying fast.

On the War map missions screen when choosing between Leliana, Cullen and Josephine, enabling the mouse wheel to scroll between the 3 would be a good idea.

The level up arrow on you and your companions portraits need to be lit up ALL the time and not just occasionally.

Astrariums: Some of them extend beyond the screen. At first i thought there was a bug as some stars on it were missing. The screen doesnt adequately show that the screen can be scrolled. Also was it that hard to fit the image to the screen rather than having to scroll?

Would like a minimap option to lock North in place and rotate the character icon

I really hate Interface screens which starts text halfway up the screen and had blank space above it, so requires more scrolling to go through......like the inventory screen, attributes screen and options screen. It's unnecessary.

There is a delay when hovering over items/skills before the tooltip appears......theres no need for the dealy, slow people down and annoys us for no reason.

Tooltips dont update when you scroll through items on screens like the inventory and buy/sell. You need to move the mouse pointer and then back onto the item.

Crafting and upgrading are seperate screens, and require you to move to another workbench to open those screens......pointless navigation and annoying when they could have all been on the same screen just with an upgrade tab etc.

The tooltips when hovering over skills (outside of the skill menu) dont show any info on what the skill does or the damage it does. Add this in!

Skill Trees

Skill trees requires you to scroll a lot by holding down a mouse button and dragging to see all available skills, this is pointless navigation which could have been averted with better UI design. Not helped by the fact that nearly half the screen is taken up by your 1-8 bar and skill info.
Could have been improved, especially for PC where we dont need everything to be large.

DA2 had a far better skill tree screen. With it showing all the trees and you could click on the one you wanted with it then showing the full tree on the screen without needing to scroll.

And there is still enough space for the skill info and the 1-8 buttons.
You could also easily select party members by clicking on their portrait on the left.

Inventory Screen

The text for items start about half way up the screen.......meaning there is empty space above that so you need to scroll more than you should have to. Pointless navigation.

Armour, Weapons, Valuables, Accessories all have their own Inventory screen rather than being tabs along the top like previous DA games (which had better inventory design).

A and D if bound to turn left and turn right, rotate your character. Cannot rotate your character by any other means.

A and D if bound to Strafe left and Right, do nothing.

When scrolling through the items, the tooltips sometimes dont change to reflect the new highlighted item.

In my opinion the DA2 inventory (and skill tree) was FAR better. Less scrolling, easier to select party members, everything was slightly smaller so more fit onto the screen, Better navigation.

For now thats it, will keep updating with any other info, issues or suggestions i have.

I've been looking for that key. I would also like to hold it down, but I hadn't found it at all yet.

Thank you.

I share that opinion. I'd like to pull it out twice as far. And be able to tilt it without lowering it.

100 times this.

Could do with an option that disables the mouse wheel going into Tac cam mode when scrolling back. Occasionally i have accidently gone into Tac cam mode when i just want to scroll out.

This would also be excellent.

And I agree with everything you said about looting. Having to walk up to the loot manually is absurd.

Could easily make the F key do that though, strange why they havent.

If you press space on the loot screen it will take all.

Apparently the spacebar is the loot all key.

Odd. The F key would have made more sense as its already the look yet.

Will check out later when in game.

Edit: as posted above while i was typing :)

I agree, I want to map my thumb button dangit!  Searching and looting are also highly annoying.  For now I have a macro setup that presses my search key for me every 3 seconds.  I just have to remember to switch it off before I start a conversation.

Does anyone currently have a work around for auto attack?

I don't have a macro keyboard or anything and I don't know how to quite work AutoHotkey program.

I was wondering anyone at this moment have a solution? If you know how to work Autohotkey can you give me a script that when I click left mousebutton or something it auto attacks?

Updated OP to be purely feedback and suggestions (The post on scuttlebutt still has extra info on how some controls and keys work, and differences from DAO+DA2).

Also added that i would like an option to lock the minimap in place so North is always up and so it would rotate the character icon.

Why do you compare this with Dragon Age 2 (which is one of the worst RPG ever)? It should be compared with Origins.

Combat system on PC is a mess. In third person there's not a kind of auto attack with auto approach to the enemy, juts like DAO or other party based RPG, so you are forced to move the character, keep hold the mouse left button to attack, and to rotate camera you are forced to keep hold even the mouse right button. This is not good. Combat should be like Dragon Age Origins, with attacks based on click.

I reference DA2's Inventory and skill menus as being functionally better than DAI's. You make it seem like a compare the whole game to DA2 (whoch had its good and bad points). :)

The combat system is a matter of preference.

They changed it to be more of a direct control action rpg, rather than the previous more automated system. I have very few problems with it tbh, as that how i played the previous games. I used WASD movement to directly control my character, then paused and used tactical view to assign party action etc. So not a lot has changed for me.

But the game does have it problems, like the looting, the tactical cam doesnt scroll back far enough etc.

I do miss auto attack, and auto move to loot, and holding down both mouse buttons to drive my character, but i do kinda like the direct basic attacks too.

At the end of the day i think i understand Biowares vision for the game, and want to provide feedback on what i think doesnt work and needs improvement. And point out some odd things like the lack of mouse 4 and mouse 5 buttons ability to be bound.

There needs to be a way to enable auto-attack in Action Mode. I've though long and hard about this, about whether there should be a way to disable the Action Cam, or perhaps to enable WASD in the Tac Cam, but the only way to get all the right features available together is to make some fairly minor changes to the Tac Cam (tilt it freely, stop getting stuck on terrain) and enable auto-attack under the Action Cam.

Otherwise, we need to make radical changes to the Tac Cam in order to make it useful under all circumstances. The fact is, the Action Cam is a better camera for parts of the game. Driving with WASD (or two mouse buttons - that would be nice) is a uuseful tool. But letting us drive under the Tac Cam or getting the Tac Cam to auto-follow without breaking the free roam would be really hard to do.

Enabling auto-attack under the Action Cam seems like a much smaller change.

Auto-move to loot should be available under all cameras.

Inquisition is almost a brilliant game. The controls just need some tweaking.

Honestly, I don't think we need to be able to zoom out farther. I wouldn't object to that, but the only reason it looks like a good idea now is because the angle of the camera is locked when it's up high.

If we could tilt the camera freely to look around from up there, that would be plenty high.

Higher would be nice, but we need the free tilting anyway in order to look up (at rifts, at archers on hills - looking up is vital), and I think that would solve our field of view problems without the need to go any higher.

I'd also like the wsad/q/e keys to be adjustable in TAC mode as I always swap the Q/E bindings back to A/D. This causes naviagating in TAC mode even more annoying as I have to use Q/E which I moved and rebound because I didnt want to use them! I dont want or care for a button that rotates my camera. Thats why we are on PC! I played WoW by holding either both mouse buttons or the RMB + W depending on what I was doing.

I'd also like the option to invert the left and right panning in TAC.

100% need to be able to zoom out farther.

I was so excited getting this game and all I've ran into are control issues. Especially since I swapped the bindings for Q/E with A/D. So annoying!

I'm even on the fence about upgrading my pc instead of picking up an xbone and with the big sales coming up, its looking good but I will just have the same headaches while looking at a prettier version of the game!

Suggestion #1:

Launch Star Wars: The Old Republic. It should be easy since it is also made by Bioware.

Observe movement controls, camera, and UI.

Copy.

I would really like the ability to scale the UI size down too, would like to see this beautiful world they have put so much effort into! It takes up way too much screen space.

I agree with everything you have posted OP - good thoughful summary of the issues.

I've use the Nostromo game pads for years now, as they are essentially a programmable keyboard, directional pad, and scroll wheel designed to be used by your left hand. They work quite well, allowing for a keyboard+mouse solution where you don't really have to use your primary keyboard. That's what I used to fix Skyrim, and I was beginning to get a control setup with it that helped DAI considerably, but then I ran out of my 24 hours and needed to get my refund request in on time. It is a reasonably priced product that comes with dedicated software and support for massively complex macros. Creating an auto-attack is cake (set a key to toggle a macro off and on, then make that macro ping the attack command every "x" number of seconds. That should do it). Might be a good solution for you if you are determined to play the game before Bioware gets it patched.

1. You cannot stealth while in tactical mode otherwise the character keeps auto-attacking immediately, making stealth-based abilities a pain to micro-manage. If I stealth or use any ability that puts me in stealth my character should STOP auto-attacking in tactical mode.
2. No auto-attack in "regular" mode.
3. The tactical cam has several functionality problems:
       1. Does not zoom out far enough
       2. Cannot look "up" when you zoom out with it. This is extremely frustrating.
       3. Snaps to selected characters
       4. Gets stuck against rocks, walls, elevated terrain.
       5. There is no way to turn off the tactical-information popups that appear when you've selected to attack an enemy while in tactical mode. They are blocking where my main tank and my rogue is because of how large they are. If I need information about an enemy in detail I will just over my mouse over the enemy. I do not understand why we can't toggle this popup thing off in tactical mode. There is no option to toggle it off.
       6. Tactical mode needs only a button hotkey. The scroll wheel should not put you into tactical mode, because for the people that want to play without it, its a hindrance.

4. Cannot allocate attribute points. I want my own customization, thank you bioware. I do not own a console and I am not 14 years old. It also eliminates the potential for different kind of builds but basically you stripped us of that freedom.
5. The lack of options to tweak our characters A.I is practically non-existent compared to previous dragon age titles. You may as well call it like it is, it basically doesn't even exist anymore and its annoying because the current a.i are dumber than tree stumps (case in point: Reread problem #1 in this post).
6. Willpower doesn't say if it actually increases mana or not.
7. I have no way to actually see what my actual mana or stamina number is during combat (as an actual number, not a BAR).
8. Cannot equip a different weapon while in combat. Sometimes my rogue just can't withstand certain AoE enemies on nightmare mode and I would like to use the character in some way rather than having it sit there do nothing, but I cannot change my weapon during combat. This seems like a poor design decision.

This is what's wrong with Dragon Age's PC controls, camera, and UI:

1) The #1 problem with the camera is that you cannot lock the camera behind your character. This results in constantly fighting the camera to point the direction you need it to be pointing - where your character is facing/looking. Every 3rd person perspective game I can think of (MMOs, RPGs, etc.) lock the camera behind your character by default, or at least give the option.

2) When you take your finger off the W key, you don't stop moving. You glide/skate for a while after.

3) The strafe keys don't strafe. Your character turns and kinda glides a bit (see #1) and it is motion sick inducing.

4) When you hold down RMB to start controlling the camera, it immediately jerks the camera and your character significantly

It seems to treat wherever you hold down the RMB as if you held it in the middle of the screen and then moved it to that spot

Instead of every other 3rd person game on the planet that doesn't start moving the camera until AFTER you hold down RMB.

5) No lock on to targets. You have to manually follow them. This is particularly bad because of #1 through #3

6) Terrible lack of visual indicators of your current target. It is a very tiny + symbol in the middle of its body.

No circles on the ground. Nothing like normal.

7) You have to hold down LMB or R to keep attacking.

8) Only 8 ability slots. Terrible. Absolutely Terrible.

9) No ability to swap between ranged and melee weapons.

10) If you click on a lootable item from more than a few feet, nothing happens. Your character doesn't walk to it and pick it up.

11) Searching is horrendous. You have to spam V to search. It highlights items for a half second. Brutal.

12) In general, it is like they haven't played any MMO or 3rd person game from the last 10-15 years.

Added a bit about movement being sluggish and unresponsive in combat due to slow turning, accelerating and slowing down animations speeds.

Really makes it hard to get out of harms way.

Also added a bit about how i would like the level up arrow over portraits to be lit up ALL the time rather than just occasionally.
