Bioware,

This was set to be my game of the year. I went out to the midnight release and I was psyched as could be--I planned to stay up all night playing the game. Then, after the 30 minutes it took to install and download everything, I was instantly appaled by the graphics.

The hair is way too shiny for no reason. What do texture quality and hair shininess have in common? I don't understand. It looks really bad and unnatural. The facial hair is worse. I wanted my character to have a little stubble, but it looks like someone just blotched ink on his face.

The textures on everything look terrible, assuming they even load. I immediately noticed that Leliana's textures were absolutely garbage and I wasn't (and still am not) even sure they loaded propoerly. Cassandra's armor was way too shiny and low-res. My inquistor's armor was terribly textured--as was Solas and Varric. And everything else. During many of the scenes I have seen textures pop in, multiple times, in variying stages and they still never looked good. Pop-in is constant.

I understand that the old consoles are not as powerful as the PC or the new ones, and I knew going in (as someone who does not have a next-gen or PC) that my version would not look as good. But this game looks absolutely terribl--much worse than any other PS3 I have played. Even the lines in this game aren't straight.

I am sincerly asking Bioware to release an HD Texture pack for the PS3 and Xbox 360, because otherwise I can't continue playing this game. The abysmall graphics are simply too distracting for me to appreciate the rest of this game. I spent $75 on this game, and I am severely disappointed. I will be returning this game and getting a full refund in a few days time if Bioware does not make a statement about the state of the PS3 and Xbox 360 games.

You've got to be kidding me.

You aren't serious right? Please tell me you aren't serious.

I am completely serious. The fact that you think I am not tells me you are lucky enough to have a Xbox One, PS4 or PC copy of the game and therefore do not understand.

Any video of how this game looks on the older consoles?

And I agree with this thread. As it is, DAI's last gen textures are actually of lower resolution and quality than even console-DA2. That is flat out inexcusable.

Why? Maybe, probably, there's a lot going on in the background that already stresses the last gen machines a lot. Adding in all those high res textures is probably going to kill your machine.

honestly, they shouldn't of released this game on last gen, the game is too big. DA2 was confined to a city, it had room to spare for higher quality, if this game cut out half of the content for old Gen, then you'd be ok, but probably complain there's not enough content. They had to sacrifice details to fit the game. You want better, make a game yourself or buy next gen/pc. Sorry.

I'm currently playing on the ps3 and its not bad for me. The one thing that stands out is the shiny hair.

Of course the textures are lower quality. It's a needed sacrifice to allow bigger environments.

If they are going to lower the texture quality/graphical quality for the sake of performance that is fine--but they should only lower the texture quality of the things that we won't be staring at for 90% of the game. Party members and advisors should not look as bad as they do, nor should the Inquisitor. Dumbing down random NPC's, monsters, and environments is fine, but whenever I see Leliana and her awful textures, I cringe.

I'm playing on PC. The shiny hair is not related to the texture quality, it is related to the mesh quality. I started playing on medium settings and the characters had shiny hair. I had textures on high but the hair was still shiny. When I changed the mesh setting to high, the shiny hair finally went away. The higher mesh setting had a decent hit on my framerate when there was a lot of NPCs on screen.

I played a little bit of the XBox 360 version at the store and yea, the textures are abysmal. Looks like one of those XBox 360 games released within the first 2-3 years of the console. But the game still chugs framerate wise so I don't think you'd really want better textures because the game would probably be unplayable. The game was clearly designed with next-gen consoles and PCs in mind. Frankly, I think you should have expected that...

Console DA2 had much smaller areas, both in map size and visible range.

You do realize the game probably wouldn't even work with a HD texture pack.  They had to lower the textures as it is to get it to run on the old systems.

i play it on my x360 and it isnt even hot while playing. GTA5 makes my xbox hot but while im playing DAI its really cold and its normal, we have really low graphics. they didnt adjust or tweaked the game to use maximum oldgen resources. i havent played any game with such bad graphics in the last two years. even skyrim (released un 2011) had that weird texture popin or low graphics.

they did this game for the oldgen too to get more money selling but there is a terrible game comparing not to xOne version, i compare the game with other x360 games which are better and BioWare wont do nothing cause they will only focus on PC/PS4/xOne because "you bought it for the oldgen? well, **** yourself, we wont fix any bug, wont give you better graphics because we dont care more than earn money selling a low graphics version to whoever dont have a nextgen console"

thats the truth and i thought bioware was more serious but i discovered they arent as i thought releasing such a poor version for the oldgen when they could do it better.

i repeat it, my console isnt hot while playing this game and this is one of the last games we will have for this console. GTA5 makes it hot and has a lot better graphics and better resources use

now i can understand why BioWare didnt want to show oldgen version to reviewers xD this is so sad

I understand people are upset, but this game was designed on Current Gen to play on Current Gen.

Downgrading it in order to play on last gen is alot harder than some people realize. You cannot simply flip a switch in order to optimize to textures to best fit the systems capabilities. That kind of thing takes alot of time. Time that could be better put to use fixing the various glitches or bugs that come with a new game.

So yes you might be able to eventually have an HD texture pack, but I would not expect it for quite some time.

You really cannot compare Current Gen to last gen. Its just not an applicable argument that can be made. There is no way to make the game look comparable to Current Gen on a last gen system. The system simply can't take the strain.

Ugh. Same. I was so excited to play I knew the graphics wouldn't compare to new-gen consoles but the problems just are so glaring it really distracts me from enjoying the game. That and the minor freezes/audio bugs are just making my experience with that game I was most excited for this year less than steller. :(

Yeah the xbox 360 version is just awful. It realy looks one of the worst games for graphic wise.

While the game plays just fine, and I have been really enjoying it, the presentation issues just make me feel like I'm playing a shell of what this game could have been. I realize that it's due to the fact that Inquisition is a next-gen game on a last-gen console, and that it's my own stupid fault for pre-ordering it (On the PS3 at least), but it's still disappointing. Guess it's time to upgrade to a PS4 after all, hope to join all of you on there soon.

Oh well, at least there's one silver lining in all this, I can finally get to that playthrough of the Fallout series that I've been meaning to do in the interim

And if what we've got at the moment is all they could realistically squeeze out, I HIGHLY doubt we'll be seeing an HD texture patch.

Ah, yes, the old "feel if my console is warm or not" test. The universal sign of a poorly optimized game, as any scientist will tell you. Bioware are collectively soiling themselves, now they know we're onto them.

did you read what i wrote? O.o

i didnt compare it with the current gen version. i compared it with GTA5 which is a game for x360 and PS3 at least during the last year and even with other games like tomb raider and more released either to current and old gen consoles. No one of those games have such graphic issues as DAI has.

Yeah, it takes a lot of time and work to optimize the game for the old gen consoles, tweaking graphic settings and testing them but if you are going to make a sh1t with the game you are developing because you dont want to tweak and make a good setup which use all resources of the console, why you create the game for the old gen too? there is only one answer: TO MAKE MONEY USING THE CURRENT GEN ADVERTISING. i would prefer they wouldnt released a version for old gen but paying 70$ for a game which is clearly worst than a 3 or 4 years ago..

i know you have a current gen console or a good pc, yeah all of you having one of them say the same things "why we complain about it?" "old gen version has to be worst because is 8 years old" and bla bla, but if you get a game and is a pure sh1t and dont use even a half resources of the console you will enrage and complain about it. Not this time because you have a good version with this game but it will happen, one day you will be waiting for a game and after you buy it you will realize it is a very bad game compared with other contemporary game of your console.

this is how companies make people mad and lose buyers because after this, a lot of people who still are in old gen will remember this sh1t version every time they talk about BioWare, and in future they wont trust them

BioWare let a lot of people down with old gen version, and remember, much people are still using those consoles

I never played a game that used all the resources of my computer or console without being too warm even with very well optimized games.. and after play it i know if GTA5 wasnt well optimized, we couldnt play it on oldgen consoles
