They took out the Alistair hair (you know what I'm talking about, the generic clean cut hair. It was in Origins and DA2. All my male wardens and hawkes have it)

Who cares about combat and whatever else. Will someone PLEASE think about the Alistair hair?

That's probably the worst part of it all. Although finally Bioware has mastered the art of the buzzcut. I've always wondered how they could do them so well for Mass Effect but so poorly for Dragon Age.

Correction: Your character does have a background. You can shape the specifics of that background. Are you a daring mercenary who hated his captain and blew up a bridge? Are you a budding Andrastian? and so on

Also, correction: Item descriptions vanished in DA2, not DAI. I miss them too, but let's not ascribe blame to DAI for this.

Well, they did form it without you. It's gonna be kinda hard for you to tell them to leave in that aspect.

I thought that was something they had you get down the line as an upgrade through Cullen (the leg and hand slots).

I'm all for critiquing DAI. Hell, I'm willing to bet that's the first thing I'm going to do once my copy gets here. But let's critique it on things that make sense, shall we?

1 - It's not quite the same, is it? Having an Origins character who you got to know, know his surroundings, know his motivations etc... YOU shaped his earliest decisions.

And the DA:I character who's a shell and you retroactively fill in some blanks, make some choices.

Having a shell works in some games better (Dark Souls, Skyrim, etc..), but in this type of story telling I find caring for your character and knowing who is BEFORE the action truly starts means a great deal.

Even in BG1, while you had no idea you were Bhaalspawn, you got the time and space to know Gorion, Imoen, random townspeople etc.

Here it's just... WHAM. Accused! Nevermind actually, let's go kill together.

I have no clue why they let you go or why they take you with them btw.

2 - descriptions vanished in DA2, that is true. Doesn't make it better they're not in DA:I though.

3 - I don't care how or when they formed the Inquisition, my point is that the introductions and the character development of the main cast is really underwhelming.

Combined with the fact I'm feeling like I'm surrounded by religious zealots with every new conversation, it's really making my not care for them at all.

4 - less slots is less slots... I have no idea why they took away the arms and legs slots and sort put in minor versions on your "armor"... consolisation? Ease of graphic design?

I don't care, it's weak either way.

PC entitlement much?

I have a great rig and I also have a gamepad controller with it.  I also have a MMO controller, a mouse, and a keyboard.  I have MULTIPLE gaming controllers for my PC because I'm not a snob. ;-)

Can't you understand that's a step back from what Bioware did in the past for their other games of the serie ?

We never asked this as customers that they withraw features from DAO.

Has there ever been an explanation on why they decided to turn it from a Tactical RPG to an Action RPG? Why make such a switch in a sequel? I admit I haven't played it yet, but that's what irritates me most from everything I've heard, especially since I found out so recently.

@Enesia Why do you care so much about "reused environments?" I never noticed it once and if I did, I could care less if they re-use something.

That's what sells; just look at what Bethesda's been vomiting for the last 10 years. Fewer and fewer gamers are interesting in thinking their way through games. Tactics and actual role-playing is boring to a lot of gamers and they just want something that's mindless. In reference to Bethesda, making your PC eat three meals, sleep every night, and bathe everyday is LARPing, not roleplaying.

My personal take is that's just the style of a game Mike Laidlaw likes and seeks to make -- he's been doing that since Jade Empire so it's hardly a recent development.

ironically, JE probably did it the best out of the three attempts so far.

Tactical is not the answer to every prayer ... just look at Wasteland 2. Fun game, but those battles are turnbased, yet rather bland and generic and also not very .. diverse.

And not that I consider the combat from DAO to be very tactical n the first place anyway ^^ But at least they got rid of enemies turning into bloody pieces and falling from the sky. I like the combat, but I had less problems in the first place with DA2, so I am a weird one anyway

@Monica21 What's that got to do with anything.

Because you mentioned recycled interiors, something that nearly everyone playing DA2 noticed and commented on during their first playthrough. Your weak attempt at "defending" it or whatever that was makes it almost laughable. Also, if you want to quote, use the Quote button. This isn't Twitter.

@Monica21 The person I was repying to mentioned recycled interiors, I really don't see why it's such a prohlem.

@Monica21 Oh and acting high and mighty really doesn't give your comments any credence, or "whatever that was."

Have you ever played a Bethesda game?

Obviously not.

FYI:

You don't have to ever eat in a vanilla Bethesda game. You don't have to sleep every night and you don't have to bathe ever.

The roleplaying freedom is total in Bethesda's games, so if you don't roleplay, there's not much of an rpg game at all. It's mandatory to a completely different level than in later Bioware games. By a magnitude. Nothing holds your hand.

Same with thinking. If you don't think, wth are you then going to to do? Nothing holds your hand and leads you.

O.T.  I didn't have so much problem with re-used environments in DA2 either. A minor detail, that I could have forgiven. I just hated the game for what it did to DA.

How is it possible for the quests to be so bad in a dragon age game? Find notes, secure rifts, close camps...how are some people saying this is the best game ever in other threads? "Dont do them then" You say? What about those people like myself who prefer the side content over the main storyline most of the time? Not to mention the terrible UI and controls, which can be patched admittedly, but not the MMO style quests in a bland open world. I do not think i have enjoyed a single piece of side content.

In Dragon Age 2, you would go into different caves and the interior would literally be the exact same each time, though different areas would be accessible or not. And these were different caves, not multiple entrances to the same cave system. Do you not see the problem with this in the modern era?

I don't need to look at Wasteland 2 when I have Origins and even DA2. Now if you want to argue that Origins' tactics weren't deep, that's one thing, but they existed and you could program tactics for your squad. While I did focus on my Warden a lot in a manner similar to an action RPG, that was more optional than mandatory.

My personal take is that's just the style of a game Mike Laidlaw likes and seeks to make -- he's been doing that since Jade Empire so it's hardly a recent development.

Lame. Make a different IP then; don't ruin Dragon Age.
