I'm EU so I haven't got to play the game yet (still waiting to pre-order last minute, see what you Americans have to say first). One of the things I'd like to know is this: do bodies still explode when you stab them in the back?

That was one of the most stupid things in DAII. You stab a hurlock in the back, his arms, legs and head pop off. It was so ridiculous it felt like the game had been designed for a bunch of twelve year olds. It was funny* at first but then it just annoyed me to no end. Apparently blood & gore = epic fantasy questing. NO.

I like my gore realistic. Some decapitations once in a while (bonus point if the head's still attached with a single tendon of flesh!), a caved in skull, chopping off some fingers or a hand. Cutting someone's belly open. The realistic gore that makes the combat feel dangerous and alive. Sort of like the animations we had in DAO.

So... have the developers wizened up or do they insist on over-the-top gore becauseomgthatssocoooool!

*When I say funny, I actually mean melodramatic.

No, they don't go crazy explosions as far as I have seen, with only like 5 or 6 hours of playtime.  The frozen kills will shatter sometimes, and the burned ones will dissolve into ashes, but I have not seen anything so far that screams "HEY COMEDY 'SPLOSION DEATH LOLOLOLOL" :D

That's good to hear. I like the shatter animations and who doesn't like burning someone to a crisp! I'm just glad they didn't go with pop-off limbs this time.

Eh, I haven't used an explosive power yet, so there might still be flying limbs, but it would fit in that context, as explosions themselves tend to turn people to jibblies XD

Haha.

The way they did it in DA2 was quite amusing.

Enemies just kind of fell apart like Lego blocks.
