Believe this done directly via Tactical View, or indirectly by Tactics and Behavior settings.

Tactical mode -> select character -> move cursor where you want them -> right click mouse. On unpause or leaving the tactical mode (not the same thing) the character will move to that spot.

That said, is there any way to get them to *stay* in that spot for more than a fraction of a second?  When I try to position people with the tactical camera they just run back to wherever they please immediately afterwards.  I do feel like I'm missing something here, though.

There should be a "guard spot" command, I've seen it in the stream, but I haven't tried it yet and I have no idea how it is issued (I'll go with more right mouse clicks for now).

That sounds like it might have been hold position, which you can command with 'h' on the keyboard.  But from what I've seen it's impossible for a character to both hold a position and perform any other action, so I'm not sure what the function would be beyond telling characters 'stay out of this fight.'

It feel a little clunky  right now but the above poster pointed out you have tactical mode which lets you position everyone.  Tactle mode can be used as a pause but pause is not for tactics.  Please advise if it is possible but you can not switch controle  between characters in tactical mode which I hate.   But you right the will auto run abilitys which stinks and move with out direction.  Also stinks.  But I need to give it some time but it is very clunky.

Why is how to assign tactical commands to your party only explained in the PS4 version?

You can use F1 thru F4 to select which party member you are controlling in tactical mode.

Right now my AI controlled companions run right into the middle of large groups of enemies. Trying to get them to hold a position, such as in front of a narrow gap to force enemies through a bottleneck, is like herding cats. There seems to be no way to switch between them fast enough to prevent them from doing stupid stuff.

The tactics available in 'tactical mode' are clunky to the point of being useless. The game is beautiful and the characters and story are amazing but the combat is a hot mess.
