So at this point I'm pretty much going to consider the PC kb+m version an open beta awaiting some control patches (this is based on what I've heard, btw. I'm in the UK - still not got the game).

I've also heard people say combat is especially intolerable for melee characters. Which is sad because I wanted to run with a 2H Dwarf right out of the gate.

If you've already played the game: would you recommend ditching the melee Inquisitors and going for an archer or mage instead while the game is in its current state?

From what I read I think people are bitching a little too much. I'll know if they are validated or not this week, but my gut says they are just bitching just because.

The controls for KB/M do need some work, but I wouldn't go as far as to call it unplayable. They really should get fixed in a patch, but you can still get used to them. Rebinding certain keys would help people with a number of issues like constantly jumping when pausing the game, since jump is spacebar by default.

Can't comment too much on melee combat right now since I've been doing mostly ranged.

I'm playing a dual wield rogue on the PC, been good so far. (Stealth and backstab ftw)

Husband is playing a dual wield warrior on PS4 and is loving it.

Okay, thanks. I'll try the 2H and see how I get on.

No. I actually find the melee characters FAR more interesting, especially warrior with how Guard works. Guard is probably one of the best additions to combat. It makes warriors actually tough and hard to kill.

@MarchWaltz; I think it's because the combat ends up controlling a LOT differently from DAO and DA2. Now the combat plays out fairly similarly to DA2 (still a little different but it's got the same 'feel" to it) but the controls for similar actions have all been moved around to accommodate new gameplay additions resulting in you having to "unlearn" previous habits.

I'm actually running a two Mage setup.

Between Guard and Barrier, Cassandra has achieved near immortality.

I'd say combat is fine, it could use a little bit of tweaking but nothing that would prevent you from playing. I think people are bitching because of the fact that if u keep left clicking and the enemy you are attacking has moved, you will continue to attack in one place instead of following the enemy. You just have to get used to it. IMO it adds a skill curve. Anticipating an enemy moving and preventing it or following them. It doesn't make sense to me that if you start swinging a 2h weapon at an enemy and they move that you would be able to keep following them.

Holding 'W' while facing your target and autoattacking will have your character do a small dash if the enemy is close enough and will move them towards their target. I find this useful as a 2H warrior where you tend to knock your target back a lot.

No kidding! I wondered how I had done that on my rogue. Thanks for that. The combat has many more small intricacies that make playing the game more skill based. I will make use of it. I'm liking that if I don't judge the distance to my target and use an ability that has a specific range that my ability will miss.

On PC running a 2hander. Melee can be confusing due to the effects. Loving guard though. Block and Slash favourite ability so far, very satisfying to parry.

I'm playing on 360 controller. Just feels native. Miss they camera control though.
