If you can't do it and you are in the prologue you have to progress further into the game. The prologue limits what you can do in the begining so you get information coming at you in a limited fashion. On the pc the button is P but i have no idea what you platform is so I have no idea if that was helpful or not.

As Gothfather said, you have to complete the prologue first. Afterwards you will gain access to your abilities and your party's abilities too, which is very necessary for taking on the higher difficulties.
