Is Hawke's Gender Right?

During my first conversation with Varric in Haven, I asked him about Hawke and he referred to my Hawke as a "guy." I imported a world state where my Hawke is female. Is anyone else experiencing this?? Did Bioware just want the conversation to be unisex in referring to either male or female Hawke as a guy?

Did you export it during the keep yet? Otherwise, the port will keep the default state even if you sync your save.

I suspect that's just a missed line where they didn't make a variable for male and female. The only way to know for sure is get to the point where you get to remake Hawke.

I exported the world into DAI before I started the game and then verified the time stamp when I imported it while starting the new game. So I followed all the steps. I do hope the line was just missed. But I'd like to know if anyone else has noticed this with their playthrough.

Bug that switches gender could be effecting Hawke too.

Weird. What have you decided to do?

Redo keep from scratch and import and start again! seems like the best option or are you gonna carry on playing and ignore it for time being?

Hope i dont experience this on friday with my ps4 version. an that a patch is released soon :(

I have continued on, so we will see what happens.

I just would like to know if anyone else has experienced this or if it is just me.

UPDATE: I know my state world was imported from the Keep because when speaking with the blacksmith, he stated a Mage saved them from the Blight. The default state world has a Dalish elf as the Warden. So hopefully, that line made by Varric was just overlooked. Will post an update when I finally encounter Hawke or get more info!

Isn't the gender bug just an awesome way to get around the gender-locked romances? Now people can partner up with anyone they like! :)

I had a similar issue. When talking to Varric for the first time at Haven he referred to Hawke as a man where my Hawke was a female. The only reason I know it's imported from the KEEP is because I had Bethany survive - which is different from the default. I did have a minor heart attack because I spend a copious amount of time on KEEP making sure everything was up to par. lol

To anyone worrying about whether they got their import right, you can check in the Keep by going to the DAI uploaded (playable?) states. You can check the origin/class/gender just by looking at the state and check the fine details by copying the state into a new editable slot. If you don't have any DAI states then odds are high you didn't import properly as I have one for my char I stopped playing after I gave him the wrong name.

It's a shame tbh, the Keep was meant to mean an end to Import bugs. I think it's minimal though and just affecting the odd line of dialogue.

Spoiler

I did check my world states and there are playable states from the ones I imported into DAI, so it isn't a question of whether I imported correctly. And I have only chosen Fem Hawkes for my custom worlds. I even tried creating a new character but same origin (Fem Human Mage) and the conversation is unfortunately the same. I am going to try a completely different custom world state and create and different Inquisitior to see if I get the same result. I'll post an update once I get to that point.

In regards to Ash showing the femHawke encounter, is she showing it on the PS4?

I have this happen to me also on the PC. I imported a keep world state where hawke was female and killed anders and Varric mentions that Hawke is a guy and that Anders is still alive....

Also the default worldstate, even if i somehow messed something up, has Hawke as a woman from what i can see so it has to be a bug which sucks. I'm going to keep playing and see what happens i guess.

It isn't surprising. I found the keep doesn't actually "keep" your heroes. Once you export into the game they became a "default hero". You can see that when you go to the keep in the second tab of world states copy one of your play throughs. My warden and hawke were replaced with default heroes. Thankfully, it appears that they are the right race/class, but it could be a bug where they end up inserting a different race/class by accident.

I see what you are talking about, i have 24 playthroughs all of which have default female warden and default male hawke despite loading different worldstates that i know i did correctly. Does this mean no matter what i do i have to play through the game with the default heroes? If so that is terrible.

I went ahead and copied one of my playthroughs and while the gender and class for both my Warden and Champion were correct for my custom world, the names had been changed from what I had to the default names. So instead of Marie Amell for my Mage warden, it was Solona Amell.

All the other decisions I had made were the same, so if all that changed were the names, I won't mind it. But my issue is the gender being wrong in DAI. I really hope it's just a bug with the conversation and I will encounter my femHawke.

To be fair, the Keep is still in beta, so we can't expect it to import the Keep's world state correctly.

Unless my memory is failing me, default world state is female dalish warden who does the US and male mage Hawke who sides with the mages.

Edit: On the topic of names, I think DAI does not import names so when the chars are reuploaded from DAI, the Keep just uses default chars for the class, gender, origin, and race combo.
