Stuck on this one, where do I find the Velveteen?

I'd like to know too. So far I've gotten one as part of a loot drop, I'm hoping i don't have to rely on the randomness of these.

I've got 2 or 3 now, from random drops of bandits and such. I'm starting to think we might have to break down mage robes or something?

I can't seem to find the decorative gems for that quest, but have a ton Velveteen.  So if anyone knows where to get the decorative gems, please share.

I'm in the same boat. Can the gems only be found in the Hinterlands? Or do the items drop in other areas too?

Just random rare loot drops, straight out of an MMO (like most of the game).

I have plenty of velveteen and cannot find the gems at all.

Don't take on templars and aposate mages before the requistions are done or they won't be able to get the gems. Velveteen available in Val Royalo(sp?). After you get into skyhold the merchant across from eating place.
