I'm on the quest to get Shale, and I have to kill Kitty to do it, but she is absolutely insane and kills me party before they even mange to down one of her minions. I don't really anticipate ever winning this fight, but I figured I 'd post here for tips anyway.

You do not kill the kitty. You do as it commands.

That would certainly be a simpler route, yes. Though I was hoping to be able to go about things the way my character would. I suppose some kitties may just be too much for the average band of heroes.

So, any other ideas or should I just do what I'm told and give in to Ms. Kitty?

Is it possible to leave and come back when you're of higher level? Or maybe you can set the difficulty lower. Good luck

What level is your party? And do you have some sort of healing to spam? Remember that each level of healing poultice has a seperate cooldown, so you can make your party chug different ranks back to back..

With spontaneous zerg battles like this one, I generally select my whole party and get them to attack the same minion at once, chugging health potions on whichever character is soaking damage, until the adds are down, and then focus on the main enemy. I don't really know how you're going about getting through battles like this so I can only share how i did it.

Also: my main guy has indomitable, so I can't be stunned/knocked down.. Which helps a fair bit with at least him not dying.. Cause he's usually the one taking the hits.

Yeah, I could do that, but if I think I do that and pick up Shale then, my party will outlevel him more than they do now, won't they? Lowering the difficulty is always a possibility, but I just still feel like I'm missing something, this encounter just doesn't seem fair compared to the rest of what I've faced up to this point. It's not like I put up a good fight and she bests me in the end, she utterly destroys my whole party in a matter of 10-15 seconds.

Thanks, Nothinginside, I'll at least have to have a go at having my party focus on the minions and keep chugging health potions. It is my natural inclination to want to conserve potions and take down the big guy first, but that doesn't seem to be ideal here.

The guide says to focus on her before her minions. Were you able to Persuade/Lie to kitty so she doesn't posses Amila? Apparently my 12 cunning isn't cutting the mustard and I wondered what would. Also, does anyone know if persuasion options are a percentage roll or a threshold you have to meet?

There is an option to persuade her? I will have to look for this, as I have master coercion and something like 24 cunning, so I imagine I can pull it off if given the option. I just need to look for the right dialouge options to get there.

Yeah, you can trick her (it's a Persuade[Lie] response if memory serves) and she lets you solve the puzzle to open the door, then you basically laugh in her face and the girl runs off while you gut Miss Kitty. Not that the puzzle wasn't annoying enough to solve anyway.

Well that sounds fun, I'll do that. Well, the puzzle part doesn't necessarily sound fun, could be, but puzzles are a bit hit and miss for me. Still, it's better than having my party repeatedly turned to embers.

I'm pretty sure you still have to fight her if you lie to her, the only benefit is that the girl gets away safe.  Though if you don't care about the girl and want to avoid a fight you can just give in to the demons demands and let it posses the girl and solve the puzzle to free it.

I really recommend killing the cat if able. The helm it drops is really good, +2 to all stats among one of the features.

When you pick up companions they're about the same level as you (they scale), so if you were to come back later I think Shale wouldn't be underlevelled or anything.

Totally missed the option to lie to her. Now I feel bad about the little girl.

Although I do laugh every time I see:

Or you could go back up and tell Matthias to solve his own damn problems... Just sayin'...

Now that's a tempting option. Unfortunately, solving the puzzle and then turning on Kitty gives just about the biggest increase in favor with Leilana I've seen thus far, a decent increase to Alistair, and only a moderate decrease to Morrigan's favor. I imagine letting the possession happen would have some decidedly negative effects on Alistair and Leilana, though telling Matthias to deal with this stuff himself might not be too bad.

I just don't see why he'd help me with Shale if I gave him back his daughter possessed or didn't help him, unless I threatened him, and that has alignment problems of its own.

I guess I'll just have to try to do this fight for the next week, lower the difficulty, or come back later.

You don't need to lie to her or use any skills to get her to not possess the child. Simply make a deal with her that she can leave as long as she leaves the child behind. She will go back on the deal, but the child will run to safety beforehand. The best way to kill Kitty is to stop her from spellcasting. That involves stunning her as often as possible. Rogue stun, 2Her stun, and sword and board stun all work well here. No spellcasting = no damage from Kitty.

In addition, Morrigan's Frost line absolutely rapes her.

My party was, Me (rouge bow user) Alister speced for tank, War Dog, and Morrigan

Had Alister tank her and stun as much as i could while the dog, me and Morrigan took out her summons, after that she went down fast

I've found for battles like this (tough boss with a variety of minions) the spell Force Field is absolutely amazing. At the beginning of the fight freeze the boss in a force field and you'll have a great window of opportunity to take out the underlings and you'll be left with a much easier battle against a lone boss instead of a boss + a mob.

I just unleashed a blizzard in the room; the little fire demons didn't like that.

Dang I knew with more Cunning I'd have got that lie past her.

As for the battle itself I had Wynne as healer with some focus in the frost line, Alistair as my tanky, Leilana as a DW and myself as a DW warrior.

Had Wynne focus on healing everyone as Alistair piled into the minions, then I just slapped the 2 DW on Kitty. While there was a few close moments the battle itself mostly went smoothly.

The Helm incidently is lovely

Kitty says lolz. I got owned the first fight, owned her the second fight.

I always like to remember that there are buff potions during fights like this. I generally let them languish in my inventory until I get my arse kicked; but at that point I start popping them like aspirin, and it helps quite a bit.

always the choice of dimming the game difficulty level. im done with my first play on normal, only needed to dim the level to easy for logain and brakka (wtf, i had no healer in the party, i was out of potion, and they trap you so you cant go back?!).

I caught Kitty in a Crushing Prison from Wynne while my tanks sort out her minions. That neutralised her as a danger - when she got loose, she was down to 20% and hardly had time to do anything before my tanks pounced on her.

When I make my mage, he's gonna go straight for the Mindblast tree of spells ... Force Field and Crushing Prison can really shut down troublesome critters.

At the end, a party gotta have several ways of dealing with various troublesome situations. I just prefer the divide and conquer piecemeat style.
