MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

As a PC user I want to play a PC game with PC optimization. Here I'm talking about Menus/Looting/no point and click/no mouse scrolling..etc.

I bought this game on the PC to play it with the mouse. Why are you trying to force me to use a gamepad and waste my precious time trying to use Console mechanics & controls?

You need to patch this game asap and give us control over simple things like moving, jumping, scrolling, looting, things that should be a given on a PC. I'm tired of the camera angles, tree branches, two separate mouse cursors ..etc. If I wanted to use two different buttons just to control the camera I would have bought this on a Console.

The worst part (apart from the fact that this is all broken in the first place), is that you can't even rebind mousebuttons properly to try and fix some of the problems yourself.

I completely agree. This is unacceptable and a no go for PC gaming. I didn't spend £2000.00 on my PC to imitate poor console gameplay.

Especially tactic mode. I cried and tried to control my heroes.

I think that people needs something like this.

1) Right-click on the ground to move.

2) Right-click on enemy to move + autoattack.

3) Do not start attack on left-mouse-click on the ground.

4) In tactic mode more camera oprions. Like camera-moving on touching border of screen.

5) PLEASE detach aim from center of screen in tactic. Its so horrible.

I know this is a sore point, but can anyone tell me how the controls work out in the game, and the difference for it? I haven't gotten the game yet, and I would love to find out about it from you actual players, if possible.

Bioware please I love your games and universe DA:O and even DA2 had fine PC controls please patch this in. I don't even need a date just a confirmation that you've heard the feedback acknowledge it and will work on a patch to fix this. No threats no insults no violence. A simple request of confirmation, Please don't turn on your pc fans or defend the system with PR talk. Just understand that we post here out of love for a franchise. At least I do.

I saw this link earlier today: https://twitter.com/...97710272184322 talking about mouse usage. Not sure if it's been confirmed or not.  But I'd definitely stop trying to fiddle with the game as is and wait for a patch if Bioware is going to do one.

MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

I know this is a sore point, but can anyone tell me how the controls work out in the game, and the difference for it? I haven't gotten the game yet, and I would love to find out about it from you actual players, if possible.

Here's how the game just "worked" for me just now:  I'm running around, camera over my shoulder, using WASD to move and pressing space to jump over rocks.  I can't move move with left+right mouse buttons like other RPGs and the previous DA game, but it's at least semi functional.

I see an enemy up ahead.  So I zoom out to enter tactical mode.  Camera pulls straight up into a tree, and I can't see a thing but tree branches.  I readjust the camera so the tree isn't blocking the view, but it still doesn't zoom out far enough to see the enemies, just half my party, cause the other half is too far away, just like the enemies are too far away.

So now, I have a tactical view of tree branches and two of my character's heads.  Which would be great if I had two people in my party.  And we were fighting a tree.  But we're not.

So I pan around.  Not with my mouse cursor, but with the second cursor.  Yes, there's two entirely separate cursors, and the mouse cursor doesn't pan the screen around when you put it at the edge of the screen, only the second cursor moves the screen.  And I have to use the keyboard to control the second cursor, but instead of being moved with the WASD keys, like virtually every game I've ever played (and Dragon Age), it's moved via QWES- totally backwards from the keys I was just moving around the world with.

So now I want to move some of my characters into position and attack.  So I click on a portrait, and the game recenters the camera on that character, so I have to re-drag the camera back over to the enemies, via cursor # 2.  And I'm going to have to do this all for every single character, after every single attack.

So anyways, I set it all up, and unpause it.  But it doesn't unpause, because spacebar isn't pause like every other realtime+pause RPG since Baldur's Gate, it's another key.  And not even something that makes sense, like for example, the button that puts you into tactical mode.

But whatever.  There's a fight going on, and I press tab to switch targets.  Does it switch targets?  Nope.  I switches which enemy I'm getting a tooltip for.  So now I'm attacking one enemy, but getting targeting details for another.  Which totally makes sense, right?

I'm switching between characters now, slowing working through the fight, and I want to know what one of the tanking abilities does.  So I mouse over it.  What info does the tooltip give?  It doesn't tell me what the ability does, or how much damage it causes, or whether it's an AOE, or anything sensible.  It tells me what the keybinding for it is.  But that's already given right at the corner of the ability slot, always onscreen.  So why on earth is that the only info the tooltip gives?

Ten minutes of camera adjusting and tree branch staring later, the fight ends.  I click on the loot, but my characters don't go get it, I have to manually run over to each piece of loot.  And since the game doesn't enter/exit tactical mode when combat starts/stops, I'm still in tactical mode, and the camera is still stuck in place.  So my characters run off into the distance, while the camera stays stuck next to a tree.

Edit: Oh, and I keep shooting randomly while walking around inbetween fights.  Because in tactical mode, right click is attack, and left click is select, but outside tactical mode, left click is attack and right click activates objects.  And you can't change your mouse button's keybindings to fix any of this.

Edit2: And did I mention that you can't select multiple characters?  No selecting your three ranged/DPS guys or your melee characters and pointing them all towards an enemy, you have to set each one up separately, readjusting the camera every single time.

Edit3: And did I mention that you can't zoom out far enough to see the rifts and close them?  This is a central part of the game, and you can't do it in tactical mode.

That sounds horrible! Why do the developers feel like they need to keep reinventing the wheel with this game?

About the QWES tac cam pan, can't you remap those keys? Also surely there must be another way to select your characters besides clicking on their portrait?

The QWES you can remap (unlike the mouse keys).  But honestly, it shouldn't even exist.  There's no need for that second cursor if you've got a keyboard and mouse.  It's just a badly implemented console thing that doesn't translate to a keyboard and mouse.  We have a mouse we can move around the screen with.  We don't need a second independent cursor and keys to move it around with.

And you can use F1-F4 to change characters, but that still causes the same camera recentering problem that makes tactical mode basically unusable for keyboard+mouse users.

1) I cannot click the ground/items and my character automatically go pick it up
2) Camera does not zoom out enough to be useful in tactical mode
3) Cannot find an option for unlocking camera to selected units when issuing commands (I know it should be there because I watched the KB&M game-play from the devs)
4) Cannot keybind to side mouse buttons.
5) Cannot drag mouse and select characters.

6) No auto-attack, unless in tactical view. (Changing the rules when in 3rd person and tactical, no longer feels like one system, but 2 awkwardly smooshed together.

7) No option to bind camera to mouse movement (w/o holding a button down).

*** I would encourage everyone that won't be playing the game with these controls head to Origins and get a refund. A $60-$70 game sitting on your computer unused is not serving any purpose besides reinforcing BioWares decisions. Get your money back in the meantime while we wait and see if they change it. ***

** Just sent in for my refund. Hopefully Origin keeps that promise.

Origins Client > Help > Order History > (+) Dragon Age: Inquisition > REQUEST REFUND

For others that want your money back.

The refund has a time limit on it, so if you intend on getting your money back do it soon.

Since I won't be playing it in the current state it is on PC, I will wait and see if they fix the issues. If they do, I will buy it again, but I'm guessing by then at a lower cost, because i don't see this being a quick fix. I purchased the Digital Deluxe version too. Oh well, their loss.

Ok, I have no comment about the Tactical camera, because I haven't gotten a chance to even play with it...because I've been too busy trying to figure out how to move properly without running into walls and off ledges.

No more point and click? Really? I want to....go over there. A SIMPLE thing in any standard RPG, yes? But no, I can't just click on the spot and have my character go to that spot. Oh no. I have to hit "W" ...but only if my destination is exactly straight ahead. If not (and it usually isn't...have you seen the terrains in this game?), I have to Hit "W"....then "A" then....wait, my character has hit a giant boulder and is marching in place, trying to walk through it. <sigh> Ok, I hit "D" to start moving in the opposite direction....but I need to go forward now. "W" again....then "S"....then "W"...then "D" for just a bit.

Oh crap, there's a Shade attacking Cassandra. I rush to the shade....er try to rush to the shade....."W"....er..."S"...er... a combination of "W", "S", and "D" and....I'm there.... Now If I can just figure out which button I have to press to attack the shade before the fight's over.

Note to Bioware: when moving is a minigame, you've Failed.

No, I'm not going to endure 100 hours of this. You Bioware fans wonder why some players on Metacritic are giving this game a 0? Yeah, THIS is one clear reason why. If I can't play a game that I bought, then I'm going to rate it a 0.

I haven't even mentioned the general UI stuff, which involves lots of double clicking and highlighting issues.  And a mousewheel that sometimes zooms, sometimes scrolls up/down, sometimes scrolls sideways, and sometimes does none of the above.  Totally inconsistently.  I gotta guess for each screen what the mouse will do.

What I don't understand is how they managed to mess it up so badly. Seriously all they needed to do was copy/paste the control scheme from DA:O and add in a key for jump.

I never say that a PC game is too much catered to console gamers. Except now. Even I am half console gamer, but I always felt that Dragon Age is a PC game due to its controls. However, I find DAI:s controls too console-like. I've managed with pausing and jumping (switched pause to space and jump to alt). I've managed without just tab as highlighter altough I hate the "press V to shoot circles." I hate systems like that, they make games tedious.

But worst of all.. Is combat. Sure there are good things, but playing as rogue.. is not as fun as I thought. I'm supposed to hold left mouse button to use basic attacks? Why? Why isn't there auto-attack? Auto-attack feels so much natural than holding the button down. Also I don't like how you can use abilities than realize it was out of range. In earlier games your character would automatically run in range to use it. Not anymore. Now it feels like playing cat & mouse. I guess those work on consoles better?

I do understand that the game has whole new combat mechanics and I'm okay with that. However, I don't feel that these are very PC friendly. I enjoy the game a lot and it's not like I'm going to stop playing because of this. Still, I feel that better controls would make this even more enjoyable.
