I haven't played a game with the keyboard in probably 15 years or more.  This is ridiculous.  What happened to the intuitive and simple controls used in Origins?  How am I supposed to remember what 15-20 different keys do, especially in the heat of combat?  Stupid.

One of the biggests shifts in control design and I have no idea how it got approved.

Either they made a mistake and released it with the wrong build, or they just didn't have anyone overseeing the design process who was aware of the previous titles in the series.

I should have seen it coming with all the gameplay/review of this game on console only. But I though the "Dragon Age Inquisition will not simply be a PC port" from Bioware would mean anything... Yes the game has a decent port compare to what he had lately but still lacking every key feature of PC gaming...

I mean, did anyone from the quality check of the this game was a real PC gamer? I - and surly thousand of gamer out there did too - spotted multiple annoying behavior/control within the first second of the first combat in this game.

- From the weird pathing system of the AI, probably due to all those useless frostbite decor destruction feature - yes it's eye candy but worthless if it does not enhance the game experience.
I've literally seen an enemy NPC run below the bridge i was standing to attack my character, and suddenly appear in front of me?? Or having my character being teleported up/down while using the tactical view.

- Random AI behavior
"In Dragon Age, a Dragon is the apex predator...." yes right, is that the reason why i could have killed a dragon with only 1 character without taking a single damage in nightmare? You can literally snipe almost every NPC in this game, and so far 4 of the dragon you can encounter can be.

- Left click to attack in and out of combat...
Yes great, how can i unbind it? where's my hold right/left click to move?

- Having a game that doesn't support mouse button??
I literally had to macro the buttons of my mouse to a keyboard key to use them... Not every PC gamer has a programmable mouse you know.

- Crappy camera setting,
don't get me started.

- Limited tactical settings to help the AI actually do a decent job beside the crap their doing right now...

- Random unresponsiveness of some "toggle" ability especially the shield wall of the warrior
I cannot count how many time I swing at an enemy to cancel shield wall instead of just hitting the keybind to cancel it...

- Dubbed down "RPG" system for a more hack and slash experience...
I could have cope with it if everything else of this game wasn't so diluted as well

- Cannot access your bag to change your weapon in fight
So if your mage is facing a fire resistant mob, good job having him on the side line because he will do jack **** of damage.

And the list continue... Bioware, if you want us to buy Mass Effect 4, or even another Dragon Age since you're obviously pushing a new one. You must fix your bug otherwise your core fan base will not buy a diluted game. Yes the game as still some enjoyable parts, but soooo many bugs as well.

Well, i can no longer stand playing the game.  The controls are just too frustrating with the lack of point and move for looting and no auto-attack and we may as well say no tactical cam either.  I wish i could return my copy but i got it at gamestop so i think i'm stuck with it.  so hopefully Bioware pulls their head out of their @$$ and patches this pile so that its starts to meet PC gamer standards cuz as it stands, its garbage in its purest form.

Also; I find Inquisition to be an amazing game, although it is currently held back by especially these control issues - hope they'll be fixed  :)

For the first few days I was mad at Bioware for all the reasons listed in the previous 400 posts. On Friday I told myself "What the heck!", So I tried to play the game with the current controls. After about 16 hours of play I got used to the controls and was able to beat the first boss and finally finished the prologue.

As much as I would like to have the DAO controls for PC back I finally got used to these ones. Don't take me wrong. I would definitely take a PC patch, but I never wanted to get a refund. I find that defeatism....

Haha.

I would never have thought that the entire clip would fit so much.

Now we get to wonder: What's Omega-13 for DA:I? :P

its not just that though, the tactical camera itself is horrendous because it doesn't give us any proper tilt control when you zoom out with it. Just... meh.

It feels like this game was made by the group that made that crappy star wars mmo from bioware or something and they had no clue what they were doing. That's exactly how it feels compared to DA2 or origins.

Bring back the DA:O controls period. I stopped playing the game for a while because of my combat experience in 1st boss which is not good.

You can't seem to click the target at the rift because the camera does not show the view above. You need to target another comapanion and try to re-roll the camera and click back on the main character to right click the rift which is a lot of hardwork.

Awaiting the patch before playing the game again.

Currently playing PoE which is amazing.

SWTOR? That was/is a good game to me; crisp controls, lots of options, and the patch that let you re-arrange your HUD anyway you wanted, great! But, after a while I did get bogged down visiting the same worlds over and over etc. If they brought SWTOR controls/HUD (with auto-attack) to this game it would work for me.

As a PC user I want to play a PC game with PC optimization. Here I'm talking about Menus/Looting/no point and click/no mouse scrolling..etc.

I bought this game on the PC to play it with the mouse. Why are you trying to force me to use a gamepad and waste my precious time trying to use Console mechanics & controls?

You need to patch this game asap and give us control over simple things like moving, jumping, scrolling, looting, things that should be a given on a PC. I'm tired of the camera angles, tree branches, two separate mouse cursors ..etc. If I wanted to use two different buttons just to control the camera I would have bought this on a Console.

Brothers and Sisters. Let your voice be heard! We. Are. PC Gamers!

I agree with the tread starter. I too would like better controls, free camera etc.

BUT!

I gave it a shot last night. I found out you are able to press and hold Right Mouse Button which lets you move the camera freely.

I'm still not quite convinced weather this is a good feature or not. These dual combinations of controls are handy sometimes. But then again, maybe it could have been arranged better?
Maybe let the player have the choice of binding these functions under 'Keybinding', Just like any other free choice?

I love Skyrim for its free camera.

There are definitely more issues than the ones mentioned in the vid yes, looking forward to them patches ;) As for SWTOR...

I think it's a good game, and the freedom to edit the HUD is B) However, when thinking of those 'pillars' in an MMO, I found combat, progression and story to be top-notch, with exploration to be what eventually what drove me away from SWTOR - the worlds feel static and "oh look, another invisible wall". Too much exploration 'on rails'.

I wouldn't want the controls from SWTOR in Inquisition, they're not bad in SWTOR, but I play Origins and DA2 very differently than an MMO - a lot more tactical. And yes, please give us auto-attack back!

Alright so I haven't actually bought this game yet, but I have been mostly impressed with what I've seen so far and have been seriously considering getting it on PC. The only major concern I have is what I've heard about the lackluster PC controls as I have no interest in playing with a controller. However, reading through this thread, it occurs to me that the problem with the controls may have more to do with expectations players had for game mechanics rather than the controls themselves. For example:

No more point and click? Really? I want to....go over there. A SIMPLE thing in any standard RPG, yes? But no, I can't just click on the spot and have my character go to that spot. Oh no. I have to hit "W" ...but only if my destination is exactly straight ahead. If not (and it usually isn't...have you seen the terrains in this game?), I have to Hit "W"....then "A" then....wait, my character has hit a giant boulder and is marching in place, trying to walk through it. <sigh> Ok, I hit "D" to start moving in the opposite direction....but I need to go forward now. "W" again....then "S"....then "W"...then "D" for just a bit.

This complaint doesn't even make sense to me. Using WASD to move is standard practice in third-person action games, no? And of course you need to, you know, move out of the way if there are obstacles. How is this weird? I can't event imagine clicking a point on the map to then watch my character automatically move to that point. THAT seems awkward to me.

So I guess my real question is this: Is the game actually hard to control, or does it just control less like an old-school RPG than PC players were expecting? Personally, I don't mind action-oriented controls. In fact, I prefer them.

Dux, I found that I eventually got sort of used to DAI's controls. They're never good controls, though. They're awkward and clunky. But over time they become tolerable (barely), but they're still in desperate need of improvement. The mouse in particular needs a lot of love. I'm constantly doing things by accident because I've hit the wrong mouse button.

I haven't read the whole thread so no idea if this is an issue for anyone else but I'm finding targeting a certain part on an enemy (generally dragons) to be incredibly annoying. I'll lock onto one leg, go into tactical view to cast an an AoE and then for some reason I have unlocked from it. Trying to "auto attack" using the left mouse button also usually causes it to unlock and attack a different part. It's VERY annoying and drags the fight out for no reason. Having the switch targets thing be the same key as locking onto a target is stupid as well. :/

Have you people never played an MMO before or do you all only play games from 1999? The controls for this game are fine. Right click controls the camera. WASD moves. Left click to attack. Tab to switch targets and mouse wheel to zoom the camera in and out. F loots and spacebar takes all items and closes the window. F also opens doors/climbs ladders/etc.... Holy **** thats so difficult!!!!!!! * rolls eyes *

The PC controls are perfectly fine. Not seeing the issues. There's a keybind for everything. If anything pausing the game to give commands and to drink potions when using a controller is incredibly annoying. Seriously who clicks to move anymore? This isn't a top down dungeon crawler like diablo. If you can't handle these simple PC controles then you should probably go play on a console.

Controls like any other typical 3rd person action game. Basically has MMO controls just abit more simpler.

It's funny that Bioware relased a statement saying they were lookin at the Pc controls issue (among the many other problems) the day after the release. Some how they had a patch for PS4 ready in less than a week, whereas the Pc users are being shat on.... Hilarious, that they claim that they have Pc gamers at heart and then serve us some crappy console port... These issues shouldn't even exist to begin with, let alone give us false hope that there maybe a "patch for that". Business as usual heh, Bioware?

So.... is this game an MMORPG ? No ? Then could you please put arguments like this aside ?

To make it clear : I got used to these controls and now I'm more or less fine about them. I played DAO using WASD , except for the combat. BUT: such arguments irritate me. Like : you don't like it, then buy a pad. You don't like it, play other game. You don't like it, that's what today's games look like. Lol.

I respect that somebody might not like these controls. When you have a problem about some aspect of the game, perhaps somebody will tell you : go somewhere else, buy another game etc.

Sorry if I seem impolite but we should respect each other's concerns, I thought that's why this section is called "feedback".

That right there is a reason for anyone on the fence about DA:I on the PC to stop and wait until Bioware show what they have planned in their upcoming patches.

Trust me Dux, playing the game in this state is more like a job than fun. I've shelved it after just 30 mins or so, because its game-breaking for me.

That's all fine and dandy, but some of the complaints are ridiuclous to the point that its like these people have never played a 3rd person action game on a PC before, especially the ones complaining about wasd controls. I mean really? Come on. Someone was running into walls because they can't comprehend basic wasd controls and moving the camera with the mouse? At that point they should have just gotten the console version.
