Bioware please I love your games and universe DA:O and even DA2 had fine PC controls please patch this in. I don't even need a date just a confirmation that you've heard the feedback acknowledge it and will work on a patch to fix this. No threats no insults no violence. A simple request of confirmation, Please don't turn on your pc fans or defend the system with PR talk. Just understand that we post here out of love for a franchise. At least I do.

I agree, it would be nice to have these options. For PC i would like to see a zoom out more in tactical so it feels more like Baldurs gate which would be Way better then hovering the whole screen around to find different mobs to target.

The worst part (apart from the fact that this is all broken in the first place), is that you can't even rebind mousebuttons properly to try and fix some of the problems yourself.

Can't you bind it in your mouse software?

You shouldn't be forced to use macro programs and other software to bind your keys and mouse the way you want in a PC game that should come with a PC mechanics scheme in the first place. That's for sure

Oh i completely agree but i was asking the question because i don't get the game until tomorrow and was concerned that even that wouldn't work.

Here's how the game just "worked" for me just now:  I'm running around, camera over my shoulder, using WASD to move and pressing space to jump over rocks.  I can't move move with left+right mouse buttons like other RPGs and the previous DA game, but it's at least semi functional.

I see an enemy up ahead.  So I zoom out to enter tactical mode.  Camera pulls straight up into a tree, and I can't see a thing but tree branches.  I readjust the camera so the tree isn't blocking the view, but it still doesn't zoom out far enough to see the enemies, just half my party, cause the other half is too far away, just like the enemies are too far away.

So now, I have a tactical view of tree branches and two of my character's heads.  Which would be great if I had two people in my party.  And we were fighting a tree.  But we're not.

So I pan around.  Not with my mouse cursor, but with the second cursor.  Yes, there's two entirely separate cursors, and the mouse cursor doesn't pan the screen around when you put it at the edge of the screen, only the second cursor moves the screen.  And I have to use the keyboard to control the second cursor, but instead of being moved with the WASD keys, like virtually every game I've ever played (and Dragon Age), it's moved via QWES- totally backwards from the keys I was just moving around the world with.

So now I want to move some of my characters into position and attack.  So I click on a portrait, and the game recenters the camera on that character, so I have to re-drag the camera back over to the enemies, via cursor # 2.  And I'm going to have to do this all for every single character, after every single attack.

So anyways, I set it all up, and unpause it.  But it doesn't unpause, because spacebar isn't pause like every other realtime+pause RPG since Baldur's Gate, it's another key.  And not even something that makes sense, like for example, the button that puts you into tactical mode.

But whatever.  There's a fight going on, and I press tab to switch targets.  Does it switch targets?  Nope.  I switches which enemy I'm getting a tooltip for.  So now I'm attacking one enemy, but getting targeting details for another.  Which totally makes sense, right?

I'm switching between characters now, slowing working through the fight, and I want to know what one of the tanking abilities does.  So I mouse over it.  What info does the tooltip give?  It doesn't tell me what the ability does, or how much damage it causes, or whether it's an AOE, or anything sensible.  It tells me what the keybinding for it is.  But that's already given right at the corner of the ability slot, always onscreen.  So why on earth is that the only info the tooltip gives?

Ten minutes of camera adjusting and tree branch staring later, the fight ends.  I click on the loot, but my characters don't go get it, I have to manually run over to each piece of loot.  And since the game doesn't enter/exit tactical mode when combat starts/stops, I'm still in tactical mode, and the camera is still stuck in place.  So my characters run off into the distance, while the camera stays stuck next to a tree.

Edit: Oh, and I keep shooting randomly while walking around inbetween fights.  Because in tactical mode, right click is attack, and left click is select, but outside tactical mode, left click is attack and right click activates objects.  And you can't change your mouse button's keybindings to fix any of this.

Edit2: And did I mention that you can't select multiple characters?  No selecting your three ranged/DPS guys or your melee characters and pointing them all towards an enemy, you have to set each one up separately, readjusting the camera every single time.

Edit3: And did I mention that you can't zoom out far enough to see the rifts and close them?  This is a central part of the game, and you can't do it in tactical mode.

Ok, I have no comment about the Tactical camera, because I haven't gotten a chance to even play with it...because I've been too busy trying to figure out how to move properly without running into walls and off ledges.

No more point and click? Really? I want to....go over there. A SIMPLE thing in any standard RPG, yes? But no, I can't just click on the spot and have my character go to that spot. Oh no. I have to hit "W" ...but only if my destination is exactly straight ahead. If not (and it usually isn't...have you seen the terrains in this game?), I have to Hit "W"....then "A" then....wait, my character has hit a giant boulder and is marching in place, trying to walk through it. <sigh> Ok, I hit "D" to start moving in the opposite direction....but I need to go forward now. "W" again....then "S"....then "W"...then "D" for just a bit.

Oh crap, there's a Shade attacking Cassandra. I rush to the shade....er try to rush to the shade....."W"....er..."S"...er... a combination of "W", "S", and "D" and....I'm there.... Now If I can just figure out which button I have to press to attack the shade before the fight's over.

Note to Bioware: when moving is a minigame, you've Failed.

No, I'm not going to endure 100 hours of this. You Bioware fans wonder why some players on Metacritic are giving this game a 0? Yeah, THIS is one clear reason why. If I can't play a game that I bought, then I'm going to rate it a 0.

Wow.

OK, can somebody link these posts directly to Laidlaw on twitter.

I am definitely not even bothering to install until this is addressed.  And I knew back in August this would be a problem.  SO many tried to argue and say it wasn't the consoles fault.  That the PC wasn't an afterthought.  Do they look foolish now...

The controls are wonky, I can also agree to this. It feels sloppy and is a rushed job. Once again PC gamers feel like they got the lesser of the deal.

Can't you bind it in your mouse software?

Not really.  One of the major problems is that keybinds switch between regular and tactical mode, ie. right click is attack in tactical mode, and left click is attack outside of tactical mode.  My mouse software, or even a more advanced macro software would be able to detect the switch into and out of tactical mode.  Right?

Either way, I shouldn't need to fix this elsewhere.  It should make sense in the game.

I will play it tomorrow... now I'm a bit afraid of playing it with controlls made for consoles...

I hope they make a patch for PC-Users in time...

At the remote chance of this thread being read, I'd also like to ask for better PC controls.

The main problem for me is the lack of click-to-move. Clicking on an item that is out of reach should make my character run up to it and pick it up. Right-clicking on an enemy out of range should make my character run into range and start attacking. The lack of this is particularly aggravating for my melee rogue, so much so that I'm seriously considering benching her until this gets fixed. Bioware, this is SUCH A PAIN!

Also: Sometimes it is extremely difficult to target rifts because they are too high overhead. The first boss fight almost made me throw my mouse out of the window because it was all but impossible to target the rift properly. Suggestions: Allow us to zoom further out, and/or make rifts tab-targettable.

(Also: Please remove the silly submarine-style ping and revert to the old mechanic of tab-highlighting stuff. Ideally with sparkles. The 'v'-mechanic is driving me up the wall.)

You're downplaying this. "wonky" suggests an element of chaos....as if the controls are unreliable, or as if they work sometimes and don't work other times.

But that's not the case here. The controls are perfectly responsive...erroneously. This is the first game I have ever played with 100% MISCONTROL. Is everyone here aware of the fact that the left mouse button and the right mouse button do the exact same thing in DA:I? (ie. basic attack) Go ahead and ask Mike Laidlaw why they couldn't just design one of those buttons to iinteract with the world. (you know, like to move, or to click on objects) Sheesh.

For me the game is simply unplayable. it's like Buying a new car and discovering that the steering wheel, brakes and gas pedal have been replaced with a lettered keypad on the dashboard....about 10 different buttons, to be exact.

I knew from reviews that this game is character centric, and also that tactical mode didn't work so well, so I planned straight out to use a melee character.  Here's my experience with controls:

Pressing LMB launches an attack in the direction of my target, but that's useless as a warrior because I wind up just swinging from twenty feet away.  You can only move in relation to which way you're looking, so getting in to position to attack is like parallel parking.  Plus it's difficult for me to tell exactly WHO my target is, so I'll often move to attack the person right in front of me just to turn around and swing at open air.

On top of of button mashing LMB to attack and RMB to adjust the camera, the cursor is still floating around somewhere CLICKING on things, so I'll randomly change characters by clicking their portrait or using special abilities/potions without meaning to.  You shouldn't have a mouse cursor if you're using the mouse to control in game actions!!  WHY DO YOU HATE ME?!

The controls in this game are unintuitive, clunky, confusing, obnoxious scheme and I would not have expected it in this game.  It takes a lot of the fun out of the battles and I find myself mashing my way through to the cut scenes, which are fantastic of course.

Locking to target would be useful, especially if they don't add in a mouse mode vs moving the mouse moves the camera mode.

the tactical cam also needs a lot of work. It doesn't zoom out far enough and you lose all free-motion when you zoom out (you can't look up at all). it's incredibly lame.

I am disabled and was unable to play the game because of the controls.

I returned it to Origin for a refund.  It was easy and a good customer service experience.

Therefore, I will buy the game again IF they return to mouse centric controls like the previous two Dragon Age.

I encourage everyone to vote with their wallet.

I have the same issue with the Mouse button. I'm running on my 28 inch 4k monitor but had to go smaller resolution(1080) just so i could see the tiny ass mouse pointer. I hate it, went 5 hours in on my warrior and switched to mage cause I can't find the friggen Mouse pointer.

But i'm not refunding the game because of that. HELL NO!!!

What I don't understand is how they managed to mess it up so badly. Seriously all they needed to do was copy/paste the control scheme from DA:O and add in a key for jump.

Soooooooooo true! Why change a perfect formula??

I don't think I will have any problem without "point and click".  I played many open world games like Skyrim and Planet Explorer and you move around your environment with the keyboard(WASD or Right,Left, down,up key).  You will just get use to it and I guessed it more immersive that way.  But I guessed it's more relaxing to run around the environment/world with the point and click without having to constantly having to maneuver with your other hand on the keyboard.

I love this game I really do - but I have to agree with everyone here on that point. The PC controls are just awful. It was so obviously made for console and then just 'squished' into a PC UI. This is really disappointing to me - but otherwise a great game.

i only use w to go forward or g to auto run. i hold my right mouse button down for camera movement and switched jump to left ctrl and space to pause. Now it feels how i played DA:O and DA2.  Just customize the keys the best you can to fit your play style. I understand it sucks but maybe you will catch on and start saying, wow this is better. But probably not LoL. more then likely not because people have a hard time with change.

1) I cannot click the ground/items and my character automatically go pick it up
2) Camera does not zoom out enough to be useful in tactical mode
3) Cannot find an option for unlocking camera to selected units when issuing commands (I know it should be there because I watched the KB&M game-play from the devs)
4) Cannot keybind to side mouse buttons.

5) Cannot drag mouse and select characters.

6) No auto-attack, unless in tactical view. (Changing the rules when in 3rd person and tactical, no longer feels like one system, but 2 awkwardly smooshed together.

7) No option to bind camera to mouse movement (w/o holding a button down).

this list pretty much sums up all the issues with combat on the "console port" for the PC.  good list, too bad it covers just about every part of combat......

My hands ache after playing DA:I...I play lots of games...my hands have never hurt after playing games.

And I don't get why, this control scheme should be dead stupid simple but somehow it just ends up not being simple at all.

I literally just replayed DA:O and DA2 on the run up to DA:I....to get back in touch with the world and the story...and even DA:O, being the oldest of the games, feels more natural than DA:I does, DA2's combat actually feels better than DA:I's does.

I really don't get it. How do you take a control scheme as simple as this and make it as muscularly confusing as it appears to be.
