You mean the same Witcher series that has TW2, a game design from the ground up with a gamepad first UI?

It's was? I played it with M&K and had no trouble (past the first five minutes). Compared to Inquisition, TW2 was a paragon of control design.

Is there a way to get Dragon Age 2 controls back?

I just closed the rift though not really sure how I managed to do it.

  1. My character just runs straight ahead sometimes, ignoring enemies like a twit.
  2. When ordered to attack he swings his sword at thin air and stays still, you have to wasd him to the demon.  The demon moves... wasd him up to him again.
  3. Took me ages to find a way of using the camera to zoom out enough to command my character to close the rift
  4. See some loot! try right or left clicking... nothing happens he just stands there. you have to painfully wasd him to the spot and then right click.
  5. Camera is terrible.  you have to move it right or left to align up a spot. press W to go forward, then right the mouse to line up again then w forward.  10 seconds later you might see the rift spot you have to close.

Don't think using a gamepad will solve anyones problems.  I used a pc xbox 360 controller and its just as bad.  Freezing tactial combat and issuing commands takes forever compared with DA2.  I dont understand how this game can get such rave reviews with terribly broken controls.

I simply cant play my new $70 game.  I would rather play DA2 at the moment.

I wish they would bring out a patch option to allow you to play in DA2 style.

Double tens good game? no way in dragon hell.

There are issues with the PC controls, definitely.

But from what you are describing, you simply don't seem to understand the current controls or the new mechanics.

It's a different game engine entirely, so you will never have the exact same controls that you had for DA2.

WASD is probably the worst method to control your character with. Try holding right mouse and W. You get much better control that way. And then bind your basic attack to a comfortable key or use left mouse click.

Yes, the same one.

If you can be bothered to look up screenshots, you'll see that in TW3 the inventory grid from TW1 is back.

In short, it's a proper, click-and-drag, KB+M UI.

Depends on what you're used to. I have no issues with the default "A and D rotate camera, Q and E strafe" layout because it works predictably (and slightly more consistently than if you switch A and D around with Q and E, because of how they're used in tac cam), but I do take offence at the idiotic pausing mechanics and lack of comfortable combat order shortcuts.

To each his own, and all that.

I think it is extremely annoying to devide the mouse curser into two functions.

Now I constantly have to press right mouse to lock the movement. And I often forget doing it, which resluts in a chaotic view and a character that is completely ineffective in battle.

I also have big problems in finding the mouse cursor (the golden arrow). Especially if there's a lot of flickering graphics at the same time.

I want the old style mouse where the view is centered and locked to the mouse. The additional advantage is being able to asign any desired action to my right mouse button.

Every new idea is not the same as things getting better. It's just like the politicians. They have this devastating desire to rearrange everything as soon as they gain power. They usually end up ruining things that has been proven valuable.

It was. KBM was very much their backup. And while the action combat itself was OK a lot of UI elements (lists) were clearly made for the controller. Like I said: the fact a UI is bad on the PC doesn't mean to that the game wasn't designed for the PC.

But TW2 wasn't. That's the point. Was TW2 somehow not PC-led development? That's insane.

Controls like any other typical 3rd person action game. Basically has MMO controls just abit more simpler.

Thanks for this. I wound up getting the game and agree with you: The controls are fine.

As someone who usually plays action games, I find these sorts of complaints strange, especially #2. Why would anyone expect that you would not need to move to an enemy in order to hit him? Of course attacking with no one in front of you will result in slashing the air. I truly don't understand why this is surprising to anyone or how it somehow constitutes bad controls. If the game just did everything for you, how would that be fun?

That's the thing. DA wasn't an action game. I didn't like it at first, because I was used to the action WASD TPS games when I was younger and casual, but then I really liked the tactical combat with the mouse. And DA games where the only ones that had that kind of gameplay. And now it's gone. Replaced with something that is just... painful. If I wanted an action RPG I would play skyrim.

This is the last game I have bought from Bioware and I will spread negative word to all my friends and reviews.

BioWare did not invest any thoughts in PC gaming, they only used their PCs to create a console moneygrinder game.

* 30 FPS lockdown in sequences, trying to make a joke that way ?

* barely usable tacitcal view

* horrible zoom level restrictions

* ridiculous, horrible controls that try to mimic gamepad usage on PC

Whoever are the heads behind these developments, they need to be fired with no return.
It's not even a money question, I am sure they invested more than it's worth for development.
It's a bunch of fools who make decisions.

I can hardly believe the developers are all such fools either, so those bunch of fools who are responsible also failed to listen to their people.

Well I can hardly express how disappointed I am. I will anyway try my best and spread the word.

Fu** with us? we will strike back!

I am having an issue with using multiple monitors, I have two 1080 (HD) monitors side by side, one which I use for everything, the other just to monitor stuff.  The problem is that the mouse is not constrained to the game display, and I am constantly being task switched to the desktop.  This is very annoying, especially during combat.  When my mouse goes off screen and I left click *boom* it switches me to the desktop - the other monitor.

Win8.1 64bit , intel cpu, NVidia gfx

I suppose I can disable the second monitor when I play this, but that is quite clumsy and in my opinion unacceptable, since no other game I have *ever* played has this issue.

Suggestions for the HUD

  • Replace the huge hourglass in the center with 2 more ability slots ;) Put a small hourglass in the bottom left/right of the screen.
  • Allow us to hide general buttons (Search, Attack, Hold, Clear, Disengage etc..), or even better: Give us the option to decide if a slot/button on the quickbar is used for an ability, potion or command. In other words: Make it our quickbar B)
  • Show detailed tooltips when the mouse cursor hovers over an ability :wizard:
  • Give us an option to hide the minimap – While the minimap is certainly useful, there are times I'd rather be exploring while looking at the amazing environments you've created
  • Allow us to select multiple characters by clicking character portraits (hold “Shift” + mouse click e.g.), thanks!

I'm a bit late to the party, recently started playing the game on pc and i have to say omg controls in this game are ****** awful. I really don't know how is it even possible these days to make pc controls that bad.  It has literally THE WORST combat interface for a tactical game in like ten years or something. Its unfinished and it plays like a console port. Click to move? No we don't have that.  Tooltips? Nope. You can do something in tactical mode but you can't do it in normal mode and visa versa. (LIKE ********* CLICK TO ATTACK YOUR TARGET) Wheres auto-attack in normal mode? Wheres queue for abilities? Don't let me even start on brainless tactical camera. Why i can't play this game like DAO or DA2? Where the team that made these games? I''ll tell you more: The guys who made controls for this game also reduced the work of the guys who made combat gameplay for this game to nothing. It's that ****** bad. Someone told me that there were ten patches to fix that problem, i can't even imagine what was it like to play the game at release. It's a bit necro i know but it's still on topic. Game looks great otherwise, everything is beautiful and the scale is massive, but let me tell you something, for me this game will be prime examlpe of the game where one potentialy great aspect of the game was killed by the other one.
