Okay, I'm playing this on a clunky old PC with VERY poor graphics and frame rate, but I'm having a blast and didn't even notice the UI until I stumbled on this forum thread. So I might have a little different take on this than some of you:
1). DAI is harder to play than DA2, no question. No auto-attack, for starters, and much else of what people are pointing out. The game feels awkward at first--especially for the first few fights. BUT, I always thought DA2 combat was a little too hand-holdy (is that a word?) compared to games like Skyrim--or even DA:O. DA2 doesn't seem much like a combat-based game; in fact, you really don't have to do anything in DA2 but click on a target once and everything is taken care of for you, if that's how you want to play the game. Sort of like playing pinball, but without having to use the flippers.
2). DAI is a different game than DA2. When I play a new game, it always takes awhile for the new muscle memory to be built up. That's not cause for anger or panic. Yes, closing the fade rift is hard the first time. That didn't bother me. Nobody is going to be a pro the first day or two after launch. I'm much better at it now.
Didn't Bioware promise us DAI was going to be a harder game than DA2? I think they really meant it! Go ahead and play your first run through on Easy if you want--no shame.
I suspect DAI is largely working as intended (I will grant some imperfections), and I suspect the people who are fine with the changes are mostly playing away, happily. i certainly am.
