Should I install the AMB beta drivers that came out yesterday?  Anyone with similar hardware played without and then with?

If you want to use Mantle, I think you have to.

Without the beta drivers, the game performed pretty badly on my R295x2 (basically 2 of your cards).

I have them installed and I can't even use Mantle.

When I installed them they caused my r9 290x to crash my entire system.

I had 13.12 installed ran no problems (Batman: Arkham City/The Witcher 2) both on ultra settings, upgraded to the latest WHQL, then about 15 minutes in, game hung, buzz came from the speakers and my PC reset itself and showed "recovered from BSoD" message.

Uninstalled completely, reinstalled 13.12, no issues.  Tried latest Beta drivers...15 minutes later....hang, buzz, reset, "BSoD".

So, my advice, try it, by all means, but be prepared.

I have since swapped to a GTX980 and been golden ever since.

Sounds like your driver install got corrupted when you installed the new ones, what did your BSOD errors report as the cause?

I'm not gonna be able to use Mantle with my 6950, but I went ahead and installed the new driver anyway. Game's running pretty well.

I still haven't figured out how to do an AMD driver download that isn't like 250 MB. Does anyone know?

A whole lot of stuff I didn't understand.  I'm not technically illiterate, but this was way beyond my knowledge.  I did copy/paste into Google search and kept getting directed to tomshardware forums.  A number of other people had the same issue and had tried various things with varying degrees of success.  I did do a complete uninstall of every single piece of AMD/Catalyst software and then tried the following things (with a complete uninstall in between each attempt).

Install from Driver CD

Install Catalyst 13.12 (the last stable WHQL that worked for me)

Install Beta 14.9.2

Install from Driver CD

Install Catalyst 13.12 (the last stable WHQL that worked for me)

Install Beta 14.9.2

Uninstall 'Raptr Gaming Evolved"

Install from Driver CD

Install Catalyst 13.12 (the last stable WHQL that worked for me)

Install Beta 14.9.2 without 'Raptr Gaming Evolved"

Install 13.12 (no CD driver)

Install from Driver CD

Install Catalyst 13.12

Install Beta 14.9.2 without 'Raptr' or Catalyst update - just drivers

Gave up

Bought GTX980

Winning

You cannot, for it does not exist.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

On an unrelated note - your status is hilarious.

It wasn't hilarious yesterday. Thankfully the product is under warranty but it was one of those "I hate myself" moments.

Well that sucks (I don't know the reference, sorry). Seriously, reinstalling the entire software everytime is just dumb. But thanks.

Yeah, I probably should have been more sympathetic. I literally downloaded those drivers half a dozen times trying to sort my issues detailed above. Sorry. It just about tipped me over the edge and definitely wasn't funny at the time.

The reference was to the enemy of thedas trailer. Sometimes being on these forums, you forget that not everyone follows absolutely everything.

Hope your rig gets sorted soon.

I also couldn't properly install the new beta drivers without uninstalling the previous drivers.

But once I did that... WOW!  With the beta drivers, inquisition looks fantastic.

edit: uninstalling the old drivers took several tries.  I had to uninstall them, reboot, crash, reboot, clean shutdown, reboot, install new drivers.

That sequence worked.  And the results were arguably worth it.

I bet it does, with your setup.

Yes you should!!

First do a proper uninstall of your old drivers via the control panel, it will ask for a reboot do it.

Then and only then install the new beta drivers.

No, I have way more card than I need at this point.  I'm just 1200.  I should be 1600 in the new year.

Heck, I just have a 290x and everything except tesselation and shadows is at the max. Probably could be for ~45 fps too.

Da I does look very good, but I'm afraid the textures of the clothes still aren't up to snuff, at least in close ups.

I did end up deciding to download the beta drivers.  Did a clean uninstall of the old ones, rebooted, downloaded and installed new drivers.

Playing on Ultra with Mantle enabled, MSAA off and getting 50-60fps, occasional dip to 45 for a few seconds.  Used the cutscene bugfix to unlock it up to 60fps.  Cutscenese sometimes look a little odd but no trouble other than that yet.

Oh, the loading times are wretched, but it gives me enough time loading between zones to check in with my wife, get a drink, use the bathroom ect.
